The Most Preposterous Things Said From Baseball People
The majority of the people who post on the Sun-Sentinel boards. It's just a bunch of 60-year old men who like to hear themselves talk about how horrible Hermida, Uggla, and Freddi are. I wouldn't call them baseball people, because they are idiots, but their lack of baseball intelligence is astounding. They make these obscure references from the good ol' days to get their point across. And then when you counter their point they resort to personal jabs. Awesomeness. I like reading what those old guys have to say. They saved that blog.

Chris Coghlan
Matt Dominguez says hi. Rather than saying hi he should worry about getting some hits.

Is It Time To Start Thinking Of Firing Fredi Gonzalez
he (jacobs) still sucked with the bat. That's what I call hitters who can't put up a .300 .OBP. Hitters are supposed to produce runs. Getting on base is only part of the run production equation. You'll be best served if you look a the entire equation rather than only the OBP part of it.

Is It Time To Start Thinking Of Firing Fredi Gonzalez
I'm sorry, but the crappy product out on the field right now was put there by the front office. They're the ones who stuck us with no options and no flexibility in case guys like Maybin, Miller, Sanchez, etc. all played exactly like could have been predicted. We started the year without a realistic option for a 4th outfielder, with a slap hitting third basemen who can't hit or walk, and no starting pitching depth. We've got a couple of guys who are underperforming, and another few that are injured. These things happen, and the front office should have foreseen it as well as a lot of us did and come up with appropriate fallback options. Instead, we shipped out whatever semblance of depth we had by trading Olsen and Willingham and not re-signing Gonzo. I realize that our payroll handicaps us somewhat, but there are guys out there who would have signed cheap deals to be here that we didn't pursue. We counted on every player performing at their best case scenario to even have a chance at competing. That's not the way you win. I've said it before- we were a competitive team last year and didn't need to make wholesale changes to maintain that this year. We just needed to add capable starting pitching to last years squad. When we ship out 30 homer hitting first basemen, starting pitchers, and Lfers for spare parts, I really have a hard time believing in this FO. They're the ones who let us down. I agree with a lot of this. Hitting was the strength of the '08 team but we decided to take out productive hitters like Willingham and Jacobs and a good bat off the bench like Gonzalez and replaced them with a light hitting 3B, a very raw super athlete and a so-called professional hitter.

Anyone think because a manager get toss he is still not running the team, he is always in the hallway givings orders. Not always sir. Not at all. Some guys just go back to their office, some guys stay in the hall, and some guys dress up in a disguise and return. According to our TV announcers Fredi calls the shots whne he gets tossed.

The Most Preposterous Things Said From Baseball People
DRays at Baltimore earlier this week, bottom of the 9th, DRays up by about 5 runs. O's hit back to back homers so now it's about a 3 run game. When the guy hits the 2nd homer hall of famer Jim Palmer says something to the effect that a walk would have being better than the homer.

"Kid" who caught Chris' first career HR
The press reports from the beat reporters only gave Coglan's side. The reporters were to lazy or incompetent to get both sides. That's to be expected coming from them. I think the majority of the people who read both sides and are not Marlins fans think Coglan is an asshole.

Blame Uggla, Cody, and Nolasco
What are BGBs?

Blame Uggla, Cody, and Nolasco
The bench gets overlooked but they also deserve some blame. Fredo, Carroll and both "Professional Hitters" have stunk.

"Kid" who caught Chris' first career HR
The guy posted his story and is blasting Coghlan. http://thehappyyoung...iller_park.html I don't see the anomisity towards this fan/ballhawk. He did nothing wrong, imo. Asking for two bats and a couple of tickets isn't obsurd demands by any stretch of the imagination.... I don't get it either, and he only asked for tickets after they didn't give him the Ramirez bat... I mean the guy is probably a jerk, he goes around catching game balls for a living apparently, but asking for what he did at first, a Coghlan bat and a Ramirez bat is not too much in my opinion. I don't get it either. He asked for something resonable. The bashing of the guy is ridiculous.

The Marlins need an outfielder
Randy winn hasn't had a decline phase to speak of. From 28-31 Randy Winn's OPS+ was 114 but from 32-35 his OPS+ is 97. In my opinion Randy Winn's numbers disagree with you. By my count he had one bad season and two right at his average for his career. Not a huge decline. Let's stop pretending this is anything other than a hermida fan and a hermida detractor trying to prove their point by looking at the same numbers two ways. I think he'll improve, you apparently think the player he is at 25 (103 ops+) will be who he is for the rest of his career. It's been this way for a while. I think for a while he'll probably be a better than 103+ and then as he declines he'll be worse than 103+. Whwn all is said and doen he'll be around 103+, I think.

BJ Upton
http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/prosp...s/all-time.html Both made it as high as No. 2 in the top prospects ranking. Justin in '06 and BJ in '04. I would go with Justin because of his power.

The Marlins need an outfielder
Hermida is 25. Winn's numbers include the tail end of his career. From 26-31 Winn's OPS+ was 110. My guess is Hermida will do something along those lines from 26-31. So unfortunately I see him more like Randy Winn 2.0 than Brian Giles 2.0.

The Marlins need an outfielder
Just notice that Hermida hass been nearly the same hitter as Abreu this year, FWIW, in terms of OBP and SLG. Yesterday I noticed, FWIW, that career wise Hermida has virtually the exact numbers as Randy Winn as far as OBP, SLG, OPS and OPS+. Winn - .346 .424 .770 102 Hermida - .345 .430 .775 103

General Cameron Maybin Discussion
How do prospects like Maybin that are prone to a lot of groundballs and a lot of strikeouts translate to MLB? I assume a lot fewer groundballs become hits at the MLB level than in the minors so my guess is probably not too good.

Things that need to happen for this team to be successful
Uggla needs to have balls fall in Ross needs to hit his customary .800+ OPS Nolasco needs to be solid Bonifacio needs to visit New Orleans Has some law been passed now that makes it illegal to not hate Emilio Bonifacio? Jeez, the amount of hate he gets here in relationship to the real slumpers like Uggla, Hermida, Ross & Nolasco is totally disproportionate. The guy's obviously improving (4 for 9 in Milwaukee) but it's still a case of "Send Bonifraudio/Bonifacio(ut) to New Orleans cos he's like the worst player ... like ... ever". Some people need to grow up. My problem with Bonifacio is that he stole the leadoff spot from Maybin after Maybin hit .500 there in September. In an ideal world, Maybin would have started the season hitting leadoff, produced to a respectable level .260-.270 and either Gaby Sanchez or Chris Coghlan would be playing at 3B, with Bonifacio on the bench as a utility player. He's doing as well as could be expected. He's a light hitting midget middle infielder that should be hitting 8th. It's not his fault the manager put him in whta is generally a power position (3B) leading-off. Just because the manager is a dummy doesn't mean his expectations should change. Also, Maybin had more than half his plate appearances leading-off or hittign second so the "he's hitting 8th getting nothing to hit" excuse doesn't fly.

Sabermetric thought on our boy Danny Uggs
I forget the exact number but the babip of line drives is about .730. Infield flies do have a negative impact on the babip but not as much as I originally thought because the babip of all fly balls is only about .150. For my Uggla estimate I assumed the babip of infield flies was .000 just because I couldn't find any estimates anywhere and I can't see how any or too many infield flies become hits.
-
What's the deal with Uggla?
Wow, after a closer look at Uggla's numbers it looks to me like his BABIP should be in the .290s and his BA should be in the .240s. "Bad luck" exists.. in this case.. 20% into the season.

What's the deal with Uggla?
I'm terrible with that kind of stuff. I couldn't say. I'm a baseball fan, not an accountant. But that has nothing to do with saying we should get rid of him NOW. Start bracing yourself because we'll probably get rid of him either by the deadline or the off-season.

What's the deal with Uggla?
Is there anywhere that has a list of the players with the most outs caught on the warning track? I'm guessing Uggla would be pretty high up on that list. Try that: http://florida.marlins.mlb.com/stats/indiv...&statType=1

What's the deal with Uggla?
Uggla is hitting the ball fine,I'm not worried about him,he will start finding the holes... Whats driving me nuts is Hermieda,Ross,Bonifacio, and who ever else plays in the place of Maybin.... Our offense sucks...i've been saying it since January that our offense was going to be a major problem this season.... Ross=4th outfielder on any good team Bonifacio=Backup SS,2b,3b if he's lucky Hermieda=time to give up on this project,he needs to be traded,he has been given every chance to prove himself and failed, time to move on... Helms=Great guy of the bench, should not be starting, happy he's back to the bench Our pitching also has its issues but we have been hurt by injuries so we cant complain to much... Ross = had an OPS over .800 last season and a .792 OPS as a Marlin. He was 12th of 26 CF in OPS and was one of the best defensive CF in baseball. Bonifacio = I agree Hermida = I don't agree. He has a ridiculous OBP of .383 right now. There's more to offensive production than OBP. His SLG is terrible for a corner OF and his overall production is below average for a corner OF. The bottom line is Hermida has to improve his overall production. I'm not arguing he's been incredible. I'm arguing that saying we need to get rid of him is wrong or that reason. Assuming he maintains his current production for the rest of the year what would be his arbitration salary next year? About $4 million? I wouldn't pay it. Would you?

Plate Discipline Stats?
I guess it depends on the count. With two strikes you should be swinging at a tough strike. With a 3-0 or 2-0 count you probably shouldn't swing at it. As a general rule I think it's not a good thing to not swing at a much higher percenatge of strikes than the average player.

What's the deal with Uggla?
Someone should calculate what his babip would be using historical babip percentages for LDs, FBs, IFFBs and GBs to add some clarity to this debate.
