  1. Seems like a microcosm of the series. The cadillac vs the ford. I wouldn't think Las Vegas is picking Redman. But the Marlins sure have had some fun games against lefties this season. And they're on a roll.
  2. Of course they can. They are the Yankees. But I wouldn't suggest they would be comfortable there.
  3. There's absolutely NO WAY in the world you take out your season long shortstop in the world series, unless he can't play defense for some reason. That would be the same as saying not starting Redman because he only has one hit this season. Not only is there not another player on this team that can make some of the plays Gonzo makes look routine, but I don't think there's another in the league. I'm not against replacing him in the future, ...it is frustrating to see him continue to swing at the same non strike curve ball outside, in the dirt, time after time, ...after time again. But he is more than making up for it on defense. He provides the defensive "swagger" that wouldn't be present in his abscence. I think the best we can hope for, is that the Yankees pitchers don't really believe how easy it is to get him to swing at that same pitch. Remember, when the NL threw him fastballs earlier in the season he was was hitting .330, with pop.
  4. I plan to start worrying about what's going to happen NEXT YEAR, right after the world series is over. In the meantime, if you're a Marlins fan, why would you be anywhere else but in the moment? This is the moment you do all the worrying and cheering for. Stay right here, right now. It doesn't happen that often.
  5. Absolutely. Knowing the pitchers is the significant part. Just like the Yankees will be very familiar with Redman.
  6. They weren't availbable online either. Not very many. Most of the tickets were presold to corporations, brokers, etc. Wealthy, hooked up people. That's pretty much the way it works in this country. They allowed a few of the nose bleed seats to trickle through the interenet and a few at the stadium, but not many. They were all sold out for all three games in about twenty minutes. That's not very many tickets is it? The worst part is they didn't really let everyone know, and wasted countless man hours letting us chace the carrot on the stick.
  7. There are more question marks than answers right now. I dont think making the World Series has solved the financial problems so I think there will be several changes. My guess is Encarnacion will go. Lee will go. Castillo will go. Pudge will go too. I don't know the exact situation of the rotation, as far as contracts go, but I'm wondering if Redman will be back. It's an awful lot to ask to have AJ back, especially early. I'm pretty sure Urbina is a rent a player, as well as Chad Fox. These are probably necessary adjusments because the Marlins are on a limited budget. Just as they were this year. LeBatard has already dropped the "D" word in a damning with faint praise article he wrote last week. I emailed him about it, and he told me to "buck up". But we all know that his position was established early to be a Marlins basher. This success must be killing him.
  8. We took the suggestion of one of the Cubs fans who posted here, and opened four seperate virtual waiting rooms, on DSL, with a very fast computer, plus I worked two different phones, redialing nonstop. The tickets were all gone in twenty minutes, for all three games. We never got through. Hardly anybody who lined up at the stadium got tickets, and the few that did, were only able to get nose bleeders. Since it takes several minutes to process each order, and you couldn't buy more than six per order, if you do the math, it's pretty evident there were only a handful of tickets available anyway. Just enough to avoid public outrage that our tickets were sold long ago. The brokers had specific seats listed a couple of days prior to them going on sale. I haven't heard of anybody so far, that bought infield tickets through ticket master. The average fan had NO CHANCE.
  9. Just his feelings.
  10. the season Why do you take out Pavano? Because Pavano has a history of blowing up after six innings or so. You consistently get five, but he hits the wall soon thereafter. It's pretty hard to question anything McKeon does at this point. He's made so many moves that worked, that he would be due one that didn't. I questioned pitching Uggie in the 8th with Looper warmed up, with a five run lead. WHy not let Looper try to close it out, and save Uggie for tomorrow? Well, I guess Jack decided not to take any chances, and stomp 'em out when he could. Plus, he has Johnny Wholestaff for tonight. I guess he knows what he's doing.
  11. I think that will happen - in fact, I think that this team is going to be more intact than we initially thought... I don't think so. With Castro ready to play the money will be better spent elsewhere. The financial picture hasn't changed very much. But I certainly intend to enjoy him while he's still here.
  12. Definetly. A wonderful performance by Pavano and should get a start if we go to the World Series. I'd say he took Penny's spot away from him.
  13. All the pressure is on the Cubs. They were playing tighter than a two dollar watch last night. I can only imagine how tight they will be tonight. They will playing not to lose, and the Marlins will be loose. It should be interesting.
  14. I agree. For one thing, it was at least three fans who were trying to catch that ball. Just like anybody else would. It's easy enough to say you'd get out of the way, but there's a safety factor involved too. If you see a pop up coming down at you, you have to be thinking about protecting yourself. They didn't reach out over the field and steal away a hit, or a home run. They tried to catch a foul ball in the stands. The only curse I see is the one of the "scapegoat". BTW, that attitude of blaming someone for the loss is the mark of a loser, not a champion.
  15. Actually, I thought it was pretty much a typical Willis outing. He was right around the plate early, and wan't getting close pitches called strikes. Whenever that happens, he doesn't do well. When he has to throw it right over the plate, he gets hit hard. For some reason there is a different stike zone in the playoffs than the regular season. Especially for a rookie. Willis wasn't getting the low strike he is used to getting, and then he wasn't getting either corner. When he has to throw it up over the heart, it's all over. After a couple of batters he knew it was going to be tough. Then the nerves set in. He must have felt like there wasn 't anyplace to throw the ball.
  16. There's just no substitute for experience. These guys have come a long way this season, and are the main reason we're here in the first place. It's not surprising they are struggling, this is all new territory. Plus they all keep saying it doesn't make any difference that there's 67000 people screaming instead of 6,000. But , of course it does. Hat's off to these guys for a great season, no matter what happens tonight. BTW I'll be there in the cheap seats , it's all I could get with all those Cubs fans crowding the internet ticket sales. What a gaff that was not to limit sales to local zip codes.
  17. tell me again why DLee is batting cleanup? *waits for the hole speihl(sp?) on his 30hr, 20sb, good obp story* Because we really don't have a clean up hitter. DLee did ok in the 6 hole, which is where he belongs. He doesn't have that killer instinct of a 4 hitter. Lowell did a pretty good job there when he was healthy, until the all star break, but struggled after that. Cabrera is the closeset thing to a clean up hitter on the team right now, but you can't stick a 20 year old kid in the 4 hole. Can you? Hmmm....maybe if your back is to the wall. Or maybe stick Conine back in there. At least he's hitting.
