Hanley Ramirez
So far I voted about 30 times for Hanley, Uggla, Cabrara, De Aza, Willingham, Olivo and Hermida. Why would you vote for Hermida? Well because his name is on the ballot. And I want to give our guys as much support as they can get.

"He's still our man"
Seriously, if I see him on a mound for the Marlins ever again there is going to be a problem. That goes double for me.

This might the only day we get to say this...
Reyes who? Hanley is the best shortstop in the national league if not all of baseball.

Alex Rios
Anyone got insider to toss up what Olney said of the situation? He thinks the Mets have a match with Heilman. If that's all it takes I'll be seriously PO'd if we don't get in and throw JJ at them. No way would I throw JJ at them. Pitching is more important then offense.

They want a No. 4 starter so I say we trade Nolasco right now to get Rios. That would be a great trade for both teams.

Updated: Wells signs extension with Blue Jays
"According to Tim Brown of Yahoo! Sports, the Blue Jays have offered Vernon Wells a seven year deal, worth 126 million dollars. However, Wells' agent, Greg Genske, said "we have yet to have meaningful discussions," about a contract extension. Wells, 28, would earn 18 million annually, one million more than what Alfonso Soriano signed for (8/136). Wells batted .303 with 32 HR, 106 RBI, and 17 SB. According to one baseball source, Wells would like to test the free agent market not only because it will be his first opportunity to do so, and because he could command close to 20 million annually."

New Stadium Talk on Radio 12/11/06
Sounds very promising. Please get something done soon!

Alex Sanchez signed
The Marlins better go after Vernon Wells next season. This is ridiculous were watching all the top free agents go to other team and the Marlins don't make any effort to sign anybody. Nothing is EVER going to happen with Loria as the head of this team. I just wish the Commissioner could have the power to do something with this guy. What do you want the guy to do? He brought in Pudge and we won a WS, he spent the money to pick up Delgado for 2005, and spent plenty to make/keep the team competetive. The result was still low attendance and no new stadium. Can you blame him for dumping off the guys he did, and thinking we could have a better team with a fresh start? And do you not think this team has promise than the 05 team would've had for 06? Paying someone a gazillion dollars a year isn't something we need to be doing. And once there is a new stadium deal, there will be more spending. It's not that I want them to spent millions on a player. Its just seem like they don't put any effort into signing anyone. I would be happy if we could trade for one of those top prospects like Kemp, Pie, or Ellsbury. that would be cool.

Jacoby Ellsbury
Jacoby Ellsbury sounds pretty good. (This was posted in the Sun-Sent thread too) Scouting Report: Ellsbury was on of the best players in the NCAA in 2005. He is very fast, plays excellent defense, and has shown a great ability to get on base. Decent gap power for a centerfielder who projects as a lead-off hitter. Has often been compared to Johnny Damon. Also said to be a team leader. Ellsbury has few holes in his game and is capable of beating teams in a lot of ways. He has excellent makeup and instincts. His best tool is his speed, and it?s evident both on the bases and in center field, where he catches everything hit his way :thumbup . He has been clocked in 6.55 seconds over 60 yards. He has become more patient, rarely swings and misses and is comfortable hitting with two strikes. His style of play and physical appearance have drawn comparisons to Johnny Damon at a similar age, but scouts say Ellsbury has a better swing. They question whether he?ll grow into the same power, though http://sonsofsamhorn.net/index.php?showtopic=3387 OF Jacoby Ellsbury - The Red Sox top pick in the 2005 draft, Ellsbury was selected 23rd overall and made his pro debut with Lowell in the New York-Penn League. Ellsbury finished the year with a .317 batting average, 19 RBI and 23 stolen bases. Ellsbury also showed good plate discipline as well drawing 24 walks and striking out just 20 times. Ellsbury played at Oregon State University for three seasons and compiled a .368 batting average with 99 RBI, 16 homers and 56 stolen bases. Ellsbury holds the OSU record for career runs scored with 162 and also set the single season hit record with 86 in 2005. http://www.oursportscentral.com/services/r...ses/?id=3288083 (All from sonsofsamhorn.com) Jacoby sounds like what we need - CF'er with speed and OBP. Anyone have an idea what it would take to get him? I don't see Ellsbury as a lead-off batter in any way or form, just look as his K-BB ratio, he has excellent power We are talking a potential 3 spot hitter. This dude is just freakin awesome! Excellent power? no that's not Ellsbury, you must be thinking of someone else. He will be a great lead-off man though. I stand corrected thank you...I was somehow thinking of Hunter Pence...crazy huh? Pence actually might be able to be pried away after his AFL debacle and often problems and the Astros have a nice OF for a long time already. But the price would be very very high. I would love to see him as our starting CF though. I still think we should try to pry Kemp out of the hands of the dodgers. They just signed another OF in Gonzalez now as well. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/ Yeah, I would really like to see Kemp play Center for us. That guys stats are really good. What would it take to get him? The Marlins have stressed that they do not want to give up pitching.

Sexson to Marlins?
i agree, nothing too much to benefit us. I would rather keep Jacobs at 1st base. :thumbup that's exacly what I was going to say.

A CENTERFIELD IDEA
I think the Marlins should go after Sammy Sosa to play center. The Marlins are known to rejuvenate players. and also, the good thing about getting him is that he's a free agent, so we wouldn't have to give up any of our pitching.

More Centerfield talk - Who's left
Just wanted to try and mention everybody who's been brought up in one place and update on the ones who've become less likely. Willy Taveras - Not very popular on here, but we've all heard the Marlins had interest in him even before he raised his value with a 30-game hit streak. Seeing as how the Astros didn't pick up Gary Matthews Jr., I can't imagine them replacing Taveras at this point. so I don't think He'll be moving. David Roberts - is going to San Francisco. Juan Pierre, and pretty much every other FA CF has been signed (JP to LA). Terry Evans, Tommy Murphy and Reggie Willits - good suggestions from Marlins2003, as the Angels have signed GMJ and also have Vlad, so there aren't enough OF spots to play all three of them, so logic should dictate that if we can satisfy some other need of theirs that they might be willing to give one up. Willits had that very very nice OBP in AAA, so if we wanted to move Hanley down in the order, Willits would be a good option. Joey Gathright - We wanted him last year and the DRays wanted too much. Now after a horrid performance in TB and then a late resurgence when he fled to KC, maybe KC would be more reasonable trade partners than Tampa. Still remains to be seen if we have something they want. Shane Costa & Mitch Maier - a corner OF from KC and minor league CF. Maier being good for some of the same reasons as Willits, even if he hasn't played at quite the same level yet. Felix Pie - given that the Cubs have signed Soriano to play CF and they haven't moved any other OFers, it remains to be seen how willing they are to trade him to fill pitching needs. Am I missing anyone? Your missing Rocco Baldelli the best one out of all those you listed

Marlins Mailbag
Sign Kenny Lofton to a one year deal! He can still play and is better than some of these names being mentioned like David Murphy. Yeah, that's a good Idea for temporarly solution until we get our stadium, and then we could go after someone like Vernon Wells.
