  1. 17th in OPS isn't that impressive, considering there's only 73 stat qualified players in the FSL. I'm not saying he's not doing well, but .800 in the FSL doesn't scream big prospect. I guess I don't really have an affinity for big slugging guys with 1 main skill who don't have a spot in the field. He's had a decent season, but nothing more than that. Definitely a disappointment from last years stop in Greensboro, although it was halfway expected by many. I agree though, he could get a promotion, but only because he's 24 and needs to get busy as I'm guessing he's going to need at least a year and half in AA.
  2. I am seriously not concerened with who said what, I'm just seriously amped about Hermida's July, that's all. I know a lot of people see a lot in Hermida, and have believed in him through all of this growth. It's just awesome to see Hermida going at it the way he is... Hanley, Miguel, Hermida, Hammer
  3. 2/4 2b now in Jupiter Thanks Ramp, I almost forgot this thread was about De Aza I don't know who I feel about this, but De Aza is surprising me and playing very well (at least stat wise) since he's been back.
  4. Saying that Hermida was going to improve was really going out on a limb. Congrats. That's why I was completely astounded when people were so blatantly bashed for saying so...
  5. July Line for Herms: .351 / .440 / .571 / 1.111 Not to mention: Line on June 30th: .188 / .286 / .341 / .627 Line on July 30th: .262 / .352 / .453 / .805
  6. If he doesn't get bought now, he won't until the offseason... even then, now is definitely the time.

Mitre and Gregg, regression to the mean is a bitch. Dontrelle pitched great, I think he bought himself the rest of the year here. Rest of the team is enjoyable, but man oh man, to just continue to shrug your shoulders at this as an organization is frustrating. If, just hypothetically, we come back from this road trip 0-7, and no one loses their job, that's sending the completely wrong signals to the team. It can't be validated. Or just bought us an extra minor leaguer...
  8. Hermida needs time, he needs ABs; if you don't believe he has the stuff to be more than a quality everyday major leaguer than I know I won't be able to convince you, but just glance at these stats if you will... First off, with RISP Jeremy has a .904 OPS -- that's better than any Marlin not named Miguel Cabrera Also, the most telling stat that Hermida will grow significantly with more ABs is this... vs Pitcher 1st time in Game; .185 / .310 / .296 / .606 -- dreadful I know, but... vs Pitcher 2nd time in Game; .339 / .367 / .518 / .885 -- and the rare times he sees a pitcher a 3rd time (42 ABs), he has a 952 OPS The more time Jeremy spends in the majors, the better he will get. He's just now wrapping up a full season, and I know he gets more grace than anyone on this board, but it is because he is so special. We need to let him get there.
  9. Yeah, definitely don't bunt. Olivo had about the same chance to knock a double as he did a double play.
  10. Yeah, he has picked up in some areas, but 2B is growing as a much stronger position than most will give it credit for. Uggla is definitely adequate, but not the All Star some claim him to be. While his power numbers have increased, he leads the league for second basemen in SO's by a looong way (over 30 SO's from the next guy), and his OBP is suffering, which worries me for his future.
  11. I really hope Treanor doesn't start everyday I'm probably one of the few, but he's just on a nice hot streak.... he should come back to Earth soon (imo of course) I'm with you, Ramp... I will be the first to admit, Treanor has been decent recently, but there is not one logical part of his baseball career that suggests he should even be in the majors, much less 4 games a week. I'm okay with seeing Treanor once, maybe twice a week... but that's it. I mean it took the guy 8 years to get to AA Ball, and 11 years to find major league action. He has never been a good catcher at any level, and there's no reason the majors should be any different.
  12. Uggla is one of a select few who was a selection to the rule. Because Uggla turned out to be good after a Rule V pickup, doesnt automatically mean De Aza will be. Using 33 and 30 at bats to say De Aza deserves a spot and Carrol doesnt is ludicrous. That's what I was meaning.... I agree completely. 96% of Rule V draftees will never seriously make an impact on a MLB roster. Uggla is kind of an exception to the rule, but even he was only an exception for a year or so. He is declining, and I believe he will continue to do so, hopefully he can prove me wrong. Maybe De Aza can also be an exception to the rule, but Carroll does deserve a shot as well, if De Aza gets one. I mean in all reality both of them have done below average in their minor league careers, but both of them tend to have monster Spring Trainings. I don't think either of them have a shot, but what else can we do without a trade, I suppose... BC had 7 ST at bats.... with 4 hits... but it's not like they even gave him a shot to have a monster ST He had 11 ABs this year, and 14 the year before... but yeah still not much of a shot. He is 12 for 25 in career ST.
  13. De Aza went 1 for 1 today with an RBI and a BB... That's right De Aza's GCL OPS is sitting at a perfect 2.000! (please detect my sarcasm)

  15. I don't see what the big love affair is with Ross. He's okay as a bench player, but his career numbers aren't all that great. Neither were his numbers last year with us. He started out hot this year but his numbers are going down to where they have been year after year. De Aza is the better defensive player, hits lefties very well, runs the bases more like Amazega, and has far more potential than Cody has. Cody has more power but De aza causes far more distraction on the base paths, which is a big plus that isn't very often appreciated by the casual fan, or fans that watch all/most games in front of their TVs. I like Cody but De Aza is just the better all around choice. De Aza is a rule V pickup that has never been that great at any level. Cody Ross destroys LHP, so your point there is errant. Not saying De Aza is bad, but the people on this board have been overrating him to a very high degree for months now. So, was Uggla... and I don't really like Uggla, and I think we've seen the best we could ever ask of him. I would guess this to be the same situation with De Aza. Let him prove it for at least a quarter of a season at AA before we give him the crown.

  17. I was wondering how long it would take for everyone to start boarding the Uggla train again...
  18. Andino time?
  19. Once again... this is one of the worst Marlin seasons I can remember.

Actually, he did just dislocate his shoulder on the 2nd pitch of his 1st AB.... awesome. We don't know what it is, but that sure is what it looked like. They'll pop it back, he'll be in the lineup tuesday. Apparently you haven't been watching the Marlins this year and how they deal with injuries. Hanley isn't coming back until he's 100%. Just like JJ, huh?

  22. Mildren started out very well this year, then started to struggle, went to the DL, and has been pretty mediocre to dreadful since his return. He doesn't allow a lot of hits, but Benched is right, his BB to K is horrible, and it's getting worse.
  23. I don't think Barone is as good as his record induces, but maybe for a short stint he could adequeatly fill in for the rotation. You never really know until they get there. Nearly every rotation guy at Alb. is just organization filler with 5 + ERAs, so Barone might end up being the only option. From a perspective such as this, I hate Isotopes Park. Yeah, you can attribute some of that disappointment to Isotopes Park, but a lot of these guys have never been that solid, and are lengthening their careers on 1 or 2 standout seasons in A+ or AA ball. Fulchino has always been pretty solid, and I think Kenny Baugh still has a career ahead of him. He's 28 years old, but a former 1st round pick and has always put up good numbers before he got hurt. He is starting to come back now, he might also be worth a short run nod.

  25. Let's just throw in Jeff Allison and Matt Dominguez's Uncle, and the Red Sox could send us a new stadium in return.
