what exactly is VP of Pitching? is he a coach or a FO guy that deals with pitchers?

he worked very closely with pirates pitching prospects (esp cole, taillon, glasnow) so imagine he'll do the same here. He's a really great addition. Very impressed with marlins on this one

From 2013 when he turned down the phillies: Benedict has made a big impact in Pittsburgh. He played a big role in re-working Charlie Morton and turning him into a sinkerball pitcher with a new arm slot. He also played a role with Francisco Liriano and Mark Melancon in their turnaro...

*raises hand*

um what pitching prospects?

thank god.  our pitching development has been horrendous. If we're not gonna change front offices these are the types of changes I would love.

Appears he's already hard at work, since the Marlins just picked up Richard Mitchell from the Pirates. He must've put in a good word. Though how many good words can you have for a 20 year old who has spent 3 years in rookie league and has pretty much a 1:1 k:walk ratio. But I do guess the Marlins have shown an affinity for those kinds of guys.

According to the Pirates GM, Benedict didn't just help improve their pitchers but their organization's pitching coaches as well. I found that interesting. I don't know if I've ever seen someone touted for basically "coaching the coaches." Pretty cool.
