If we are thinking of dealing AJ
just a rumor quoted from floridamarlins.com: MIAMI -- With the July 31 trade deadline coming into focus, rumors involving potential free agents are starting to rise. A.J. Burnett, coming off a two-hit, complete-game shutout on Sunday at Tampa Bay, found himself answering questions Monday about speculation that he could be moved. According to baseball analyst Ken Rosenthal of The Sporting News, the Marlins have engaged in preliminary talks with Baltimore in a deal that could involve Burnett for either starters Daniel Cabrera or Hayden Penn, reliever Jorge Julio and outfielder Admin Bigbie. Juan Encarnacion could factor into the deal. Orioles scout Bruce Kison, who lives in Bradenton, Fla., was on hand to watch Burnett on Sunday at Tropicana Field. Being involved in trade talks is nothing new for Burnett, who found himself in rumors during the Winter Meetings last December in Anaheim. At the time, Burnett was speculated in a deal with the Yankees for Javier Vazquez. "I'm always on the block," Burnett said. Burnett said he had no idea about the Baltimore rumor until he heard Monday morning from his wife, Karen. "Hopefully, I'm going to stay here," Burnett said. "When we start hitting and pitching and everything comes together, it's going to be a scary rally. Hopefully, it leads into October." A power pitcher with a 100-mph fastball, Burnett is a front-line starter who would be an ace on numerous clubs. General manager Admin Beinfest did not confirm anything is in the works with Burnett, but did say: "Certainly in the division we're not out of it. And certainly in the Wild Card, we're not out of it. We're looking for the offense to perform consistently. And we're continuing to assess. We believe that we're in it. Whatever moves, if any that are coming, we'll take them one by one and see how they will help the club." At this stage, it is unlikely the right-hander would be dealt because the Marlins feel very much in the playoff race. Even though Burnett may depart through free agency after the season, the Marlins have shown in the past that they are willing to take that risk if it means a chance to reach the playoffs now. A year ago, they watched Carl Pavano set a franchise record with 18 wins, and he made the All-Star Game. After the season, Pavano signed as a free agent with the Yankees. The Marlins are a club that will take the compensatory draft picks for losing a type-A free agent. A source told MLB.com that at least one other team was told the Marlins are not planning on dealing Burnett as long as they feel in the race, unless they are swept away with the value brought in return. Manager Jack McKeon said, "Rumors get tossed around. I don't think there is anything to it."

boot jack mckeon?
Lou isn't an idiot, and he doesn't " suck " Lou is in a bad situation where the ownership ( naimoli ) refuses to spend money on the team. He's got the leagues lowest payroll, somewhere around $28M I believe, and he is forced to go with washed up Vets or raw, raw rookies. each year the Rays lose their best players and trade their hitters for pitching prospects that never pan out. You can only improve a team so much without money and an ownership group that cares about winning more than the bottom line. If Naimoli left Tampa, they would be a winning club within 3 years. 812211 your joking right...the rays a winning club please......

Alright. Just so you understand, if you keep trying to make people look stupid for the sole purpose of that and not for the sake of discussion, and you choose to keep rubbing this garbage in people's faces, you will have it turned back on you in a much worse way. As long as you understand that. 809267 i welcome your challange....BTW the beef wasn't with you but if you want some come get some...- Al officially into the bullpen
Is this the first time you are right in your entire life? Jesus Christ calm down no i've been right a lot of times, but i wanted to prove this know it all wrong...Stop acting like you've never been right before then. We got the point, you don't have to have multiple posts assuring us that you're right. Why you ask? Because that pisses members off, members who might just creep up on your arguments, put them to shame, and then rub it back in your face. Now you wouldn't want that on a regular basis, now would you? 809263 sure go ahead its a FREE country due what you want as i'm doing to him and you...- Al officially into the bullpen

I gave my apologies for thinking otherwise the other day. :whistle 809233 hehe.... :shifty :shifty- Al officially into the bullpen
I really don't think this is a permanent move, it is just being done for 2 weeks because of the way our schedule is set up and the proximity to the All Star Game. However, hopefully the next 3 weeks will give Al some time to go over his mechanics and finally get his location in check. And hopefully we will get to see our 4 other starters win a bunch of important games for us going into the break. GO FISH! 808805 Yup thats exactly it, same as when early on we skipped moehlers starts and he was available out of the pen for that time. in fact leiter will msot likely return to the rotation and when ish comes backm he'll take over long relief duties 809219 hey won't answer me when i was right..hehe yea that's right stay shut cause you know you were wrong now be a good boy and leave...- Dead Fish of the Week (June 6 - June 12)
leiter's sorry ass got this guy SUCKS.... :thumbdown :thumbdown- Al officially into the bullpen
:mischief2 :mischief2- Al officially into the bullpen
damn no answer from you legacy??? :mischief2 :mischief2 :mischief2- Al officially into the bullpen
you guys act like lieter is going there forever. I think Lieter is the best starting pitcher that is available at this time. Maybe come July teams that fall out of contention will try to unload some high priced pitching but RIGHT now Lieter has to be our starter. Going to tbe bullpen will be good for him because relievers have a diferent mentality than starts do. coming out of the pen he can just throw what he wants and not worry about a pitch count or mixing it up. he will be a good left handed reliever for us if we need him. when valdez comes back i think we can use valdez and lieter as good spot starters for our 5th man in the rotation. 809016 are you clueless???the guy freaking SUCKS!!!! The problem that you (rolando) fail to realize is that giving him more time doesnt mean we'll lose every game he pitches, it means theres an equal chance of him improving. and frankly, theres a large possibility that he'll improve. Its the law of probability, hes a good pitcher. Damn, ive been defending leiter so much today that if he ever stumbles on this board he should send me a thank you card hey legacyofcangelosi why aren't you to defending your boy now??? you still think that way??? :mischief2 :mischief2- Al officially into the bullpen
I'm all for it. :thumbup 808776 hey fish24 you still think leiter is gonna get better as time goes on???told you guys he sucked and would only hurt the team.... :whistle :whistle- Believe!
Like someone mentioned in another thread.....we need someone to lead this team just like Pudge did in 2003. We need a leader. We need someone to step up. The problem is, who can fill that role? Who in our roster can take responsibility to do that. Or who can we trade for so they can lead our Fish? 792832 hey man like your sig...hopefully we can get him back on track.... :super :thumbup- Believe!
I BELIVE AND WE WILL START WINNING TODAY... GO MARLINS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!- Lowell to Dodgers?
WTF? Pignator is a dumb f***. 789998 my thought exactly he's back wiith a diffrent name...- Things that we can do...
QAM is catering to the masses down here. That's all 782800 If you think that's all it is I might suggest you brush up on Business 101. 782869 What else can it be? Conspiracy to bring the Marlins down? doubtful. They have a vested interest for the Marlins to do better, but they aren't going to push it down to listeners throats or demand their radio staff to talk about the Marlins. This is the same argument as, "Why does ESPN talks about the Yankees so much?"( Catering to the masses) Following for this team is increasing, but at a slow pace. when mandish, Big O, and Hank talk football that's what their audience wants to hear. And that's why I don't listen to QAM ever, but I'm probably the exeption down here. 784682 you not the only one man i stopped listening to it all together cause of that s***..- Leiter Holding Us Back
so rolando, let me get this straight... you dont like Leiter? 784572 um what make you think that?? :mischief- Leiter Holding Us Back
The problem that you (rolando) fail to realize is that giving him more time doesnt mean we'll lose every game he pitches, it means theres an equal chance of him improving. and frankly, theres a large possibility that he'll improve. Its the law of probability, hes a good pitcher. Damn, ive been defending leiter so much today that if he ever stumbles on this board he should send me a thank you card 784470 ok explain his last 4 starts and why he didn't get past 4 inning...FYI HES THE HIGHEST PAID PITCHER IN OUR STAFF.....and then please let me know when the hell are his improvements coming.....- Attention People Who Read This Forum
He didn't start the '97 off well either?? That was 8 years ago.? He is now 40 years old. Leiter has an ERA of 8.06 in May. In 9 starts this season he has 2 that qualify as quality starts. Three games (33%) he has not made it through 5 innings. He is averaging 4.77 innings per start. He is averaging 1.69 runners per inning, 1.88 in May. Only Jennings, Wright and Wilson have higher ERA's in the NL and two of those guys pitch in Coors, the other has an arm injury and pitches in Cincy. I agree that people that throw players over the edge on a whim are wrong, but just as wrong are people that won't face facts.? Will Leiter turn it around?? I guess he could.? I don't think he will.? But it is a valid discussion to ask if a change needs to be made. Fact is most of you were all over Darren Oliver when he had similar problems. Shame on all of you that think a post telling members to shut up is awesome. I guess that's what ya want though so I leave you with this....Shove It! 784391 i agree :lol 784419 You dont agree with his argument u just dont like leiter 784429 i do agree with his agument and i know i dislike al leiter... - Al officially into the bullpen
