Let me throw one name out there...Yadier Molina of the Cardinals. He is 21, batted .280 lat year and has good plate presence with 1 SO for every 9 AB's for his career. Might be expendable for the Cardinals since they have another highly touted catcher prospect (Daric Barton). I dont think it would take too much to get him. Just a thought.

We should trade for a catcher prospect since Ramon Castro cant hit a watermelon and Redmond cant play everyday. Josh Willingham was converted to catcher too late in his minors career. By the time he masters the position, it will be too late. Also, his bat is suffering big time now (hitting less than .200). Our best hitting minor league catcher is E. Alfonso in Class A whi is hitting close to .300 with good power. Only thing on him is that he is 25 years old and is at Class A which doesnt help his chances to get to the big show.

I think we waited too long to play Castro Day-To-Day. In his last year at AAA, he hit over .300 with 20 something homeruns. We should look at the minors system and trade for a young catcher much the same way we traded for Lowell when the need presented itself.

Im going to tommorrows game and i read they have Fiesta Latina Saturdays with Latin food and music. Can someone who has gone tell me how it is? Do you know what band plays there? Also, at what time do they start the festivities? Do you know if the Marlins allow people to leave the stadium once they are inside if its before gametime? ( I want to get the D-Train hat inside and then go back outside to dance some salsa-casino rueda!!)

Marlins in downtown Miami is bad idea By RAY McNULTY May 3, 2004 There are still plenty of questions that must be answered before the first shovel touches dirt on the Miami site where the Florida Marlins hope to build their new baseball home. Can the Marlins get the $30 million they need from the state to fill the funding gap in the proposed plan to finance the project? Can city officials close the deal to sell an obsolete Miami Arena for $25 million? Can a state-of-the-art, 38,000-seat, retractable-roof ballpark be built for $325 million, a paltry sum when compared to the $400 million it cost to construct Milwaukee's Miller Park and the $517 million price tag on Seattle's Safeco Field? Even the most wide-eyed, baseball-crazy optimist should have serious doubts. But there's another, more compelling question that must be asked. What happens after the new ballpark is built? No one questions the Marlins' need to get away from Pro Player Stadium and its owner, Wayne Huizenga, who not only collects rent but also gets most of the parking, concession and luxury-suite revenues. It is the worst stadium lease in baseball. And Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria isn't whining when he says his team can't continue to compete while operating under such economic constraints. So with Huizenga unwilling to budge, Loria has no choice. For the franchise to survive in South Florida, the Marlins must have a new ballpark that enables them to take in a far greater share of the game-day revenues. But the current proposal won't work. Not for long. Not on this site. The decision to build a ballpark next to the Orange Bowl is as shortsighted as it is desperate. And it all but guarantees the long-term failure of the franchise. Why? Because nobody north of Boca Raton is going to drive - on Interstate 95, through Fort Lauderdale, at rush hour - to downtown Miami to watch a baseball game. Not very often, anyway. It's too far, too inconvenient and, for some, too scary. If the Marlins move to Little Havana, they'll ignore the steady, northward migration of South Florida's population and effectively abandon their growing fan base in Palm Beach County and along the Treasure Coast. They'll become a TV team. And when that happens - when the novelty of a new ballpark wears off, when not enough fans from Dade and Broward bother to show up, when the Miami Marlins are playing in front of too many empty seats - Loria again will have no choice. He'll need to move, maybe to one of the counties to the north, or to another Florida market, or to another state ... wherever he can find someone to build him a ballpark. Thing is, without a new ballpark in Miami, Loria has no real choice now. He can't move. The Montreal Expos are at the top of baseball's relocation list. He can't sell. Nobody wants to buy a team with such a lousy stadium lease. The team can't be contracted. The current labor agreement, which doesn't expire until after the 2006 season, prohibits contraction. This is the best deal he can get: It keeps big-league baseball in South Florida, keeps the Marlins in Miami and keeps Loria in the game. But for how long? The franchise won't survive in downtown Miami, even with a new ballpark. So let's say the state comes through. And Miami Arena is sold. And the Marlins find a way to build the ballpark for $325 million. What then? That's the question that needs to be answered - before anyone picks up a shovel. This article makes me laugh. Baseball will survive in Little Havana. If the Heat has survived in its 6 years at the AAA and Mickey Arison hasnt complained then the Marlins will survive also. Deal for new park taking shape Loria hopes state will pick up remaining $30 million By Joe Frisaro / MLB.com SAN FRANCISCO -- Progress is being made in the Marlins' push for a new ballpark, but there remains a gap in funding that the team hopes the state will fill. The Marlins reached agreement Thursday with the city of Miami and Miami-Dade County on a baseball-only park next to the Orange Bowl. To seal the deal, $30 million in funding on the $325 million project must still be raised. The team is pushing the Florida Legislature for a tax rebate that would bridge the gap. From the outset, the state has firmly said such a subsidy won't happen this year. The legislative session ends on Friday, and team owner Jeffrey Loria hopes the state has a change of heart. Team president David Samson was in Tallahassee on Wednesday, but didn't make progress. "We made a major step for all of us in Florida," Loria said after the Marlins beat the Giants, 4-3, Thursday afternoon at SBC Park. "We're hopeful that the Legislature in its good wisdom will see the importance of keeping baseball in South Florida. We still need to fill that gap. And we still have one more day to go." According to the Miami Herald, the agreement with the city calls for the Marlins to pay $157 million. The city of Miami would supply the property and add $28 million in tourist development tax. The county would chip in $120 million. The stadium would seat 38,000 and have a retractable roof.

Im sorry but $30 million is just a fraction of the $325 million so i dont thikn it would be a deal breaker...they can always get it next year in the Legialature.

Ben Howard is now learning how to prepare mentally to pitch in relief after being a starter for his whole career. I think the Marlins want to give him more time to get acclimated before calling him up.

I agree. The Marlins minor leagues looks like its developing some good talent even though these players. Bill Murphy has looked great. We have a ton of good young arms: Scott Olsen, Jeff Allison, Josh Johnson, Yorman Bazardo, Pete Bauer, Trevor Hutchinson, Ben Howard, Jeff Fulchino, Logan Kensing.

We acquired Adam Bonner from the D-Rays in the Minor League Phase of the Rule 5 Draft this year.

AA Carolina Pitchers - Pete Bauer, a starting pitcher we selected in the Rule 5 draft, has been very impressive. Has a 1.13 ERA in his 3 starts (16 IP) allowing only 10 hits and 2 BB showing excellent control. - Trevor Hutchinson, brother of Cowboys QB Chad Hutchinson, has been real good this year. The starting pitcher boasts a 1.50 ERA w/ 19 SO in 18 IP and only 4 BB in his 3 starts. - Bill Murphy, the soth paw starting pitcher who was acquired this year in the Redman deal, has shown promise. After throwing a no-hitter last year, he has started the season off w/ 17 SO in 17 IP and has a 3.12 ERA w/ 7 walks in 3 starts. - RP Pete Hartmann has a 1.17 ERA w/ 12 SO in 7.2 IP w/ only 3 walks Position Players - Jason Stokes has rebounded from last years bad performace w/ a great start. Stokes is hitting .308 w/ 4 HR and 15 RBI in 14 games. On the downside, he still SO'ing alot - he has 19 SO w/ only 3 walks. - Eric Reed, the Marlins organization player of the year last year, has started where he left off. He has a .359 BA, 2 HR, 6 RBI and 9 stolen bases. He is still K'ing to much (14 SO in 15 games) but shows great promise. AAA Albuquerque - Ben Howard has pitched well in the small amount of time hes been a relief pitcher. Has a 2.61 ERA in 10 IP w/ 8 SO and 7 walks. - Frank Gracesqui, picked in the Rule 5 draft last year, still hasnt given up a run in 9 IP. He has 9 SO and 4 walks for the year thus far. - Mike Tejera has a 2.77 ERA in 3 starts. He has 10 SO in 13 IP w/ 5 walks. A Jupiter Postion Players - Travis Ezi, the player acquired in the Encarnacion deal, has a .300 BA w/ 1 HR and 6 RBI. - Jeremy Hermida has a .366 BA w/ 7 RBI. Has shown some speed w/ 4 SB in 5 attempts. - Matt Dermarco has a .386 BA w/ 1 HR and 5 RBI Pitchers - Yorman Bazardo has a 3.50 ERA in 18 IP w/ only 1 walk in 3 starts. - Josh Johnson, has a 1.80 ERA w/ 17 SO in 15 IP w/ 5 walks in 3 starts - Scott Olsen has a 3.29 ERA in 3 starts A Greensboro No notables here I see that we have a bright future with all the young, developing arms we have. This shows that even with last years trades that our farm system is still reeling.
