1. if we lose the 1st game and take the next two games every time i would take that 876097 Same here. Winning 2 out of every 3 would be huge. Doesn't matter what order we win the games in.
2. This is what I don't understand. You can be lyric driven, and still have all these other things. You can hear the lyrics in all those old bands' songs. You can't sit and tell me you don't understand what's being said in The Unforgiven.....and that song combines great lyrics with some cool acoustic guitar, a nice guitar solo, some good drum work, and the usual pretty bass line. The songs that have memorable parts - whether it be an amazing bass line, a ridiculous drum fill, a killer riff, a solo beyond belief, or flat out amazing lyrics - will have parts of the others as well. You remember Who Are You for the catchy rhythm and cool lyrics, but right in the middle of it is some crazy bass. You remember Time because of the lyrics, but you jam to the guitar solo when it comes out everytime. Come As You Are has one of my favorite bass lines, but the lyrics are also very good. And this isn't even getting into the greater than great songs like Stairway to Heaven, Comfortably Numb, and Hotel California, that show up on not only on every Top Ten song list, but also on every Top Ten lyric list and every Top Ten guitar solo list. To say they are lyric-driven is fine, but to ignore all the other aspects of the music is a cop out for not having good enough pieces to be able to execute. The only bands that can pull them off anymore with any semblance of consistency are hangovers from previous days in music history, or bands that have been reformed and combined versions of old bands. 875363 Oh, I agree that there are many very good songs that are lyric-driven and also excellent in other aspects. That being said, look at what you've listed, these are regarded as some of the best rock songs ever. 99.99% of all bands don't really have a "Stairway to Heaven" in them, if you know what I mean. As a songwriter (I really should say lyric writer) I can't imagine putting together something in the same galaxy of those songs. And I'm okay with that. Part of what I was getting at is that I frequently have to defend my taste in music to people who like jambands, which are pretty much the antithesis of what I write and listen to. But anyway, look at the vast majority of music that's out there now--and I'm sure it's the same way in any period of time, it's just that the good stuff is what lasted through to today--and it's all "flawed" in comparison. I just get frustrated when people take shots at emo, screamo, pop-punk, and the like exclusively. I'm not really referring to your post at this point, I guess it's more just the general sentiment expressed in this thread. And in terms of the way people look and the music they listen to: to an extent, fans of any type of music are going to have a stereotypical sort of look to them. The music, the clothes, hairstyles and so on are all reflections of the tastes and preferences of a single person, and most of the time, if someone likes a certain type of music, their appearance will in some way reflect that. On the whole, if someone took a look at me they'd probably be able to guess what I was into...as one of my friends described it, I give off a "west coast" vibe. Again, to pigeonhole a certain group as being the only people who can be stereotyped like that is a bit foolish. That'll probably be the best defense anyone can give you...as I am the oldest emo/pop-punk fan you will find, at 20. :mischief
3. Per NESN he was conscious and alert as he was leaving the field on the stretcher and has been taken to the hospital. No word on further updates to his condition. Good to hear he's somewhat okay...
4. Subject says it all...Crawford ripped a liner right up the middle and it hit Clement in the head. I hope he'll be alright.
5. I agree there is something about bump that makes people just love/hate for him. I think he is a good kid and will become a good reliever someday. 875344 On the whole he's been pretty decent even this season, it's great to see a guy who you can bring in with runners on and feel confident he can get a DP out of it. It's a shame but hopefully AA can give the bullpen a boost.
6. Is the Marlins' thought process now, hang on and see what happens before making a move? Gammons: If a team could offer a package of a pitcher who's 75-80% of AJ, a reliever, and someone who could help them in the future, they would probably make the deal. But barring that, they are still in the race. They are not in f******e mode. -Bad blood between the ownership of the Marlins and Red Sox hindering talks on any Burnett deal there. -White Sox still in the conversation, but it's unknown if they'd be willing to give up a package of Marte, McCarthy, Anderson when AJ probably would still go to free agency. 875075 has "firesale" been added to the list of cursewords by this site? or was that just the submitter's joke? either way, great stuff. i do think the Marlins would have to take that deal if it was offered to them, but i doubt it will be. AJ has not done anything to deserve that high of a price, unless he's willing to sign. 875150 Someone made a post where they used it as a curse and I thought it was funny and decided to run with it.
7. He picked AJ as the biggest name that has a chance of moving on Sunday, but even then he said earlier that he's not sure about that so in other words, doesn't expect blockbusters at the deadline.

Sweet, now we're even ahead of some of these teams in the loss column. Time to go streaking, everyone.
10. I liken Emo to the Abercrombie crowd. Shell necklaces are worn because they like people to think they're surfers. Spiked hair to make people think they're badasses. The music is terrible. It's really whiny, but the main problem is the lack of musical talent. There are no guitar solos, no drum solos, no sick bass lines. I don't understand. Junior high kids could play the stuff, and their voices are still high enough where they could whine with it too. 874764 It's lyric-driven. Granted, that makes it easy to play as well, but speaking from having been in a band, for most emo songs you want the vocals to be the most prominent part of the song. Since like, 99% of all emo songs are about failed relationships (mine included) part of the idea is...if you're gonna be talking about how someone screwed you over, make sure they can hear what you're saying. :whistle
11. Am I crazy or is JP stealing a ton of bases lately? It seems like every time he gets on base, he's taking off. So I don't think we've gotten away from small ball entirely. edit: He is tied with Podsednik for most steals this month with 13, per ESPN.com stats page.
12. I think the reports are that he is going to go to the pen, so I'd imagine that's where he'll end up. It's really hard to gauge how good he'll end up being. He's looked horrible in the majors because he wasn't ready yet--who's to say he may not end up being a good reliever?
13. I love "emo". And not because it's "cool", but because I like the music...a lot. But you're right. Most people have made it seem like its cool to listen to it and dressing "emo" is cool. f*** that, I like the music a lot but I dont go around dressing a certain way. And I dont appreciate it when people generalize everyone who listens to it. 874363 :notworthy Hey MikeyFan have you ever heard of The Academy Is...? I've seen them in concert a couple times and they've become one of my favorite bands.
14. Wow, those are some excellent pictures. SBC looks like such a nice place to watch a game.
15. Bring back the arepa carts! I don't know if anyone remembers back this far but a big part of my personal stadium routine during the '97 season was to grab an arepa from one of the carts near our seats up in the 400 level (section 450, I believe). They always seemed like they did pretty good business and it's one of those things that I doubt too many other stadiums had. I think they got the axe in the '98 f******e and haven't been back since, though I could be mistaken. I know for a fact I've not had an arepa at the stadium since '97.
16. And every media guy on tv tonight will begin their broadcast by referring to the "last place Florida Marlins". 873423 it's true though, we are the dawgs 873427 I think that's right where we want it, as far as making a run. No one respects us, man...no one respects us. :plain
17. Vargas vs Duke would be more interesting.... Oh well. Keep the bats hot this series & we'll be fine. 873803 So is Vargas officially in the bullpen i suppose with the move of Valdez back into the rotation and the demotion of Olsen back Carolina??? why would they waste this kid in the pen, unless they are going to send him down on Tuesday when they activate AA??? 873815 I think that's exactly what they're going to do.
18. We just need to take care of business against the Pirates and not worry about the Nats-Braves. Two wins minimum are a must against the Pirates. Nothing against them, they give us trouble, but to truly stay in the race we need to start winning games at home. Especially against teams we should beat. 873787 Yup...it doesn't matter who wins, as long as we do. That means that we'll be picking up ground on somebody.

This is me at broomball on my 20th birthday...I've had much to drink.
20. Some baseball game i have lists the marlins rivals as the cubs, the devil rays, and the braves. that sounds pretty good to me 872895 Yeah, that's what it says in MVP. I'd probably put the Phils ahead of either the Cubs or D-Rays but that's just me. Seems like there's a lot of bad blood between us after 2003, the benches clearing at the beginning of last year, etc.
21. On the BBTN that is airing right now, for some reason Steve Phillips insisted that we had to do the Orioles deal because it was the only one that included a closer-type reliever in Julio. Um...Steve? We've got a good closer already. His name is Todd Jones. The Orioles package is by far the worst of the potential AJ deals available. I see why the Mets fired him. Oh yeah, and I'm definitely an Arroyo fan. He'd do well in the big park and to boot, he'd be playing close to his hometown. This would be a pretty nice trade.
22. Ponson is scheduled to start tonight for Baltimore. 871888 He's pitching right now.
23. Even though the trade between the Orioles and Padres has been agreed to, Phil Nevin has yet to waive his no-trade clause to allow the trade to go through and is in the starting lineup and playing for the Padres in today's game. Thoughts?
