Admirable qualities in an man, loyal to his own convictions and valuing his integrity over his paycheck. However, the downfall of many a manager in every sport before him and many more after him.

I feel comfortable saying this now, considering it's been months - but there truly were two different Jose's. The public face the franchise and he pushed and the one where the camera's weren't rolling and he was left to be his own man and not the show in the middle of the party. The man in his more intimate moments and how he treated those who can do nothing for him is a sharp contrast from the persona we all loved and adored. He would have left for the highest dollar, but Loria- in all this grief, has shown he would have put up a legitimate fight. That, at least, is comforting. In the end, it was Jose's decision to not accept or to accept any contract offered. Whatever his reasons were- I'm sure they were coming from a place of greed and arrogance, rather than a place of hedging his bets and securing his family and it's legacy. I'm with you, not to be a dick but I see this as revisionist history. Jose was a part of the community because he was drafted here. There are 10 teams he could sign with that would have access to water, and one with deep pockets that would covet him- the Dodgers. Never mind all that though, a young man passed doing what he loved in a city that adored him. I don't understand the need to make this a bigger tragedy than this is for a already depressed franchise and fan base. He may have wanted to stay here, but he may have never got an offer he would have liked.

What GM responsibilities is he missing over the next month? He won't be trading, too soon for free agency, and there's a moratorium on roster moves during each playoff round. Make him a catcher. NFL career ended early because he wasn't a typical passer/quarterback. Shame too. He led a team to the playoffs and a playoff upset. He shouldn't have been cast away so soon but "typical" quarterbacks are what teams want. No one wants the risk. I think he's a better option than 5 or 6 teams quarterbacks right now to be honest, as far as winning is concerned. Didn't really care for him, but he really got a raw deal when Broncos signed Manning. He never got a chance to prove he wasn't a fluke, and everyone assumes he was.
