1. And I apologize to everyone for that horrible hair...it has been buzzed off since... 850510 Hey man that's kinda what my hair is like...it's not "horrible." Well, at least it does go over better than when I had the full-on mohawk a couple years back. :whistle
2. In Spooney's case...it's hard for someone to be one of our biggest problems this season when he hasn't pitched in 2 years. We've got more to worry about.
3. I remember there being a Cold Stone on Nob Hill in Plantation for you West Broward folks. It's in the plaza with Starbucks and Blockbuster.
4. They should just use Nate Bump in Beckett's spot until he returns. I know Bump is not everyone's favorite, but at least the team might feel it has a shot, instead of the impending doom they must feel when Al takes the mound. Just make Leiter the mopup guy for when we have 20 run leads. Or when we're already down by 7 runs in the 8th inning and don't want to waste any more relievers. I feel for Leiter, I really do. The guy has been a star in this game. But the coaches and front office have got to be able to see some signs that he might improve to justify keeping him in the rotation or even in meaningful bullpen duty. And from what I've seen, there's been no sign of improvement. 850167 I agree totally...we haven't seen Bump get a spot start this year and look at what Leiter's been doing...he can't really be worse.
5. I always go hahaha or hehehe, no real reason why I change it, but hehehe is more representative of my actual laugh.
6. Mikey was terrible pretty much every day in a key spot in the lineup. I might have given it to JP if this was like, 3 weeks ago but he's starting to come around.
7. Goin with the D-Train...
8. ...When you watch every game that isn't televised in Michigan on MLB GameDay and still feel like you are there. 848770 Ditto for Rhode Island. And I'll add this one...when you watch real games and talk like Gameday because of how much you've used it to follow the Marlins. I don't know how many times I've been watching a Sox game and said following a single, "In play, no out recorded." (Or when you're at a AAA game and when the pitching coach came out to talk to Schilling in the second inning, you say, loudly, "Coaching visit to mound?")
9. good point with the Sox...but they did get rid of Nomar and add in Orlando Cabrera...meaning they did SOMETHING...the Marlins FO needs to SOMETHING more than bringing up minor leaguers...and they need to do it soon... 849186 Yeah, I mentioned trading Nomar and said that trading Lowell would probably be the equivalent, in that people didn't think the Sox got "even value" on that trade and any Lowell trade would likely be similar in that respect.
10. And what happens if we come out of the gates after the ASB, and rattle off 6 wins in a row? What then? Then this will be the best team to ever don a uniform and no one will remember anything they said today or yesterday, because they're too caught up in the elation of winning. This board needs to find an even keel. It oscillates so much from one extreme to the other; this site is either "pit of despair", or "glory glory hallelujah". It's hard sometimes in this day and age of immediate satisfaction, where if we're hungry we can eat fast food, or if we want to speak to someone we can use a cell phone. Baseball is not football; it's not a visceral sport of adrenaline and excitment. It's slow paced and the excitement builds through the drama that comes from watching the entire strtegy-filled nine innings. In the same way, the season's excitement builds as the drama ebbs and flows over the course 162 games. Baseball is not a game of instant gratification, you cannot know now what will be tomorrow. It's a game of long run statistics, where you need to be patient. Every game cannot be the "be all" or "end all" of existence. Is this team underperforming? Yes. Can this team win with its current components? I think so. Will it play better with some roster tweaking? Probably. Part of being a baseball fan is sitting back and watching as the drama unfolds. What makes the 9th inning come from behind victory so exciting is watching the first 8 innings, because no matter what happens, you have those three outs waiting for you at the end. To truly savor that victory, you had to have watched the whole game and experienced what had previously led up to it. It's the same way with a season. It's a long season. Be patient, sit back, take your lumps when you get them (and you will get them - every teams does), enjoy your wins when you get those (but not too much), because all of it adds to the drama at the end. 848968 Great post. Here's something to illustrate the point. I was up in New England last summer as well and around this time last season everyone was like, what the hell is up with the Sox? They hovered close to .500, were inconsistent to a fault, people even wanted to get rid of Francona. Of course we all know what happened in the second half. Now, it may or may not take a big move (like trading Nomar last season for not very much...I guess Lowell would be this year's equivalent) but I'm just saying that good teams can look listless in the first half and put it together late. We're not in such a bad position we have to start trading everyone and calling up the entire Mudcats roster to finish the season.

Yeah, the only reason I could come up with was maybe they wanted to include Hermida but couldn't put him over Young, so they made him a LF for the lineup. 848894 Guess so...though it just ends up looking dumb on BA's part to anyone who's watched one Marlins game this season.
12. I thought it was a good article...the focus wasn't even really on Game 6 it was on Bartman as a person. I think in general the stuff about him is over the top. He didn't cause the Cubs to lose. But for everything that he's had to deal with from people, it's nice to see he's taking it all in stride.
13. 30...probably working in Boston, married, frequently going to Sox games, I hope.
14. Buffy 849112 Yup...good show. :thumbup
15. Damn this is a tough one...um...Lacey but definitely could've gone either way.
16. Even though this is a Marlins board, I doubt the percentage would look too different if you took the same poll of baseball media guys. We were widely regarded as the best team in this division coming into the season.
17. I dont know if this proves anything but this is on ESPN's store website, with this being the title of the item: Majestic Men's 05 All Star Home Run Jersey Marlins Cabrera, Miguel Heres the link if you dont believe me: Cabrera Home Run derby jersey 847981 It's technically the All-Star Jersey, but since the teams wear their team jerseys during the actual game, I guess the more accurate name for it would be the HR Derby jersey, as that's what the players all wear as they sit around and watch the Derby. IMO it's kinda dumb to have All-Star jerseys and not use them in the actual game.
18. It's expensive. 847530 And a famous big name. 847553 Celebs bought it because they were expensive and exclusive. Now every Debbie Homemaker is getting one. Soon Louis Vitton s*** will fall out of favor and be available at JC Penny for $30. 847558 I need it to hit bargain bins by October 18th.... The one my woman craves is like $400+ 847564 Wow...that's unfortunate. 847571 Very...especially for someone who wants a portable XM radio. She isnt one of those girls who asks for stuff or just wants to be bought stuff either but this is one of the few things shes ever really wanted....which is why I wonder the obsession with it. But b-day no. 21 is significant so who knows what I will do... :banghead 847574 Yeah...I've never had a fashion-conscious girlfriend, at least in that sense, wanting a $400 purse, so I think if that ever came up I'd just be confused. Then again, right now I don't have a girlfriend or any money to buy presents anyway so it's kind of a moot point.
19. Wow, that's crazy that there was a thought of cancer. Even though he's hurt, at least it's nothing that a few weeks off won't heal.

21. I think any derogatory comments towards the Marlins are made about two things: 1) attendance, 2) fire sale in '98. At least that's all I've heard. But informed baseball fans take us seriously as a team...too much talent not to.
22. Cabrera looks a lot like another AJ...nice stuff (though his fastball is more mid-90's than upper-90's), struggles with his control. The rain tonight wasn't helping, if anyone saw in the 5th inning jam he wasn't comfortable with the mound.
23. The division is winnable with the team we have now. The Nats are poised to slip and make it a race (first losing series at home since April and in close games, no less) and we're ready to go on a tear soon--two emotional wins, the team is starting to come together.
