I'm sorry, but anyone who saw this movie and said it sucks is likely a fan of torture porn and thus has clouded judgment when it comes to this genre. And I'm not talking about HeatGirl as that was a more indifferent response. This is an old school thriller/horror/suspense film that elects to use traditional scare tactics over violence and bloodshed. John Cusack gets an A+ for an awesome performance. He has one scene with his daughter that just shows such unbelievable range it nearly made my head spin. The movie gets a 8.5/10 for having the balls to be a throwback in a dying genre, a great throwback. 1408 is probably the best all-around movie I've seen so far this year.
  2. This show is absolutely hilarious. I recommend it to everyone.
  3. My favorite show as a kid. Hopefully, they elect to make some new episodes.
  4. Is she the one who does the commercials for that deodorant or whatever it is?
  5. I wouldn't expect any real moves from the Yankees. The pitching is fine as is, especially with Hughes coming back on board in August which works like a trade itself, and the hitting is the best lineup in baseball. Keep in mind, a lot of teams like to throw the Yankees name around. If they do acquire a bat it'll be a Bobby Abreu or Craig Wilson type deal.
  6. The fact that no one else has mentioned Hoop Dreams is disturbing. For some reason (still not sure exactly why) I decided not to count it as a sports movie. If you've seen my top 10 movies of all time it's in there.
  7. 1. Field of Dreams 2. Raging Bull 3. Rocky 4. The Hurricane 5. White Men Can't Jump

The third season of Rescue Me just came out on DVD. Of course, this is assuming you have the first two.
  9. Deleted, whatsup.
  10. I hated All the Pretty Horses so I'm a little bit hesitant about reading another Cormac book. I bought Orwell's 1984 today. I kind of feel the same way about Cormac. I read Blood Meridian and didn't think it was as great as everyone hyped it to be. I can see why people would like him, but I just didn't like the writing style of the book. Blood Meridian and No Country For Old Men appear to be written in almost completely different styles. At least from the quick peak I took at Blood Meridian. I don't know, I'm surprised you guys don't like him. I really enjoyed NCFOM. It's a very quick read as well.
  11. Alright. I zipped through No Country for Old Men by Cormac McCarthy. It finishes up even better than it starts, making an excellent commentary on growing old, modern society and the struggle to find ones place in a quickly advancing world. I highly recommend EVERYONE here gives it a look. I absolutely cannot wait for the film version of this to be released in the fall. It should be fantastic. Since I needed some new material, tonight I went and picked up Of Mice and Men (I'm embarrassed I haven't read it already), The Works of Henry David Thoreau and Blood Meridian. I'll report back if anyone is interested.
  12. Phillip Hughes suffered another setback...not expected back until August Well, it's really not "another" setback. It's his first setback that we first found out about almost a week ago, it's just a media clarification of exactly what happened to him. Also, he had a grade 3 sprain of his ankle doing agility drills, it was completely unrelated to the hammy. It could've happened to anyone at anytime. On the bright side, at least the Yankees won't have to worry about shutting him down due to innings at the end of the year.
  13. I thought the Yankees actually wouldn't mortgage a lot of the future of their franchise for quick band-aids like proposed above. Please, please, please go after more aging position players. Oh. In that case, yes. But, who does anyone have to trade if they don't want to mortgage their future?
  14. Who the hell do the Yankees have to trade to acquire those players? :lol :lol You realize the Yankees have the best minor league pitching talent in baseball, right? Of course, I'm hoping the Yankees stand pat and don't do anything, but they certainly have the assets to acquire a Ken Griffey Jr. or Todd Helton. See: Joba Chamberlain, Dellin Betances, Jose Tabata, Alan Horne, Tyler Clippard, Jeff Marquez.
  15. Palahniuk is a strange author. Survivor was spectacular and continues to be one of my favorite books ever, but since then, he's gone progressively downhill. Rant is written in an interesting style (oral biographical) and has some interesting ideas in it, but frequently runs into the usual Chuck problem of too much over-the-topness. I realize that's why most people read him, but eventually it just becomes tedious. I'd give it a 6/10. It really picks up in the last 150 pages, but it's hell to get through before that. Just my take.
  16. A favorite book list is so hard to compile, but if I had to give it a go, at the moment it'd be: 1. The Count of Monte Cristo 2. Beowulf 3. V for Vendetta 4. Cat's Cradle 5. Survivor I just recently finished Rant, Chuck Palahniuk's new book, and have since started and am halfway through No Country for Old Men by Cormac McCarthy (which is absolutely excellent). After that I'm reading Blood Meridian, also by McCarthy, followed by Batman: Dark Victory.
  17. Yep. That game ended on November 1st, hence Mr. November.
  18. The movie does an excellent job of tying up all of the loose ends. You'll have a hell of a time keeping up with everything and theres an absurd amount of side changing, but it's a ton of fun and the action scenes are simply fantastic (though some of the jokes are getting a little stale). Fortunately, there's always something interesting going on and despite a slightly tedious romantic moment, the final hour is a thrill-a-second visual orgy. 9/10. To clarify my above statement, I should say I haven't seen the first Pirates since it first came out on DVD years ago. I remember it being very good and entertaining, but I may be shortchanging it a bit.
  19. 2nd > 1st. I'm looking forward to the 3rd. Easily the best out of 'Battle of the Sequels 2' this summer. no way....1>2 3>1>2.
  20. Keep in mind, Dent's more of a hero until the end. Scarecrow also has a small role from what we've been told.
  21. Is it true that Nestor Carobonell aka Richard Alpert on Lost was cast as the Gotham City mayor? Yes.
  22. Anthony Michael Hall from The Dead Zone has joined the cast. His role is "secret". The Mad Hatter? The Riddler? Hm... http://www.batman-on-film.com/batmovienews.html
  23. Hate to be making so many posts about the same subject in the same day, but... http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b304/Jac...r24/pixels3.jpg Thats what the image looks like so far with some filters applied and the specific pixels taken out of the image. Thanks to JackBauer over at SHH.
  24. Just realized you can email the Joker after he sends you your coordinates. He actually sends a message back. This is pretty elaborate.
  25. Dunno the validity of this, but it's amusing nonetheless. http://www.ibelieveinharveydenttoo.com/ http://www.superherohype.com/news/topnews.php?id=5710 And if it is real, kudos to WB. UPDATE: After some snooping, it does appear that the IBelieveinHarveyDentToo site is legit. It was registered a few days before the IBelieveInHarveyDent website was launched.
