  1. As poor as their starting rotation is shaping up to look like, they'll need to quite often build a bridge to game end from the 5th or 6th inning on with stellar relief pitching. I would not deal Ramos or Capps.
  2. Harang's agent holding out for a multi year deal. Damn, what will it take to get this done?
  3. Well dah! Dodgers will have to bleed from the ass if they want to get him.
  4. Very good analysis, much appreciated. Have always thought and still think the chances of LA doing Seager, Urias, Pederson ++ are under 1%. If they can flip Puig to a team who would give them an asset the Marlins would be interested in, it might incrementally improve the chance of a deal occurring but I see Seager and Urias as necessary parts to any deal.
  5. The Braves haul for Miller absolutely validated the Marlins declaration to LA of what it would take to move Jose. If the Dodgers want Jose, they're going to have to bleed for it. Not a problem at all if they decide not to. I'd much rather keep him, only the best pitcher we've ever had and probably will ever have.
  6. Ah, Gallardo, he of the descending K rate.
  7. Seager/Urias/Pedersen/Holmes/Peraza For a generational talent like Jose, nothing less. And after the package the Braves got for Shelby Miller, Marlins need to hold their ground, tell the Dodgers to take a hike otherwise. Kind of like seeing the Dodgers sweat over this, knowing they've got a big void to fill and the DBacks making a big move, want to see how desperate they get.
  8. There is no team in baseball other than the Marlins that if they had Jose would even contemplate discussing trading him, 20 teams have called because the impression the Marlins are giving out is its open season, woo me. Well fuck them. I think Jose would eventually sign here if given a fair offer, and there will be revenue streams in 3 yrs time that will financially support the signing. But of course, Loria simply doesn't want to negotiate with Boras. It's out of his comfort zone. Glad the Mets lost out on Zobrist.
  9. Because even if Loria offers the most money, which is a dubious proposition to begin with, it would have to be at least 15% more than the next highest offer, to even try to convince anyone to play for him and that's not going to happen. The bad vibes from the Ozuna controversy and the rumors about an unhappy Fernandez will likely act as a negative influence as well.
  10. I like your optimism on this but I think you're kidding yourself. A week or more after the pool of decent SP dries up, you'll read Scoop write about the Marlins closing in on a deal with Harang.
  11. I never thought for a moment the Marlins would go after any free agent pitcher of consequence. Unfortunately, I also don't see any free agent with meaningful choices taking Loria's money. So get ready for whatever dregs are left.
  12. Seeing Happ go for 3/36, an absurdity, don't see this team signing any decent pitcher at all.
  13. Forget about Seattle. Ozuna and Cleveland's choice of any player from farm system other than Kolek for Carrasco. Get it done.
  14. Morons just keep demonstrating how tone death they are. Despise this front office. Loved Tommy, will miss him, made years of watching this sorry ass team tolerable and often entertaining. Had to vent. Dammit.
  15. Iwakuma should be targeted. Would be a pretty good pickup. No Colby Lewis, please.
  16. Apart from Kazmir, it just hurts to laugh, looking at that putrid list. Love that they feel no qualm in filling the rotation with Brian Moehler types, for those who remember. Yah, innings you'll get, extremely hittable types. 1.50 or so WHIPS and ERA' s in the high 4's, low 5's. Would rather just see them throw Conley, Nicolino, Flores, Urena, etc out there and screw the season. They're just wasting a pretty decent everyday lineup with this crap. Marlins are putting on a very good case, with these artificial budget constraints, that they care little about competing for post season play. I'm holding out forlorn hope that they surprise me.
  17. 1yr, 2M. It may be the Marlins only free agency signing. Haven't seen any MLB scribe predicting any top 40 free agent signing to Miami,
  18. Bauer, Fister and Cespedes. Welcome to the new era of Donny Ocho baseball. Ozuna, good luck with the Tribe. Good to see us solidifying our hold on 3rd in the NL East.
  19. Considering the season just had, I suppose one can't be taken back by the rampant cynicism that has taken hold of this board. Just hope that at some point during the offseason the Marlins do something constructive that starts to begin changing the tone around here. The Mattingly hire was fine with me but what the front office does with the starting pitching will tell the tale.
  20. Seems Loria has arranged for the World Series to end tonight.
  21. Lets see what Benedict does with Kolek.
  22. And picked off too! Can't take the batting and hits title away from Dee. Big accomplishment.
  23. BA numbers are solid, OPS creeping up. But the toxic mix of lots of ground balls, low extra base (doubles) performance and poor RISP performance has been consistent throughout the year and still largely remains a issue though getting slightly better. Team will be in the dumpster next year if this continues on into next year. A healthy year of Stanton and Bour, a far more productive Yelich and Ozuna and the subtraction of Ichiro will go a long way toward solving the problem.
  24. Yelich performance with RISP disappointing notwithstanding BA and OPS. Ozuna in the same boat. Part of why this team has sucked all year long in scoring runs. Bour and more recently Prado have been carrying the team in that area. Stanton will do the heavy lifting when he returns in 2016 but more dependable run producing from Yelich and Ozuna (or his replacement) is a dire need.
