  1. I personally think we will resign Castillo unless the bidding becomes excessive which wont considering todays market...Excessive offers can be expected on someone like Vlady but Castillo is not a player which is so good like A Rod that teams will overpay.
  2. Blockbuster only has for sale, not for rent
  3. Does anyone know any video store in S. Fl. thats renting the WS Marlins DVD?
  4. Go to Famous Ink Store In Dadeland Mall...they have the Marlins Team photos for $4 and plaques starting at $10 so total = $14
  5. D. Lee is not going to be your best hitter. He might be just as good as Ramirez batting (which had a great yr last yr) but where you will see where he stands out is in his defense. Hes a vacuum cleaner overthere at 1st base. We Marlins fans have gotten spoiled. I truly wish the best for him. BTW, we as fans cant say how good this trade will be until years have past bye but i think it will work out for both of us.
  6. Lets put it to rest...The Marlins got what they needed out of the trade and so did the Cubs...We both won in this deal...On a side note, i was thinking on how the Montreal Expos organization has effected both out teams for the better...We have one of the best organizations b/c of the migration from the Expos of several of their people and Hendry of the Cubs worked with the Marlins before ging to the Cubs
  7. Theres an article on Vlad. and how its going to be hard for him to try to get the big bucks this year which may help the Marlins sign him if Pudge decides to sign elsewhere. I dont have Insider. If someone who does can copy and paste in this thread i would appreciate it. Thanks!
  8. Someone had to go and im glad its Lee over Lowell, Castillo.
  9. Looper is set to make about 4.5 million theough sal arbit. and i think he will be non-tendered....the marlins will wait till market cools down a little to sign closer for about 3 million...and theres no was hollansworth will stay...he repeatedly has said he wants to be with a place where he has a chance of starting and thats not here....with the money we save by not signing Looper and Hollandsworth we can sign back Urbina and C. Fox can set up
  10. D. Baker didnt give Choi a far shot in Chicago...Marlins fans cant expect for Choi to be great from the get go be he will improve steadily
  11. D. Lee was going to the Orioles if he would've worked out a contract extension to his liking. MLB doesnt allow a player to negotiate w/ another team unless a trade has been reached tentatively.
  12. The article in the Baltimore Sun sounds like the marlins are going to give away Lee....as long as the "lower level" prospects they are talking about giving us involves Denny Bautista or Matt Riley im ok w/ it. Some guy in the Orioles board said that maybe their GM is trying to see if maybe we dont offer salary arbitration - no way are the Marlins going to let Lee go for nothing...they'd rather go to arbitration and then trade him.
  13. Did they show any Marlins stuff at 5 or 6pm? I missed it and would like to know to see if they reshow it later.
  14. I think someone on these boards has mentioned that we should try to involve Gibbons in the deal although nothing in the media has been said about his possible inclsusion. From the looks of it, Castillo will resign with the club (unless somone drastically overpays which i dont see happening in todays market) and the marlins will get a trio of pitchers (Riley and Ryam have been the names mentioned the most) but if castillo is not signed then we will get Brian Roberts as part if the trade.
  15. I think we should give Wilson Valdez a shot....he will prob hit this year no worse than .270 as he adjusts to major league hitting and the guy is an awesome basestealer and defender....and it saves some $$ for other needs too!!!
  16. Anthony Gargano of WIP 610 in Philadelphia is reporting that the Phillies could complete a trade for Curt Schilling before the end of the week. Two possibilities are being mentioned. One has Cole Hamels and Chase Utley going to Arizona in return for Schilling. The other possibility is a three-team trade which includes the Marlins. The Diamondbacks would get Derrek Lee from Florida and Josh Hancock from Philadelphia. The Phillies would also send Utley and Ryan Howard to Florida and get Schilling back.[/ This looks like a good trade...they both have good numbers in the minors and if Jason Stokes comes around we can trade Ryan Howard (who plays 1st) for whatever help we need at that time.
  17. Theres no doubt i think are minor leagues will recover but i was just wondering why we hadnt heard about some phenom from low Class A ball (which would be most prob a Beinfest era signing) from LA. I know i jumped the gun and it takes more time for these guys to develop but i just wanted to discuss here my take to make good discussion. And please dont take my post to heart - just want to hear different views.
  18. We also need to rebuild the rest of the farm system due to several trades this season. We had one of the best farm systems and now we have one of the worst. The following prospects were traded this year: Rob Henkel (one of our best pitchers and a lefty too), Ryan Snare, Denny Bautista, Will Smith, Adrian Gonzalez, and Don Levinski. Its a price i will gladly pay to win the world series and i am not whining. Beinfest has his work cut out for him. But i trust that he can build the farm system back to its prominence.
  19. Leaving out the draft, there hasnt been any significant signings from Latin America in the Beinfest era. Albeit its only been 3 years since he took the reins of the origanization, i cant recognize any up and coming players from the Marlins from Latin America. We need to be more aggreesive over there...its the formula thats worked for us in the past w/ players signed such as Edgar Renteria, Luis Castillo, Alex Gonzalez, Antonio Alfonseca, Felix Heredia and Miguel Cabrera. Those are the players right off the top of mind that have the most impact from LA. By now we should have at least 1 or 2 up and comers from LA and we have none. If I am wrong please correct me. Even D. Bautista was signed in 2000 by Al Avila who is now with the Tigers with Dave. If you guys know of any LA players that are good prospects which were originally signed by the Marlins, please list them here.
  20. Do the Marlins have any other players in the Winter leagues?
  21. I prefer to resigning castillo but he is arugably one the best available free agents out there and what the marlins are offering now will easily be surpassed by another team. If the money were to be close, i think Castillo would stay but i dont think it will happen. I thank the Marlins for at least trying to resign him and hopefully we can get lucky.
  22. If Luis wasnt slowed by that injury he had, he could've had a season in stealing bases like Pierre and he had in 2002. We want a Pierre look alike so that when he and Pierre get on, a single possibly can score pierre from second and put pressure on the other team from the get go. As other analysts have said that to stop the marlins is to keep the 2 "jackrabbits" off base.
  23. I think we have a very capable guy in AAA named Wilson Valdez who can win the 2nd base job (hes a natural SS but Marlins are considering moving him over). Valdez's stats - .295 with 24 extra-base hits and 49 stolen bases in 63 attempts. He also is exceptional defensively - i had read in the local newspaper for Alburquerque that managers around the league had named him and Hooper the best DB combo in the PCL.
