St. Louis Rams
Linehan for sure now Continuing the runaway trend toward hiring first-time head coaches, the St. Louis Rams have chosen Miami Dolphins offensive coordinator Scott Linehan as the successor to the deposed Mike Martz and Wednesday night entered into contract discussions with him. Barring a hangup in negotiations, which is not likely, Linehan will be introduced as the Rams' head coach by the end of the week. Team and league sources as well as a source close to Linehan confirmed to ESPN.com that the Dolphins assistant had been offered the job. Scott Linehan Al Messerschmidt/WireImage.com The Dolphins' offense ranked seventh in the AFC under Scott Linehan this past season. The choice of Linehan came Wednesday evening after St. Louis officials concluded the last interview with the three finalists, a meeting with highly regarded Chicago Bears defensive coordinator Ron Rivera. All three finalists -- Linehan, Rivera and San Diego Chargers offensive coordinator Cam Cameron -- had traveled to Los Angeles this week for the follow-up interviews. It is believed the decision came down to Linehan over Cameron, as Rams officials had come to believe in the last few days that a coach with an offensive background would best fit their team. Rivera met last week with the Rams and, while he was said to have been impressive, he was not as detailed as the others in his ideas for staffing. The consensus around the NFL earlier Wednesday was that Linehan and Cameron were very close in the running as the Rams continued to deliberate the strengths and weaknesses of all the candidates. During an informal brainstorming session among team officials last week, Linehan rated as the most impressive candidate. Despite reports that Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Al Saunders might be a late entry into the St. Louis coaching derby, Rams sources said he was not interviewed. In all, the Rams interviewed seven candidates. The only candidate with previous head coaching experience was Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Jim Fassel, the onetime head coach of the New York Giants. Linehan, 42, has only been in the NFL four seasons, serving as offensive coordinator of the Minnesota Vikings (2002-04) and then the Dolphins (2005). He is regarded as a bright and creative offensive mind, a coach who favors the power running game linked to a vertical passing attack. Before joining the Minnesota staff, Linehan had a 14-year career in the college ranks. The Rams will become the sixth team to hire a first-time head coach rather than one with prior experience. Of the seven teams that have chosen new coaches in the past week -- including the Detroit Lions, who will introduce former Tampa Bay defensive line aide Rod Marinelli as their new coach on Thursday -- only the Chiefs' Herman Edwards had previously been an NFL head coach. Wade 2nd triple double of season
Wade got his second triple double of the season against the Sonics. They actually won this time. He seems to get these triple doubles when he has a crappy shooting night. Go figure.

Goose Gossage rips HOF voters
When I think of cal ripken, I see ryne sandberg. They were both players who brought offense to defensive positions. The only differnce is ripken's 3000 hits and consective games record, but ripken is seen as a sure fire hall of famer while ryne sandberg is thought as a weak hall of famer. I think the main attribute that should be considered when choosing hall of famers is whether they were the best at their position or at least top tier for an extended period of time. Ryne Sandberg and Cal Ripken were the best 2b and ss of the 1980's and thus should be locks for first ballot hall of famers.

Marlins WS Trivia
I think pedro and greg maddux can also be looked at as the greatest of our generation. They had ten year or so runs where they were better pitchers then clemens ever was but clemens had a twenty year period where he was a top ten pitcher. Its the same argument for nolan ryan. Does being the greatest pitcher of a generation require that the pitcher be great for a long period of time or amazing for a short period.

Tennessee at Florida
Caldwell is out for the season with a broken leg courtesy of the Herald Our sec schedule looks like this (5) Tennessee W 16-7 at Kentucky 3:30 pm at Alabama 3:30 pm Mississippi State TBA at (3) LSU 3:30 pm (7) Georgia 3:30 pm Vanderbilt TBA at South Carolina TBA LSU, Georgia and Alabama are our make or break games. If we lose only one then we will probably go to the championship game. And south carolina is going to be a close game eventhough they are not very good. They will definately be ready to play florida.

The Marlins are "clutch"
Thats a cool site. Another article from the same day had a stat that says Alex Gonzalez is the worst player in the majors in getting into pitchers count from 2000 to 2004. Thats not all that suprising since he swings at everything.

Carlos Silva and all those walks
I just noticed but did you guys see that carlos silva has only given up 8 walks in 173 innings. He only has 66 strikeouts but 8 walks is impresive. Our friend Al Leiter, in comparison, has a modest 92 walks in 128 innings. His BAA is .288 which is pretty high but he keeps his era low (3.26) by keeping those walks down. There are two things that drive me crazy: walks by a pitcher and strikeouts by a hitter, so I think I have a new favortie none marlin pitcher.

Josh Becket
He still is 12-8, has a sub 4 era, and a BAA of .233. You can't compare his season to burnett's and willis's since they are both have unbelievable seasons. Beckett is having the season that a good picther should have and is still probably a top 20 picther and must teams wouldnt mind having him as an ace. Yesterday seemed to me like he was tired which brings up beckett's biggest flaw. Since he is either injured or he tires late in games, he doesnt eat up innings for his team. An ace of a staff needs to eat innings but other than that hes all gravy.

United Nations Bankrolled Latest Anti-Israel Propa
Its not a dislike of Israel, its a dislike of the government and there actions dealing with its own people. They use inhumane techniques to try to subdue terrorists by oppressing a ethnic group. Its similar to our treatment of the Japanese Americans during WW2 but that was only a few years not a few decades.

Let's Talk about Religion
I went to catholic school from K-12th grade and now I am an atheist. Its not that catholicism is bad it just that you learn everything about the religion and then you come to an age when you just sit there and say I dont believe most of what they say. If I still believed in God and Jesus, I would be a catholic but I wouldn't hold the decrees of the vatican as absolute. The pope is still one of the holiest men in all the world but the idea that he is infallible is simply illogical. The church needs to go back and look at all of the changes made by prior popes and see which ones actually are for the better of the people practicing them. I think religion can be beneficial to a society in teaching morals but I just dont like the idea of people being absolute in their notion that they are right and someone else is wrong. I think in terms of religion people should have there beliefs and talk about them but they shouldnt feel that their religion is better than another and that it is there job to convert the world.

Heat Offseason Thread
jason williams > damon jones (damon shoots better threes but jwill is a better pure pg) antoine walker > eddie jones offensively eddie jones >> antoine walker defensinely james posey > rasual bulter ( butler was a big bust I feel he just wasnt consistent) qyntel woods expendable since dorell wright is similar type player Antoine Walker just needs to not shot so many threes and we will be fine

Marlins vs Cardinals---8:10et---at Busch Stadium
This will be the game to see whether those 3 starts before the last one for dtrain were a fluke. If he pitches a stellar game tonight I think he will build on that confidence boost for the rest of the year.

Gary Roberts will be on QAM within the hour...
After the strike I thought I would have no interest in hockey, especially since I hadnt been keeping up with it in prior years, but the best thing they did was practically force all the big teams to waive or not resign all of their high priced players. So now every team will have a new look and they will all have some all star quality players. So now instead of going in knowing detroit or colorado are going to win the stanley cup, any team has a chance to suprise. Im actually excited not just for the panthers but for what other teams make a huge turnaround this year.

If you need a car...
I heard this commercial in atlanta, i think, and instead of saying maroone they said courtesy. I was like what the hell, its supposed to be maroone not courtesy. I guess maroone owns a dealership up there but the song is so bad, especially since courtesy doesnt really fit that well.

UM and UF to renew rivalry
I would love to miami and florida to play every year. But as a Florida fan there is no way we will ever win the national championship again if we have to play florida state, tenn, georgia, and miami every year. You can put at least two losses on the board just from those four games and two losses will not win you a national championship.

The Bullpen sure pumped me up tonight
Us marlins fans have been blessed with extremly effective closers since 1993. Teams seem to always be locking for closers buy we seem to be able to put almost anyone in there and have them have a good year
