1. 2006 rotation Beckett Willis Olsen Veteran Vargas 871631 No Moehler? I think he's good enough to bring back next year. 871692 Depends how much he wants, but that sounds like a plan from the Marlins' point of view. He's been extremely impressive.
2. he is mic'd up... dude is funny as hell 871833 Wish I had it...we've got Mets-Dodgers up here.
3. If you think about it, this trade isn't even that smart for the Orioles unles they somehow add starting pitching. Pitching is what is keeping Baltimore out of the playoffs and for how awful Ponson is, they still could have used him perhaps. 871653 Ponson had Leiter numbers for the Orioles (6-7, 6.04). I think in their eyes it was a case of addition by subtraction.
4. I had read somewhere that if they get Nevin, Lowell is out of the question. That would give them way too many corner infielders. Also watching ESPNNEWS the anchor just basically said the same thing. . . "Looks like any deal involving Mike Lowell to the Orioles is dead" 871642 Yeah...regardless of the money situation the Orioles don't need both Nevin and Lowell. The deal as reported is finished. :arms Now if you insist on trading AJ, make it a good deal.
5. He (Burnett) is believed to be seeking a four-year deal worth at least $8 million a year. :banghead 871535 I have to believe that is a load of crap. If he's willing to accept that deal, he either has told the FO he'll never resign with FL or we don't trust his health or mind to turn into an All Star quality pitcher in the long run. Resigning AJ for $8 million a year for four years is pretty damn cheap, IMO. 871605 Agreed, that's not very much money at all.
6. Sounds like the media has multiple personalities today.
7. More than he's got in real life this season lol And Willingham is my starting 1B right now because Delgado and Stokes both had minor injuries(Delgado got hurt, I called up Stokes, his first game, he gets injured, it is frustrating). Willingham is a beast behind the plate tho and I dont get it, I have nailed 14 for 14 base stealing attempts with him. EA has his defensive parameters set way too high. And he has more at bats now, now he is hitting .125 869777 That's about what Willy hit for me in his brief stint with the big club. Beckett is really struggling for me. He's 6-7 with an ERA in the 4's and has given up like 25 homers this year. AJ has been pretty dominant and Dontrelle has pitched really well recently, kind of the reverse of the actual season. Besides that, a lot of the players are pretty close to their season stats, namely Cabs, Carlos, and Enc.
8. Ah, that sucks, dude. This is coming from someone who once convinced his friends to drive him about 800 miles (from Durham to Boston) on a couple days' notice so that his girlfriend could break up with him. So I know the pain.
9. im not worried or surprise, he hasent ever had a good or decent second half, he is just tired already thanks to jack. 871358 Eh, I don't really know how much Jack has to do with it. But yes, this is definitely alarming.
10. We aren't trying to get Ponson, try to pay attention. :confused 870498 Sorry, my bad.
11. Weak. I can't believe our FO is actually going for this stuff. Ponson? Please.
12. How old are you? 30 (and wow...that seems really freaking old) Married, children? yes, yes Job?probably something in the pharmaceutical realm City? Boston House? Given the city, I know one thing...it's going to be really expensive. Free time/hobbies? Well, I'll be too old for concerts. (Saw an awesome show last night, if anyone has heard of The Academy Is...) Going to Sox games, playing guitar.
13. i would say yes for the mere fact that it ruffles things up... it can change the way the game is managed for example if u have a 'lefty specialist' in the pen and they have a lefty coming up to bat, lets say....Cliff Floyd, and then he is pinch hit for just so he doesn't face a lefty...then they bring in a right handed pitcher to face the other guy...thus the lefty specialist changes the face of the game, without throwing a pitch cause now they have a big bat out of their line up 870258 Interesting example because if I remember, when Cliff was with the Marlins he hit better against lefties...I vaguely remember T-Hut talking about how the lefty switch played right into our hands. Also, you don't often see a centerpiece of the lineup taken out because of bringing in the specialist either. How many times have we taken Carlos out of the game entirely because a lefty came in to face him? It's more something to force a team to waste a pinch hitter, which can't necessarily be neglected, because if the game goes to extras that looks pretty huge.
14. I agreed with Gene when I saw it...say what you want but this game is not a "must win" in and of itself. Now, it is part of a stretch of games which are crucial if this team is going anywhere this year, but it's not like if we lose tonight everyone should pack up and go home.
15. I would rather have a platoon of Andido and Wilson over Furcal...I'd actually rather have that platoon over Renteria as well(living in the St. Louis area, Renteria was shoved down our throats, the most basic play was "OH MY NO OTHER SS COULD DO THAT!" on WB11 or Fox Sporsnet. It was horrible. They do it with Rolen too. 870158 Eh...I don't know about that. Haven't seen either Andino or Wilson play, but Edgar is a good player. His defense has been a little sketchy in Boston but still...you'd rather have a platoon of two minor leaguers?
16. The real #1 basketball team ain't in Illinois ; ) 870148 You said it, dude. :thumbup
17. a) If you've got a true lefty specialist, it's a good thing for your team. But no, they're not "really needed." b) We're fine with Mecir against lefties. I wouldn't go nuts trying to find a lefty out of the pen.
18. We're definitely in a really good position to make a move. The Nats will be the wild-card leaders and sliding, while we're currently tied in the loss column with the remaining top teams in the race. It's sitting right there for us even as bad as we've played most of the season, the team just needs to play up to its talent and we've got it.
19. I'm saying this half in jest, maybe he should give up being a power pitcher and learn to throw a knuckleball. Knuckeballer's who are any good usually have long and successful careers. 868828 OK here's kind of a stupid question, but it's something I've thought about for awhile. Why is it that power pitchers never learn knuckleballs? Could you imagine, say, Josh with a 96 mph fastball, sick curve, and then maybe 3-4 times a game float in a knuckleball to completely throw off the hitters' timing? Just curious.
20. ive gotten the non MB WP on my dev art.. linked in my sig or the 1st post! 868969 Thanks...I like the MB one but because I have the ESPN Bottomline, the MB logo is mostly covered, so the plain one looks better on my computer.
21. Olsen is headed south and Vargas will follow shortly 868909 Is this perhaps a nod to the fact that we're no longer sold on trading AJ? :mischief2
22. Think about it...the Fish got a 7-man rotation...not that they'll use 7-men in a row but we have a deep rotation with 4 of them that are fully capable of joining the pen for added depth...man our pitching staff is looking good right now... 868816 Lets not forget that we just released a starting pitcher, and should AJ be traded for all likelihood we will get one back still leaving us at 7. I think that unpopular as it would be amongst us, Vargas has to go down and spend some more time in the minors, don't think staying to spend time in the bullpen is going to help him, he needs to start and rack up some innings, the best way is in Carlolina. BTW why do we have a AAA ballclub?? Just find it amusin that we dont let any of our top prospects play there. 868838 I don't think we're alone in having top young prospects play in AA. That seems to be a fairly common practice.
23. I also still think that Conine is Mr. Marlin because his story seems to be intertwined so much with the history of the franchise itself. Between the 4-4 on Opening Day '93, the All-Star MVP, being a part of the World Series team in '97, then coming back six years later to spark the second championship team, it's all pretty amazing. But yeah if it wasn't Jeff, then I agree with you 100% on Castillo.
24. Mays has a $.5 million buyout for 06, so we wouldn't have to pay him the $8.5 million he's do next year. If we do make this deal, I think we'll be going after a bat. Maybe Griffey? Mays/Vargas/Johnson/Stokes for Griffey and the Reds paying half of his remaining deal? :mischief2 1. Pierre 2. Castillo 3. Delgado 4. Cabrera (3B) 5. Griffey (RF) 6. Enc (LF) 7. Lo Duca 8. Gonzo 1. Willis 2. Beckett 3. Arroyo 4. Moehler 5. Olsen/Valdez *ducks* 868791 Where does this Griffey stuff come from? Did someone in the FO say we were looking at him or something? I'm confused.
