Loria's letter to the fans
What fan base there is in Miami will never support the team through actual attendance so long as Loria owns the Marlins. When and if Loria's ego is overcome by red ink, he will sell the team. If that instance never arrives, fans and prospective fans will have to wait the overweight seventy three year old's departure from this mortal coil. There is no red ink when he does this. He makes bundles. Drop payroll, lower attendance, higher profits. He does not care otherwise and if his blind squirrel finds a nut, ok, then he takes the credit.

Loria's letter to the fans
Did anyone else here the audio clip on 790 where Loria said 20 or 30 people came up to at a wine and food festival and congratulated him on the trade? I just can't believe that. Maybe a couple of his friends congratulated him but random people? I wonder if he asked any of those people if they were ticket holders or attended more than a random game or two or even cares about baseball. Otherwise, they only know what is happening because it has been on the front pages.

If this is true...then WOW
I think they will be lucky to get 15k for opening day. From all I read, fans truly are pissed this time and they will show it by their absence at all games. and if, by some miracle, we're winning in August, "Loria is a great owner. He knows what he's doing."orrr the fans would be going to support the players while feeling awful for giving Loria any money. the longer the fans don't show up, the more money he loses, the quicker he sells the team. which is what EVERYONE wants The less fans that show, the less money he makes the more the Yankees have to pay Loria. It is twisted baseball economics and Loria plays it better than anyone, thus, no one sits with him at the owner's meeting.

Mathis breaks right collarbone
Player-manager time. I'm all for it. Better with a guy who has multiple personalities. Then he can fight himself after lifting himself for a pinch hitter. Or a pitcher who can throw to himself-such as Hatcher the Pitcher/Catcher

Loria's letter to the fans
How sad, I actually appreciated the letter and appreciated him finally saying something, but its sad how no matter what he does, its automatically taken negatively. At this point, Loria can walk on water and people would complain that he can't swim. Appreciation? I can think of many ways to take his letter-but feeling appreciation is not one of them. One of his issues is that the tone is that we should appreciate him for everything he has done including bringing us an artistic building. What is missing from his letter is the appreciation he owes to the community, the city and the county and those politicians whose service ended as a result, REGARDLESS if those politicians had any specific purpose. I think some of them actually knew it was not a good deal but wanted to secure a major league team for future generations, knowing one day Loria would be gone. Again, Loria has much to thank the community for and any real appreciation should be for that-not by us for his self serving narcisstic letter.

Loria's letter to the fans
I don't want to sound like a Loria apologist but people complained when he stayed silent after the trade. Now there are complaints when he says something. I don't think he said anything particularly wrong but it just proves there is nothing he can do to appease most of the fans ever again. No, it is just wrong to say that there "is nothing he can do...". He had a tremendous opportunity to turn this franchise in to a stable organization. Fans were ready to believe everything about the bad lease, the concesssions etc and start trusting. He may have gone overboard last year in his all or nothing approach, that is now an obvious mistake and one he could use to bring about some common sense changes. But, once again, he went all to nothing and says "trust me, it is for your own good, we were losing anyway". With this history here, averaging over 27,000 should have been a signal that there is baseball life, especially after the June disaster and the mid season trades for prospects. Regardless of the POSSIBLE baseball logic, he mentions running his business. In baseball's twisted finances, minimizing customers, in Loria's world, is more beneficial then having a fair mix of fiscal sanity and sports promotion. No, there was a lot he could have done differently that still would have angered some (agreed that some people are never satisfied) but received support from many also that in the long run would provide a product that people would still support-at least to a reasonable degree. He gets nothing now, but a main problem is that we the fans are asked to support, at major league prices against major league competition, a team slightly above a true minor league team. When we win, there will be bandwagon support, but you can't create stability that way. See, down here, we have seen this all before and for once, or maybe twice, the fans get a bye and the owner does not. Somehow, even if we averaged 35,000 estimating an average daily spending of $30, would not support a $65 million drop in payroll. This is Loria, I believe he wanted to win it all and then would have still traded off most of the parts. It would have been a Hueizenga repeat, "enjoy the moment", but the difference this time is that the Stadium sits there on the site of many championships, where mediocrity or worse was not common and is difficult to accept, especially when it is a planned effort. My opinion.

Winter Warm Up (formerly FanFest) 2013
They've done more bad than good, unfortunately. Maybe they have but if you read some comments here and around the internet in general -- it sounds more like they've done 100% bad which is false. Hey now Admin!! We're a anti-loria board. No compliments for him! I'm waiting to be accused of being Loria in disguise. :lol One does not have to be 100% bad to still be overall in the bad. That is what many reasonable people think and rightfully so. There is balance, and it is skewed toward the negative. I even doubt that even if the team was competitive to the end but came up short, this would not have happened. The 2.2 attendance vs 2.7 projected does not equate to the $60 million drop in payroll, nor will it look any better when we jettison Nolasco out of here in a few months. Loria gave everyone the one year as a thank you, and now back to the way things were.

Jeb Bush reportedly tried to buy the Marlins this offseason
*** REPORTORIAL HACKERY ALERT *** The article at marlins.com said Loria won't be interested in selling until at least after the 2014 season when he no longer has to share profits with Miami-Dade. I don't remember anything about this profit sharing thing. The April '09 non-relocation agreement calls for a percentage of any price in excess of 250 million to be paid to the City/County if 50+% of the team is sold: Year - % '09 - 70 '10 - 60 '11 - 50 '12 - 30 '13 - 10 '14 - 7.5 '15 - 5 '16 - 5 '17 - 5 '18 - 5 http://www.miamidade.gov/internalservices/library/nonrelocation_agreement.pdf On a sale, Loria owes a percentage for the next 6 years and a relocation/sale penalty was always part of the deal from day one, modified twice along the way. The idea that he owes nothing on a sale in '15 is just flat-out wrong. Obviously, it was assumed the Jan '09 non-relocation agreement was the final agreement -- except that the agreement was modified in April '09. But, even assuming that the Jan '09 agreement was still in effect, the Jan '09 penalty reached zero in '16 -- not '15. (See the link for the obsolete Jan '09 percentages.) Misreported terms of the wrong agreement. A two-fer case of hackery. Close enough for "reporter" work. This always bothered me, why would we want to keep Loria. If the city and county are upset that Loria has not met his "moral" obligation of spending money on the team, then drop the penalty and let him get the hell out of here. I know they did not want him to pocket the increased value that came with the stadium, but getting rid of him is a win win. In reality, the penaly is on us, the fans.

Jose Valverde
Rotoworld says he'd be coming to setup for Cishek, but I highly doubt that. I really don't mind the move at all if he's a set up guy. But why spend $5m or so on a setup guy when you're rebuilding? Who's rebuilding? We have great prospects who may surprise you. Back to my bottle.

Dyson claimed, Mattison DFA
4.6 K/9 in the minor leagues... He has a good shot to be in our bullpen some day and that k-rate may have been a fluke... He's had TJ twice though... http://www.bucsdugout.com/2013/1/22/3904984/free-prospect-alert-blue-jays-dfa-sam-dyson glad to hear he has had TJ twice. I was concerned we actually signed someone that had not been seriously injured previously

Marlins Insider
I stand by my thought that Stanton will not sign anything that takes him past his arby years. That is by no means a long term contract. It is basically a renegotiation of his current contract. Him and his agent(s) are going to want the guaranteed $$$ (in case of injury) but will want to hit FA, and out of Miami, as soon as they can. So why would the Marlins offer anything if that is the case? Why be on the hook in the event of injury-if Stanton received a very significant offer to extend beyond arbi years and his agents tell him to wait 3 years and risk everything-that is a serious rolling of the dice for a young man who could have his whole life secure by the time he is 24 years of age.

Loria, Trainers, and the Marlins
sounds like Shaq when he left the Heat. Oh yes, I wish the Marlins were run like the Heat and I wish Arison would just dig in to his petty cash and buy the Marlins.

never any good news on the baseball front.

Cincinnati, Not Miami, Expected to get 2015 AS game
Regardless of who deserves it, if it is punishment to Loria, then it is like the NCAA, punish the innocent. The city and county put up the stadium, regarldless of which taxes funds it, not Loria, and the community would showcase the stadium and S. Florida. We certainly get plenty of showcasing anyway, with the Heat, the BCS, Super Bowls and our overall glitz of celebrities, but more never hurts and we deserve it, especially because they took it away from us once as punishment for refusing to build a stadium. Now we build one and we still do not get it. The fact that we have a s..tty owner is not our fault, just our misfortune-so yes, this sucks.

Samson banned from doing interviews
It was lost in translation, he meant to tell him he was going to trade him. Same issue happened with Delgado. If I recall, the comment to Delgado was something like "don't worry about being traded"-which can be interpreted literally.

Newest Marlins Fan
One of the best days of your life-congrats. I am so tight with my daughters and my oldest one and I go to all the games together. We even have a pact, when either one of us travels to a city with baseball (even minor league) we go to a game at the stadium. But back to you-only good health and happiness-just do not get any jerseys with a player name on it.

Marlon Byrd...
Where would he play? New Orleans? Why do they want to bring in a light hitting outfielder when Hernandez, Ruggiano, and Peterson are waiting for their chances. cheep, cheep

Winter Warm Up (formerly FanFest) 2013
I spoke to a friend of mine, who's a season ticket holder, and he told me that the team told him that it was going to be an event just for them. Should be a nice intimate gathering.

Fan Fest 2013
Haven't read anything yet. Best guess....First Saturday after pitchers and catchers report. Biggest day of the year for ticket sales, both single game and some sort of season ticket packages. Be interesting to see how they are going to market those packages. By getting on their hands and knees and begging.
