Marlins and the AS Game
Well, whoever makes it for the Marlins better get at least 1 at-bat. I'm sure everyone remembers the Golden Boy getting 3 at-bats last season and Miggy getting 0.

With apologies to Marlins2003, here are tonight's lineups
Well, having Ramirez bat ahead of Cabrera favors Hanley more so than Cabs, no doubt. He will most definitely get pitches to hit, even with a hobbled Miggy.

What is Fredi thinking?
What was Fredi's strategy in walking Langerhans? A force-out?

Update please.
I highly doubt Anibal misses a start, but who knows? Last I read he ran Sunday and felt nothing. It was just some cramping that he says he will remedy by drinking more water. I'm more concerned with Cabs. Yea, that big bash Sunday was a thing of beauty, but he isn't running well. On the other hand, watching him make those throws Monday night he looked okay. And he has adopted that Gary Sheffield trot to 1B whenever he hits a ground ball. He didn't look good at all at the plate last night. I'm concerned about Cabs as well. With the exception of the blast on Sunday, he hasn't done anything in the last 6 games or so that he's played. And his at-bats have consisted of lots of pop-ups and groundouts, very un Cabrera-like. I remember reading the other day that he said he's being careful running, which explains his jogging to first base. He also mentioned Sunday that he's "almost 100%". I sure hope so. ETA: I hope Cabs is in a slump, and it's nothing else.

Update please.
Welcome back, Holly. I was wondering where you were! Uggla had 2 homers yesterday (including an upper-deck shot) and Cabs hit one to the upper deck as well.

WQAM dumps Fish: Marlins Radio Co. open for business
Why does WQAM have a beef with the Marlins anyway?

Injury Updates and interesting Willis/Fredi quotes
For those who saw the game today... was Cabs grimacing at all after his swings? Even with the monster HR, that injury still worries me a bit.

Like Pujols, Cabrera headed for brilliant career
2009, Cabrera inks 10.5 million dollar deal with the cardinals for 10 years after being pursued by Pujols!!!! Cabrera is looking at a least 18 million The Marlins should have signed Cabs long-term after the 2005 season. Now they're looking at a $180-200M player.

What's up with our injuries
I know I'm gonna get blasted for this, but I've been playing ball since I was four years old, that's about twenty years, and of course I'm not comparing myself to these guys, but I know what it feels like to have a strained muscle or a bruised thumb. And I agree with vinive, these guys need to toughen up. I see cabrera in the dug out laughing and horsing around when he should be out there playing. I haven't forgotten that these guys play 162 games, but come on...suck it up. Even though championships aren't won in April, we can definately fall out of the race for good. We need these guys in the game. I completely agree with Gonzalez not playing Cabrera these past 2 games. Cabs wanted to play yesterday (Friday) and there's no doubt he wanted to be in the game tonight, but why take the chance? We're only 3 weeks into the season. Wouldn't you rather see Cabrera miss 3 games and heal completely rather than play this weekend and end up reinjuring himself and being out a month? Remember: Pujols missed a whole bunch of time last year with a similar injury and Mike Hampton is expected to be out for a while as well. It's just not worth it. If the Marlins were in September, Cabrera would be playing no doubt. This was the manager's decision and it's a good one.

Updates on our wounded
Does anyone know when the starting lineups are announced? Curious whether Cabs will be in there.

Supreme Court: No Partial Birth Abortions
While I'm surprised that the Court didn't care whether or not the health exemption was in there, PBA is pretty horrific. I have zero problems with this being illegal. Juanky, The problem with the "health exception" is it could be anything: depression, a headache, etc. George Tiller, an abortionist in Kansas, does more partial-birth abortions than anyone in the country. I've done some research on him, and he pretty much does them for any reason. In fact, he's never performed one to save the physical well-being of the mother; all have been mental health exceptions.

Supreme Court: No Partial Birth Abortions
I know many feel this ruling is a slippery-slope toward eventually overturning Roe v Wade. But how about partial-birth abortion as a slippery-slope toward infanticide?

Updates on our wounded
The list keeps growing. Cabs is on it now too. I wonder how much more we can handle. After losing 5 straight games I do not think we can hold much longer. I'm hoping/thinking that Cabs injury is not very serious. It is obviously something they knew about ;he was a game time decision and he probably thought he could play through it. If it is serious though and Cabs is out for an extended period of time- this team is Washington Nationals level bad. Thought I read someplace that Cabs hurt that side during an AB Wed night?? I was wondering why he tried to lay down a bunt last night. I watched him go into the dugout and Fredi was talking to him. At the time I figured Fredi was asking him what the heck was that all about, you don't take the bat out of your sluggers hands. When he didn't take the field I figured he was hurting some from the previous night. Did TV say anything different?? Bob, I read on FloridaMarlins.com that Cabs injured it initially during the Houston series (possibly explains his poor at-bats) and tweaked it on Wed. against the Mets. I would sit out Miggy this whole Washington series if he isn't 100%. It's too early in the season to take a chance on your star player. The last thing we need is for Miguel to have a nagging injury that affects his batting. Even though he does pretty decently against the Nationals. :shifty ETA: Even more reason for the Marlins to be cautious with Cabs. Didn't Pujols suffer from a right oblique strain last season and had to be put on the DL?

Is anyone watching the no hitter going on?
I wasn't sure where to post this question, and I didn't want to start a new thread. Any news on Cabrera's apparent side injury?

Julio gotta go
I remember Hanley being erratic last season defensively, but also making some spectacular plays. ETA: I'm amazed that Hanley's being criticized so much for his defense... 12 games into the season.
-
Offensive struggles...
I think Cabs is showing just how important he is to this team. If he's not on, the offense doesn't click. But Miggy is the type of hitter who goes through very short dry spells, then comes out blazing again. Rarely does he go into any "real" slumps.
-
Julio gotta go
'''There is a point in time [to sit down with him], but I'm not there yet,' said Marlins manager Fredi Gonzalez, who added he would continue to run Julio out there to build his confidence." -- Miami Herald This is getting ridiculous. The guy is not doing his job. It's demoralizing to his teammates. He's had numerous chances. How is bringing him into these games helping his confidence? Send him down to the minors & have him work out his problems there, instead of in games that count. In the meantime, we have a lot of young arms in the bullpen who have looked solid so far.

Issues Needing to be Addressed
Gregg should have been pulled after the second walk, I felt like jumping off a cliff after the Uggla/Borchard misplay, and Cabs is actually human.

Borowski blasts South Florida fans
YES! I love it when ex players do this... Now I am going to RIP the scumbag when he comes down here to play this season.. Show him what kind of fans show up to the ballgame... And he'll be able to hear you because you will only have around 8,000 people around you IN THE ENTIRE STADIUM, thereby making his point! Get over it folks, accept reality and move on. Enough with these stupid attendance threads! No doubt he'll be able to hear me, thats why I'll enjoy doing it.. I know that we have an attendance problem, Im there everynight... We all could count them by hand.. The fact is that he's in CLE now, he has no business in mentioning us anymore... The scum needs to move on and "close" games for his new team.. I hope we light him up Exactly.

Marlins interested in Jose Capellan
Does anyone else out there feel comfortable with the bullpen we have (excluding Julio)?

Braves Series
Miggy matches up well against most of Atlanta's pitchers. Out of the ones we are facing: Redmond -- 2/4 (2 doubles), 4 RBI Davies -- 6/11, 1 HR, 3 RBI Hudson -- 9/21, 2 doubles, RBI

Joe Borchard
Can Amezaga play right? It would be nice to have him and Hanley in the starting lineup.

Thoughts After Week 1
Definitely agree with that one. Not only 40+ jacks, but also a very high average... .350ish. The key, of course, will be for Willy and Jacobs to protect him so he can see some good pitches to hit. I really think Miguel could hit around .350 also this year. Cabs attributed his success thus far on the hitters around him, and therefore says he's getting good pitches to hit. Considering Cabrera hit .339 last season without any protection, if Jacobs and Willingham are threats with the bat, look out.
