*Bob Sheppard's Voice* Your 2006 American League MVP, numba two, shortstop, Derek Jeter... shortstop oooooooor Jason Giambi If Jeter wins the MVP I'll bet he'll be the MVP with the worst "close and late" numbers in the history of the game. http://newyork.yankees.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/...amp;compare.y=5 interesting.... but espn has his numbers in 73 at bats: .301/.427/.384/.811 I noticed the differences a while back between ESPN and MLB's official site. I guess MLB and ESPN use different definitions of close and late. I use the MLB numbers. Check Jeter's numbers with RISP. That is all. His RISP numbers are good, top 20 in MLB, but his close and late numbers are a couple of notches below pathetic. Then check his VORP (quite possibly the best general value statistic) which is the 2nd highest in baseball. That is one notch below the best, for the record. And, just so we're clear, the ESPN defintion of close and late is much better than the MLB standard definition. ESPN's is actually a more accurate "clutch" statistic since it is based on later innings.
  2. Yankee Fans Lure A-Rod Out Of Dugout With Curtain Call In Order To Boo Him :lol :lol :lol :o :lol Thats just messed up,Yankee fans are never happy If the Marlins had him I would be a very happy guy You get that it's a joke, right? That really didn't happen.

  4. Alright, I saw it last night. Very good, was entertained the whole way through. 8.5/10.

  6. Papelbon was never the best closer in baseball. He is having one of the top 5 seasons for a closer in the modern era. I don't see how you can attribute the Sox downfall to the Yankees series, the writing was on the wall much earlier than that. Pre-Yankee series they had lost 5/6 to Tampa Bay and Baltimore. They swept Baltimore but did lose 2/3 to the Rays. I'm not arguing about Papelbons season statistics. They are disgusting. He has been absolutely spectacular (though he has faltered lately). If you check the MVP, Cy Young, ROY posts you'll notice I am/was one of the few people giving Paps his due in the Cy Young and ROY races. He is still not the best closer in baseball, nor was he ever. And wait a minute. . .when did they get swept by the Devil Rays then? Did I seriously just make that 5 of 6 thing up? I could've sworn they lost 5/6 to somebody right before the Yankees series...Or maybe that was after... I need to get more sleep.
  7. Papelbon was never the best closer in baseball. Lester had been terrible as of late (pre-lymphoma). Beckett has sucked since May (wins is a terrible statistic). Schilling has pitched a sh*tload of innings for his age. David Ortiz is really an unfortunate occurence, but again, that has only been for the past few games. Losing Jason Varitek is the real blow, however. The guy was the heart and soul of that team. He knew how to handle the staff, played solid D and despite being brutal at the plate this year, usually came through when his team needed him most. I don't see how you can attribute the Sox downfall to the Yankees series, the writing was on the wall much earlier than that. Pre-Yankee series they had lost 5/6 to Tampa Bay and Baltimore. Let's face it, the Sox are simply not that good, and they just couldn't keep the boat afloat after losing Tek.

I'm assuming they hope for the start of pre-production by July, 2007. Otherwise, you can consider this rumor to be complete bullsh!t.
  9. Get better soon, Jon.

I'd have to concur. I wouldn't call her ugly, but she's very average looks-wise. Humorous commercial, however.
  11. http://break.com/index/cheater_busted_war_or_the_roses.html Graphic, but that just makes it more hilarious.
  12. I've been starting to root for the Yankees over the past few years just because I'm annoyed by all these mindless hating just because they're the best franchise in sports...the hatred is pretty much jealousy You deserve to be banned for stupidity.
  13. The best part of this old onion artlicle is the picture..cant leave out the picture: Funny that two of those five actually end up being signed by the Yankees. Actually none of them were 'signed', they were traded for.

  15. It's not really a big deal. He's still making his start on Wednesday. However, I wouldn't be surprised at all if he sprains a pinky toe or tweaks his ear cartiledge before then.
  16. From an interview with Nolan via betterthanfudge.com: "Will The Joker be different than past live-action interpretations? ? "Yes. I would certainly point to The Killing Joke but I also would point very much to the first two appearances of The Joker in the comic. If you look at where The Joker comes from there?s a very clear direction that fits what we?re doing very well.? Thats why I asked.
  17. Buckeye, have you read Batman #1? And whatever the second Batman/Joker story was? They mentioned that those two were going to heavily play in the sequel. Do you know what they were about or have any plot outlines you could give us?
  18. Hopefully it's getting a Christmas release because it is more suited to a winter release. Late September was really perfect. Seeing as the Oscars have been pushed forward a month, late September translates to late October in past years. Essentially, the move crosses itself off any Oscar lists, and though it didn't have a very good hcnace of getting more than a nomination or two, it was an interesting dark horse.
  19. According to a BOF source, Nolan's first choice for the Joker was Sean Penn but he declined. That would have been a bad ass choice as well. Did you ever hear the 'Christian Bale drunkily shouting that Sean Penn was going to be the Joker' rumor? Apparently it was true. Ha! He would have been an excellent choice. Check out the trailer for All The King's Men - Sean Penn would have pulled the Joker off quite well. Not to stray too far from the topic... But, Christian Bale has done some pretty good movies. Batman Begins (obviously) and American Psycho (one of my favorites). Let's see, Newsies and Swing Kids, which I haven't seen, Velvet Goldmine and Shaft, haven't seen them either, Reign of Fire, the Machinist. Can anyone recommend any of these movies? I think the guy's a hell of an actor, obviously he's had some classical training, and I just can't wait for the Prestige. The Machinist is a mind-f***ing movie. Very trippy and weird. Bale weighs about 100 pounds in it. It's flawed, but I'd say it's worth watching if you're interested in that kind of thing (think The Jacket).

  21. This is about 4 years old. And it's just as dumb now as it was then.
  22. I needed to waste twenty minutes so I typed this up, feel free to add your own: Not Mentioned (in no order): The Pursuit of Happyness, Babel, Stranger Than Fiction, The Assassination of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford, Goya's Ghosts, All The King's Men, Flags of Our Fathers, The Dark Knight (too far off). 5. Children Of Men - Despite hearing that the book sucked, the movie looks very promising. I generally like Clive Owen's work (Sin City, Inside Man) and the trailer already has me going "What If?" We'll see if it can be pulled off on screen better than on paper. 4. Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End - Loved the first two movies. Just fun, entertaining ridiculousness. The last movie ended on a huge cliffhanger that certainly left me wanting more. Let's see if Depp can deliver again. 3. The Prestige - Great book that could really be pulled off well on-screen if done correctly. Christian Bale is one of my favorite actors, Christopher Nolan is one of my favorite directors and Scarlett Johansson is one of the hottest people alive. This movie is a lock to be entertaining, if it's anything better than that, is still up in the air. 2. The Fountain - Combine hugely positive reviews, a fantastic director in Aronofsky, a great cast headed by Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weisz, an epic script, and one of the best early trailers ever created and what do you get? Major hype. The Fountain is currently positioning itself towards an Oscar run (release date changed to November 22nd), can't wait to see it. 1. The Departed - Jack Nicholson, Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Mark Wahlberg, Martin Sheen...need I say more? Stellar cast. Great plot. Scorsese. Intriguing as hell trailer. Did I mention Jack Nicholson?

My utter disdain for the NY Yankees organization has reached an all time high. I will cheer loudly and proudly when they fail to win the World Series this year when that day inevitably comes. Note: I neither like or dislike the Red Sox. Its all about pure, unadulterated Yankee hate. Why do u hate the Yankees so much....... it's not because they have a wealthy owner that wants to win so he gets the best players possible is it? George Steinbrenner is actually one of the least wealthy owners outside of baseball.
  24. About what? Jeter, for the majority of his career, has been mediocre defensively. And never been more than average. First of all, mediocre and average mean the same thing (http://thesaurus.reference.com/browse/mediocre). Second of all, if you think Derek Jeter is a bad defensive shortstop you haven't got a clue. Don't even bring in defensive statistics like "range factor" and the other Bill James fantasy world defensive statistics - they are worthless in reality. Do yourself a favor, and watch Jeter play for a week, if you still maintain that Jeter is bad (which I am assuming is what you meant by mediocre) defensively, then you just need to get over your anti-Yankees bias. That being said, he is, by no means, an elite defensive shortstop, but he is slightly above MLB average, and well above the league average in the American League.
  25. Still think this stems from the BOF rumor. Won't believe this one til WB confirms it.
