Teacher's Union?
keep buying into it did you know that from a risk analysis we consider union employees less likely to sue - not because they have better benefits, but since everything is collectively bargained their main source of recourse is through the union also - unions are a riskier class and as a neat twist, none of the employees of the union actually are in a union in todays society a couple motivated employees who ask tough questions on their own behalf and get the thought of litigation into a corporation are a lot more powerful than a union that is looking to just preserve their own well being

Beer is my friend.
went to the AZ Brew Guild Strong Beer Fest yesterday - some really good stuff Stone had a pretty high % barleywine which I thought tasted much better than other barleywines i've had Dogfish Head did a special taping at 4pm of one of their IPAs - thing came in at 20% and was incredible if you like hops - so was this other beer that blended 15 types of hops (think it was port hop 15 or something like that) some good local companies as well - really liked the Prescott Brewery and Grand Canyon Brewery - even spent $5 on the grand canyon brewery t-shirt was a great time with some really quality beer (and a couple that stung my tongue)

Teacher's Union?
agreed if i were a teacher the first thing i'd do is contact the district HR and ask them a couple little questions about their insurance coverage - the first is if the district indemnifies you in case of loss - if so, what kind of coverage do they carry against failure to educate and general misconduct (specifically sexual misconduct) this could be a little scary for them to hear - but it's important for you to know - if they have coverage then the main selling points of a union (standing by you if the district gets pressures if you get allegations) go by the wayside also, you never know what kids will dream up or what their motivations are - should be protected - you said little billy had poor work, and now he has mental anguish and doesn't want to come to school - i'm going to sue

Official 2007-2008 NBA Trading Deadline Discussion
the overwhelming reaction out here is that it's a bad deal for the suns marion has burned a ton of bridges the past couple of years and is as prima donna as they come - people were ready to see him and his huge contract go, but with rumors of okafor and dalembert floating the shaq move seemed like a let down most feel he's done - there are some people who feel this can put them over the top by giving a big body that can get rebounds, clog the post, pass and start the break with outlet feeds the thoughts are that with shaq you don't have any big man in the west have a career night against you, you don't have robert horry throwing body checks and you have title experience in the locker room i think those are pretty good points - i fall in the camp that doesn't think it's a good move because I don't think he has much left in him - i think the years of playing have wore his body down

National Signing Day
i really like the recruits at WR and LB a little concerned about OL - but I think this is definitely a step in the right direction hopefully the canes show enough improvement next year that shannon can build a nice class next year as well and really get momentum going again

Reds in Goodyear?
the reds really wouldn't have to do too much financially - here is a link to the initial agreement between goodyear and the indians http://www.ci.goodyear.az.us/Archive.asp?ADID=931 i've highlighted some points: Elements of the project are anticipated to include six full practice baseball fields, two half practice baseball fields per team, an agility field, one major league clubhouse per team (and those related facilities and equipment), a ballpark with seating capacity of 10,000 persons (8,000 seats and 2,000 berm), equipment facilities, and public parking. AZSTA financing anticipated for up to two-thirds the cost of the Spring Training Facility and AZSTA funds will reimburse or pay the debt service on City bridge financing. City will provide permanent funding in the amount of $10 million from the sale of City general obligation bonds. Rose Properties will convey all land for the project site (as defined in the second MOU). Team will pay all costs of furnishing and equipping its clubhouse, the pitching machines, and medical and personal training equipment. Team has 20-year term with the option of two five-year extensions. Team will pay a rental use fee of $100,000 per year, adjusted by inflation Payment Splits Ticket Sales ? City 20%, Indians 80% Other Spring Training Revenues (ie: concessions, parking) ? City 50%, Indians 50% Advertising ? City 50%, Indians 50% Broadcast rights ? Indians 100% Ticket surcharge ? City 100% Naming Rights ? City 100% In the event that the one-team facility is initially constructed, a provision is included that stipulates Rose Properties would reserve the land necessary for expansion to a two-team facility for not less than a one-year period in the event the City is successful in its endeavor to secure a second team.

Reds in Goodyear?
the goodyear stadium is being built regardless for the Indians the indians are scheduled to open it in 2009 (next years spring training) if the reds do sign on the park wouldn't be ready for a 2nd team until 2010 (forgot to mention this part earlier) the $35M wouldn't be coming from the reds organization - it would be a combination of the state of arizona's tourism and sports fund along with local city bonds and maybe even some maricopa county $$

Reds in Goodyear?
One week after authorities in Sarasota, Fla., balked at upgrading their spring training facility, the Cincinnati Reds agreed Monday night to an exclusive, 75-day negotiation window with the city of Goodyear, Ariz. The Reds' lease in Sarasota expires later this year, but the club can stay for three more years by exercising one-year options. Work has already begun in Goodyear on a stadium and practice facility for the Indians, who will move there next year from Winter Haven, Fla. Authorities in Goodyear have been looking for another team to share the 8,500-seat stadium. Nine major league teams already train in the Phoenix area, with three more in Tucson, Ariz. http://www.azcentral.com/sports/diamondbac...dsgoodyear.html that was the AP write up and not really the best one i've seen - but the best I could easily find online...... the stadium is going to be closer to 10,000 seats - goodyear is also not allowed to speak with any other teams during the 75 day window funding is going to be an issue - about $75M has been pledged to build the stadium for the indians - they anticipate another $35M to add a 2nd team (building additional practice facilities, offices, etc) the sports & tourism authority has stated that they do not want to give any more $$$ - however, they were also upset that goodyear didn't have two teams at the gate which led to goodyear getting less money than they had originally hoped for with such a strong midwestern presence that is growing every day out here I can really see this move happening - at a personal & selfish level i'd like to see it as the stadium is very close to where I live and it will have a very positive economic impact for my city and help springboard more development in the "ballpark village" i think goodyear and the reds can work out their differences - main issue will be with goodyear and the state and putting together a reasonable economic plan

Jerramy Stevens
Just because I know there are some Buc fans in here - this guy is a complete POS http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/loca...stevens270.html Nine hours later, around noon, a 19-year-old freshman woke up at the Pi Beta Phi sorority. She had a headache, stomach pain, sore ribs, scratched legs. She could barely move. Her bra and tube top were around her waist and covered in dirt. Her underwear was missing. "What happened to me?" she asked her roommate. About the same time, Jerramy Stevens emerged from his room. He lived with several teammates in a house north of campus. He pulled a pair of women's underpants out of his jeans pocket and, according to a police report, told a roommate, "Look what I have." In the spring of 1998, when he was a senior in high school, Stevens showed up at a prearranged fight in a park. There, his friend hit a 17-year-old, James Hoover, in the head with a baseball bat. After Hoover collapsed ? unconscious ? Stevens jumped up and stomped on his face. judge let him await trial at home, wearing an electronic-monitoring device. Stevens soon tested positive for marijuana, violating the terms of his home confinement. As a result, he spent three weeks in the Thurston County jail. As Preston slowed, a red Toyota pickup barreled up from behind and tried to swing around him. The truck sideswiped Preston's Dodge Daytona ? smashing in the driver's side ? before careening into the retaining wall, damaging its front end. The pickup's driver had been "driving like a maniac," one witness would say later, using the HOV lane as a passing lane. The pickup's driver was Jerramy Stevens. Stevens slammed the red Toyota pickup into the side of a retirement home, knocking a dresser onto a bed where a 92-year-old woman was sleeping. His truck was stuck, so he used his school textbooks for traction, putting them under the tires. Then he drove off ? but not before a 72-year-old man took down his license plate. A month after Stevens got his Range Rover, a trooper ticketed him for going 98 mph. Three months later a trooper pulled Stevens over after he veered into oncoming traffic. Stevens, who had alcohol on his breath, blew a 0.051 ? below the legal limit of 0.08. He was cited for negligent driving and paid a $490 fine. a Medina police officer pulled Stevens over. Two open champagne bottles were in Stevens' SUV. Have you been drinking? the officer asked. No, Stevens said. On field-sobriety tests, Stevens couldn't walk a straight line or keep his balance. His blood-alcohol level was about twice the legal limit. He eventually admitted drinking the champagne and said he'd run a stop sign because he was preoccupied, talking on his cellphone. Stevens pleaded guilty to reckless driving. Eleven days after he became a free agent, Stevens was stopped just after 2 a.m. by a police officer in Scottsdale, Ariz. Stevens' car had drifted over the lane marker three times. Stevens, alone, was not wearing a seat belt. His eyes were bloodshot and his speech slurred. He told the officer he'd had "a little" to drink. "Four or five margaritas." Getting out of the car, Stevens dropped his cellphone and wallet. Asked to do a walk-and-turn sobriety test, he stumbled and nearly fell. His blood-alcohol level registered at 0.204 percent, 2 ? times the legal limit. I hope he doesn't continue this streak down there in FL - but it's hard to imagine him changing spots now in seattle we started to refer to him as

Hardcore metal shows
i've gone to a fair amount of uptempo shows - not a bad bet to stay on the sides at first - i would probably avoid the balcony - if your girl is into this type of stuff it'll probably be boring to her pending on who is playing I'll usually stay on the fringe of the pit - occasionally getting swept in, but having control over when I want to engage - just keep your eyes open - things move pretty fast i am a fellow tall scandivanian looking guy with a clean cut demeanor - never had a problem blending in though - just get into the show - i've had a great time with all sorts of scary looking people just make sure you don't have the d'bags who like to go in there throwing punches

Spring Training!
the arizona sports & tourism authority keeps the money flowing and there are enough emerging communities that want a ball park village to drive commerce in their cities not to mention the population growth of the area (driven mainly by regions that have a strong MLB presence) and that the longest any team would have to travel is 2 hrs down to tucson, with most games being a 30 minute shuttle around town AZ is being very aggressive and FL will have to determine how important ST is to their own tourism and development it definitely sucks for residents in FL - however selfishly I live about 1.5 miles from where the goodyear stadium is being built - would love to be able to walk to the stadium and have a few beers with games on pretty much everyday

Spring Training!
the reds are taking advantage of their time in town to visit goodyear today and meet with city officials, tour the town and look at the specs for the new ST facility that is being built this is very preliminary - but goodyear is looking for a 2nd team and the reds initiated the visit

PETA goes too far
i actual do not have a problem with this one it's pretty mild compared to most of their stuff and if people control the pet population a little more than maybe the PETA shelters wouldn't have to kill so many of them

NFL Playoffs Discussion
disapointing game - seattle's defense can't do much of anything size beats speed in this muck rough way to end the year but what can you do - weather like this is part of football congrats to the pack - the hawks just need to remember this while playing next year and close out teams so they can be playing in their building (although next years schedule is brutal............)
