  1. I get my GCL info from Baseball America. Heres the link http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/Stats..._Rgcl_mar.shtml
  2. Also like to add that in his first game in AAA after scorching AA, Josh Wilson faced Kerry Wood on his rehab assignment and got a hit vs him. Josh is our SS of the future.
  3. This is just a an update for recently drafted players. Jamestown Jammers Jason Vargas, our 2nd round pick this year, almost pitched a no-hitter allowing only 1 hit, 1BB, with 7 SO. He has a 0.84 ERA in 2 starts. Brad McCann (3B) and Brian Cleveland (2B) , both drafted this year, have been scorching it up in Short Season A Ball. McCann is batting .327 and Cleveland .344 so far early in the season. Closer Patrick Hogan has been dominant w/ a 1.23 ERA w/ 11 SO in 7 IP with only 2 walks and 4 saves. Other notables: Catcher Brad Davis has played in only 2 games has a .287 BA. He joined the team recently. Kevin Sewell is batting .361. Gulf Coast Marlins 1st baseman Juan Figueroa is the best hitter on the team with a .351 avg w. 8SO in 57 AB's showing good plate discipline. Leads the team w/ RBI's with 14 in 15 games. 2nd baseman Beau McMillan is hitting .306. Catcher Tanner Rogers (FYI: a graduate of Columbine HS in Colorado) is hitting .290 in 31 AB's SP Stu Alexander in 2 starts has not given up a run with only 1 BB with 14 SO in 14 IP. Jason Stokes is on assignment rehabbing and is hitting .250. Will most prob be back soon to AA Carolina. All in all we have some nice prospects this year to build for the future.
  4. Im pretty sure the agent and the union are the ones talking here and not so much Tankersley. This would set a precedent and players who mess up would have to give up money. Im sorry but if i know im a drug free individual than why not sign the damn thing. Unless Tank is hiding a previous addiction that we dont know about.
  5. dolfinfan305 replied to a post in a topic in Miami Marlins
Vargas is already playing for the Jammers in Shorts Season A Ball. Tank was rumored to be in Extended Spring Training but i havent heard much recently.
  6. Was coming over to post this article myself... Notables: Willingham has played with the Double-A Carolina Mudcats throughout the 2004 season. He was hitting .282 with 17 homers and 55 RBIs in 76 games with the Mudcats. Willingham was also leading the Southern League in two individual categories with a .581 slugging percentage and a .428 on-base percentage. Pretty Darn Impressive if you ask me.
  7. Just looked and are first selection was Garrett Berger in the 2nd. What happened with our first. I thought MLB didnt allow trading of picks, only players after the draft is over.
  8. From the Article "The Marlins WERE defending champs...." What the hell? We ARE the defending champs until a champ is crowned at the end of this season.
  9. Sorry didnt see someone had already mentioned B Davis
  10. Also, catcher Brad Davis, our 5th rounder, made his big league debut yesterday. Still havent seen Tank but i know he has signed. He is still in extended training camp.
  11. Marlins' rookies play 'out back' By Mike English Courier sports editor June 30, 2004 You have to walk out past the Jumbotron, the Florida Marlins Clubhouse and the batting cages but that's where you'll find free professional baseball at Roger Dean Stadium. "Out back" is where the Gulf Coast League Marlins play their games this summer. The GCL is the Marlins rookie league entry and it's where the team's future stars will come from. "They come from colleges and high schools across the country," said manager Tom Cossins. "Some of them we drafted last year and ended up signing just this year. "Most of them come out of the draft. This year it seems we have more college guys than high school kids. We don't have a lot of free agents yet. Usually we'll pick up a couple of them as the season goes on." The Marlins top two picks in this month's draft, pitchers Taylor Tankersley (27th overall) and Jason Vargas (68th), both ended up in the team's Class A short season team in Jamestown, N.Y., but third pick, high school outfielder Gregory Burns (98th) and fourth pick, another high school center fielder Jamar Walton (128th) from Greensville County (Va.) High School, are Gulf Coast Marlins. "Most of them are good college players and real good high school players. We have quite a few good Latin players, too," said Cossins, who said his Spanish is 'improving.' "We have some good talent," the coach said. "It's tough putting a team together in a week but what I try to do right out of the gate is to get them thinking in terms of being a team," Cossins said. "Without a team, there's nothing to hold them together. "It's way too hot and way too tiring for them not to be a team. If you have a bunch of individuals out here, it's going to be a long summer." One of the rookie Marlins didn't have far to travel. Lynn University second baseman Beau McMillan, the Marlins 39th pick (1,178th overall), is a West Palm Beach resident and a Cardinal Newman High graduate. "I played ball at Lynn University down in Boca Raton, they scouted me out, picked me up and that's it," McMillan said. "I'm really excited about it," he said. "I'm a really big fan of the Marlins. My roommate at Lynn, Greg Brown, he graduated the year before and ended up coming up here and now I get to play with him -- he's actually on the Hammerheads." Playing pro ball is something McMillan, 22, has been "dreaming about forever. "It's a dream come true. I'm ready to get going," he said. "It's tough, but I'm enjoying it. "We get up at 6:45 a.m. every day and we're out here until 2 or 3 in the afternoon -- but I love it." It's basic training for baseball, said Cossins, who has been with the team for two years. Players started showing up on June 14 and they had one week to work before their first game. "We do a lot of fundamentals," the coach said. "We got all of our bunt defense in, stuff like that, all the things we do throughout the organization. "This level of the game, for me, is about getting the game in place," he said. "Getting it on a working level and hopefully things you are teaching them catch up to what they are doing physically. "It's a lot of teaching." The Marlins hold English classes for the Latin players, Cossins said. For many of the Latin and high school players (there are 13 teenagers on the Marlins roster), this is their first time away from home and Cossins and his staff have to become surrogate fathers for the youngsters. "That's a big part of it," Cossins said. "These guys are away from their families for the first time, they're in a hotel with no supervision, but they do have a curfew and a bed check so it's not like they're out there running crazy. "They have to make their own choices off the field and that's part of the development, part of finding themselves socially and professionally." Mixed in with the rookies are other minor league players on rehab assign or send down to work on specifics. The Marlins play in the GCL East along with the Dodgers, Expos and Mets. Unlike the Florida State League, there are three GCL divisions including Northern (Yankees, Braves, Tigers and Phillies) and Southern (Pirates, Twins, Red Sox and Reds). They Marlins only play the other teams in their division. The GCL Marlins are carrying 38 on the roster but that fluctuates during the season. Players will be moved up during the season and other newly signed players will be coming in during the course of the summer. "If guys perform here and the organization sees fit, they'll move out of here in a hurry," Cossins said. "Last year, midway through the year, we lost seven guys." Games are Mondays through Saturdays at noon. Admission is free. The Marlins will play a 62-game schedule through the last week of August. "I thought they were going to sneak some night games in for us this year but it doesn't look like it," Cossins said. "This level is just about grinding it out -- just going for it and these kids do that. It's amazing how much work these kids do. It's exactly what they dreamed about and it's what they thought it would be." http://www1.tcpalm.com/tcp/fsl_baseball/ar...2999130,00.html
  12. Remember that Abes trade value isnt as high now as it was at the begg of the season. We are not going to get a top prospect. I say we go after an older catcher prospect (no older than 28 y/o) or a decent reliever (ML or AAA). I dont believe any team will give us anything real good for Abe esp after his struggles this season.
  13. I think we should try to gun for a catcher prospect that can help us out his year. For example, the Angels have Wil Nieves at AAA who is hitting more than .300 this year, has a good OB %, and doesnt strike out alot. The guy i think would be expendable b/c they already have Bengie Molina behind the plate and the guy is 26 y/o and going to be 27 y/o before the season is over. So we would be trading each other 2 older prospects who could help us now. This guy with Bengie there would never smell the ground of a major league field unless as a backup. This would be good for the Angels especially since they've been having an injury plagued year. What other catchers (or other players) do you think we can get in exchange for Abe?
  14. Manazanillo's quirks make it even funner to go to the Park...The guy makes you laugh and he gets outs while hes at it.
  15. In what inning did Admin come up on...im going to watch the re-showing of the game later tonight and want to have the heads up
  16. The one pinch hitter i miss is Todd Hollandsworth...it seemed like everytime we needed a big hit he would come through
  17. Does this guy still have minor league options....Wouldnt do him bad to fine tune technics in minors and then call him up once he masters them.
  18. To make it happen, i think it would take Jason Stokes, Josh Willingham, Scott Olsen...Would i make the deal - NO. Too much to give up.
  19. I got close the catching a ball once. I was in my seat the whole game and my ex wanted to go get something. As we came back thru the tunnel, the usher stopped us since there was no break in play. Next isee a ball hit toward us - i look and the ball would've hit my seat. They guy in back of me had to bend forward almost falling down to get the ball. I was furious. I didnt talk to my the ex the whole game thereafter.
  20. Tejera is just what we need. If he gets called up, he will pitch his butt off so that we dont send him back down.
  21. The only thing good about tonight for me was when are section (103)was heckling the Sox bullpen. Everytime they went for a pitch we did a noise and when the catcher threw him back the ball we did the same sound but at a lower tone. We finally got a smile from the guy warming up (Politte).
  22. Whats the earliest after the game that you see the players leaving from the lot?
  23. I didnt know the players lot was there. Im going to check it out next time.
  24. I saw her in the spiraling way after the game...i saw her w/ a guy who im guessing is you
  25. Hey Miri...were you wearing a Lowell T-shirt at tonights game? I think i saw you.
