How to correctly use $85 million that has been rejected twice?
Dummy? Keep it on level bud. Cubs had the 5th highest payroll, actually over 180m. Sure, middle of the pack. Never said Theo was lucky. He had a golden situation he parachuted into and to his credit he added the right mix of talent to the strong young core already there and won a WS. Good for him. Just don't see him as up on the Mount Rushmore of modern baseball executives.

Really tired of reading about the greatness of Theo. Those great draft picks that provided the foundation for the Cubs rise to the top preceded Theo. He came into a perfect situation leveraging the Cubs brand and 150M in payroll to have his pick of the litter of free agents who wanted to play in Wrigley for an emerging team playing in front of the most loyal and fervent fans in baseball. I can use my imagination but if making the trek its laughable to think Theo could make a champion out of the Marlins with the limited resources he would be given to work with. Working with a limited budget and no farm system, you could expect his reputation would invariably from predictable results be taking quite a hit, though perhaps not to bottom feeder Mike Hill levels.

Feliz and Ziegler? Maybe?
Very little chance of landing Ziegler, with 10 teams expressing interest in him. Bullpen depth will have to come from internal improvements/upgrades. Hammel and Fister need to be the focus. Heaven forbid this team actually go after a consistent power run producing bat (that's not Ozuna) or trade Ozuna for starting pitching.

Strong push for Chapman and Jansen coming
They better at least get Ziegler, who I really like, and go strong after Fister/Hammel. But with those acquisitions its still a 500 team at most, under the best of circumstances. Without adding a reliable big time run producing bat (EE!!!!!!!!!!!), still looking at a whole lot of games with four or less runs scored. which is not going too work to well with the SP staff we have.

Strong push for Chapman and Jansen coming
So hoping against hope this team comes to its senses, after losing Jansen which it will, hopefully, and then goes after EE, signs Ziegler and one of Hammer/Fister and trades some combination of Bour/Dietrich/Ozuna or even AJ for another 3/4 starter. Just seems like the obvious way to go.

Strong push for Chapman and Jansen coming
Chapman signs with Yanks. Jansen re-ups with LA. It's that easy.
-
A.J. Ellis signed
Locke, McGowan and Ellis all in one day! Can it get any better than this?
-
Strong push for Chapman and Jansen coming
With the Yanks, Dodgers and Nats in on Chapman and Jansen, very unlikely the Marlins will snag either one. Ziegler would be a nice get.

Edwin Encarnacion
I mentioned on this board going after Encarnacion two months ago and my sanity was questioned. Run production is a major problem with this team, Despite ample base runners the constant inability to get runners home has eaten away at this team for years. I would gladly package Bour with Dietrich or Ozuna to bring back pitching and let EE have 1st base. If Loria is prepared to spend then he can do so here. Most likely Jensen or Chapman will go elsewhere anyway.

Strong push for Chapman and Jansen coming
It's encouraging to see Loria upping payroll to possibly $115M, didn't expect it and I know its extremely easy to be cynical about why he's doing it and if he will do it, and if so will he do it wisely and of course why bother the team sucks without Jose and has no hope, but damn to root for this team I want it to be competitive, with some semblance of a realistic shot at post-season ball. Jansen or Chapman would be great, absent an arm blowout they're sure things to close out games with dominant track records. Wouldn't it be nice if we were the team having one for a change (don't mention the Capps give away, makes me sick). Wouldn't mind a KC type bullpen to shorten the game added to the guys we already have. But do this as long as the team adds at least one more decent starter, one of Hammel, Fister or Gray. Tyson Ross in addition deserves a look if Loria really wants to roll the dice big time. I don't care if they unload Ozuna as long as a proven 2/3 starter is coming back, but honestly don't see this happening and its hard to trust this front office to ensure it happens since they've proven to be royal fuckups. But whatever. I'm just as concerned about the miserable job this team did in producing runs from all the baserunners we had. We ended up sucking and blowing a winning record primarily for that reason. If Stanton doesn't have a monster year and stay healthy, we're fucked anyway.

Your off-season shopping spree
Bearclaw in the 6th Ramos in the 7th Capps in the 8th Jansen in the 9th Love it! Oh wait a second! We return you to your regularly scheduled Marlins programming. If this had been a team with an actual competent front office you would have been instructed to smile at the thought. Please refer to your regularly scheduled programming. Thank you and have a good day.

Marlins Double A Team Changing Name
I'm okay with this, depending upon the cocktail sauce. The Mayport shrimp up here is jumbo good, expect an expansion of the concession menu. Hope I don't get sick.

Report: Marlins Strategy To Acquire Pitching Could Involve Trading Gordon, Ozuna
Such depressing talk. If you all are thinking this team is not in a position to compete for five or more years, fuckin crazy talk, then unloading Stanton, throwing in the towel on any hope of keeping and expanding fan interest in this team and making sure attendance craters even more will kill this franchise.

2016 Playoffs
These games are awful, 4 to 5 hrs long with constant pitching changes. Ratings should be in the toilet.

Tim Tebow to tryout for MLB teams
Tim Tebow off to a decent start. 3 for 10 and now going to the Arizona Fall League. Good luck TT hope you can hang in there and maybe turn a few heads.

Fish of the Year
Hate to say anything negative in regard to Jose but he did disappoint on the road. As an everyday guy who kept the team afloat with Prado, I'd have to give Best Fish to Yellie.

10/2 - Marlins at Nationals - 3 PM
Brutal last two months to the season after so much hope. A winning record would have been nice but having to go against Rourke and Scherzer last 2 games knew we were going to get shut down.

Fernandez memorial Info
I work at home and live in Jacksonville, but was able to watch Jose's funeral streamed at the WSVN website. Watched every game this week, and the procession at Marlins Park yesterday. Just in a state of shock over this, I've been in tears all week. Can't imagine the pain his mother and grandmother are going though, and obviously all those who loved Jose, a universe apparently. And of course his life story, his heroism, his beautiful heart, his passion, his greatness on the field. At 24 with a lifetime ahead of him, just like that, gone. As just an ordinary fan, who has followed the team since its inception when I lived in South Florida, I just feel lucky to have experienced Jose Day on the big screen for the last 4 years. In my mind it was a day each week of the season when he was healthy that I circled and just looked forward to for the sheer pleasure of watching him perform and do his thing. I just loved his playfulness, his energy, his passion for the game and just his sheer dominance. We all know that Jose is irreplaceable. I hope somehow we'll still be able to compete for the playoffs in the forthcoming years, but this depends so much on what the front office does, Loria's budget, and other factors too numerous to cite. I admittedly on past performance wish I had more confidence in the future direction of this team, but hopefully management will pleasantly surprise. I will say, in the midst of this tragedy and the flow of tears, with how the team has so beautifully honored and showed their love for Jose, taken his family into their hearts, and exhibited their brotherhood on and off the field I've never been more proud to be a Marlins fan. I really hope the image painfully painted of them both locally and nationally somehow changes for the better.

Jose Fernandez dies in boating accident
I'll be watching Marlins baseball with an wounded heart for a long time. Jose made me smile and laugh more than any other player that's ever worn the Marlins uniform

Jose Fernandez dies in boating accident
Easily one of most devastating losses a team has ever suffered. The loss of Jose to the Marlins on so many different levels wiii be incalculable . So sad can't conceive of it.

Jose Fernandez dies in boating accident
Devastated. My stomach is churning . What more is there to say? Just an emptiness that will eminate from this team for a long time. Feel for Jose's mom and grandma. OMG.

Hill says no major changes needed
Didn't figure that Chen would pitch to a 5 ERA this year. That hurt.
-
Hill says no major changes needed
I feel confident in saying that no other GM in baseball would have made those San Diego trades.
-
Hill says no major changes needed
Injuries and Hill's trades sabotaged the season. Until the entire front office is fumigated and new ownership somehow surfaces I just see the playoffs as a distant dream.
