Jakob Marsee is our everyday CF. I’m not buying that we have a boatload of guys who could replace Stowers. At best, that remains to be seen.

How good is Kyle Stowers? I don't really know. You'd think replacing a power hitting outfielder would be easy, but this is the Marlins.

McAdam adds that the Fish are understandably seeking a package headlined by “elite” prospect(s) in order to part with the remaining three-plus seasons of control on Lopez, who leads the NL in batting and could find himself in consideration for a Gold Glove at shortstop this season. Kevin Barral of Fish On First writes that Miami isn’t actively looking to cash in on Lopez’s breakout but is simply seeing if anyone will make the sort of offer they can’t turn away. The Red Sox apparently aren’t willing to do so.

Miami remains one of the more interesting “on the fence” teams as the deadline approaches, as they might now be shifting back into buyer mode, or perhaps looking to both buy and sell.

For the latter avenue, Ken Rosenthal and Will Sammon of The Athletic write that first baseman/outfielder Kyle Stowers and catcher/first baseman Liam Hicks are being discussed “more actively” in trade scenarios than Otto Lopez or Xavier Edwards. 

The Astros are one of the teams interested in Stowers, the New York Post’s Jon Heyman reports.

All the talk is trading guys away, you wouldn't know we're 3 over .500 and 1.5 out of playoff spot on deadline day. What's the goal for this team? Are we just going to forever stockpile prospects, or will they ever try to win?

And what annoys me is even more is certain fans who have Stockholm Syndrome and support it. Like fish on the farm salivating over the possibility of adding more prospects today. I get their whole thing is minor leaguers, but I guess they never want to actually win. Just endlessly restock the minors.

And I don't want to hear that they lost 12 in a row. It is irrelevant. All that matters is their current place in the standings. We also didn't expect them to have the June they had. It evened out.

This team should be BUYING.

The goal seems to be to collect endless prospects for some moving goalpost future "go for it" year that will never happen, and in the meantime, hope lightning strikes at some point.

I do understand the idea of doing a bit of selling and adding, especially if you're getting a higher than expected value for someone, and I also do understand that the Rays (i.e. Bendix) have had a history of success with selling high/right before a player's decline. Also, the 12-game losing streak doesn't help at all either, but as you point out, they're still very much in the thick of things. Full on selling isn't necessary here.

The endless "when will they do something" attitude we have to take is annoying.....

I don't think either of us are by any means arguing to trade the farm for anyone and everyone either. Just some sort of moves to signal hey, this is going in the right direction....we're going to add pieces rather than endless sell for the "future" and wait some more attitude....

Right. I'm just thinking about it. And basically what we can expect is that whoever they get today (if they sell), will either be traded in 3-4 years before reaching arby or will be DFA'd cause they bust. Endless cycle.

but that needs to be followed up by 2 or 3 trades where we are adding major league talent.

Exactly. That'd be ok with me also. But so far every rumor is about trading guys away, not about adding to the 2026 roster.

Maybe the rumors are wrong, I sure hope so. Though based on history, I'm not very optimistic.

Yup, I don't think I've seen a single rumor of them wanting to acquire someone, there are only rumors of guys going out, even guys we weren't expecting (Stowers).

What do we think our best window to compete is? It isn’t now, that is for sure. Next year? We should get at least one of white and/or snelling in the rotation, and continued development from this emerging core. It would be dumb to trade assets away this season when even with a stopgap 3b, back of the rotation starter or bullpen help the ceiling of the team is still probably lose in the wild card round. What they should be trying to do is looking for teams to overpay with mlb-ready talent for guys where we have some logjams, or where guys’ value is at a high. Hicks, Hernandez, maybe even Stowers and Sandy - if we get great value at positions of need with guys ready to play now or next year that would set us up much better for an actual contender in 2027.

I don't think any of us are saying blow the farm for rentals.

Try to buy something that can help you going forward that's not some far-off prospect that may work out in 5 years.

It's the endless "next year" mentality we're pushing back on, when "next year" never arrives.
