Miggy
i love miguel cabrera. he has 5 errors so far this year and he's obviously got his issues with eating and fielding. they're saying that the move is coming also because edgar's range is decreasing. i guess everyone knew this was coming at some point in his career, but already? were the tigers thinking more like it was definitely gonna happen at some point this season? i would love to know what they thought about his defense and position on the field when they signed him to that deal. thoughts on this? (this belongs in the florida marlins forum, not the major league baseball)

Little funny quote in PBP
That attendance figure is pretty anemic, but I doubt we'd get 8,400 here to watch us play the Pirates. April 4 vs. Pirates: 10,089 April 5 vs. Pirates: 15,752 April 6 vs. Pirates: 10,431 ...and in 2007 there was... June 26 vs. Pirates: 11,044 June 27 vs. Pirates: 11,222 June 28 vs. Pirates: 31,628 Hmm, it looks we got more than 8,400 here to watch us play the Pirates in 2007 and 2008. (Source: ESPN.com) june 28, 2007? can somebody elaborate? and that quote is great

4/20 Mets @ Phillies
Meh...was this worthy of a thread? :confused It's April 20th. No team is looking at the playoff picture right now. Right now, I really only care about our games. I start scoreboard watching around late-July / August, if we're in it. absolutely not.

What Ever Happened to a Platoon at Catcher?
BTW: just to quickly defend Minaya, who I think gets underrated by most fans, but I like most of his signings and trades with the Mets. -Jon Maine for Kris Benson -Signed Beltran -Traded our favorite closer Jorge Julio for Orlando Hernandez -Got Oliver Perez for Xavier Nady -Signed David Wright long term to a great deal -Has built a very good bullpen and one of the best lineups in the league Was the Bannister trade bad? Yep. Lindstrom > Vargas + Bostick Yep. But what else has he done that is so awful? signing players is not difficult to do when the franchise essentially prints its own money relative to what Admin and co. have to work with. and what has he done that's so good?

What Ever Happened to a Platoon at Catcher?
Why the idol worship for Beinfest, he's a good GM, but he's as fallible as any other GM in the game and he's probably a top 5-10 GM... but seriously... don't put him above people that deserve proper credit proper credit? The guy has less than a 20 million dollar payroll to work with, this year because owner, Jeffrey Loria isn't willing to spend money, until the stadium deal is done. What are you talking about? The fact that this team actually goes out and makes games close (much less win), is an accomplishment, to begin with. The payroll is a joke, yet Beinfest has put a team together, that is at least competitive in games. The FEW times he had a solid payroll to work with, included 2003...the Marlins won the World Series that year. :notworthy :notworthy

What Ever Happened to a Platoon at Catcher?
My memory is telling me that hanley2 might have been the person who made up some encounter with Beinfest last season so he clearly loves the guy. that is correct, except that i didn't make it up. it is still the greatest moment of my time on earth.

What Ever Happened to a Platoon at Catcher?
He motivated the team managers to stick with Abercrombie and Olivo. Not only did he bring back Olivo but he handed him a sum of money so questionable he probably should have taken him to arbitration. He could have gotten much better talent for Derrek Lee, even if the trade was a salary dump. The only trade after the firesale I would consider the be a success would be the Boston trade and perhaps to a lesser extent the Chicago trade. We practically got nothing back for Luis Castillo. I've got confidence in Maybin/Miller but I would still argue that the jury is still out on that trade as well. ok, you're right, but overall, with the resources available, you have to say beinfest has done a pretty excellent job in his time here. how about the juan pierre trade to col? signing pudge?

When does it make sense to think about adding a veteran arm?
I am a big fan of the front office, but you can't have it both ways -- either they misjudged how inept the back end of the rotation would be, or they assumed the rest of the team would equally be a disaster and it wouldn't matter. Now there is no one to get and it unfortunately could sour what could be a good season. can we get through april at least. miller and badenhop have been garbage and you gotta hope they improve. miller at least gets through 5 now. if not, volstad and gaby will get the call. but it's not as if there's someone available for cheap thats gonna come in here and go 7 strong every start.

Beinfest's decision making? Give examples of this. i mean, every decision he's made since he started in 2002, except for the disaster fiasco that you have chosen as your sig.

What Ever Happened to a Platoon at Catcher?
and...why does that lead to the conclusion that he's better than Admin? Because he has a better eye for young talent. Just because he has a high payroll to work with doesn't mean he doesn't know talent. i'll take fleming's and jennings' eye for talent, maybe with a sprinkle of al avila's (with detroit), and beinfest's decision making over cashman or minaya any time.

What Ever Happened to a Platoon at Catcher?
And he's not the best GM in the league. Who is in your mind, then? I'm no penguino, and my opinion doesn't matter, but in no order: Billy Beane Dave Dombrowski Theo Epstein John Schuerholz (yea and Beinfest isn't really our GM either...so don't say it.) Brian Cashman Omar Minaya Kevin Towers That's a disgrace. You should be ashamed for typing those names.

When does it make sense to think about adding a veteran arm?
Why do you people even think about questioning Admin BEINFEST ......I think he has proven to us that the man knows what he is doing...... Just stop questioning the man, hes a GENIUS :notworthy :notworthy :notworthy :notworthy :notworthy :notworthy :notworthy :notworthy :notworthy :notworthy :notworthy :notworthy :notworthy :notworthy :notworthy :notworthy :notworthy therefore, it makes sense to add a veteran arm when Admin and his other genius friends (mikey hill, fleming, & jennings) in the front office decide it's time to. do you think they're not aware that they could add a veteran arm at this late point in the season (obscene level of sarcasm)?
