July 19, 200520 yr Yes, though if the Marlins have to eat virutally all of his contract then they should let him try to play out of his yearlong depression and deal him in the offseason, when his value likely won't be much lower than it is now. However, if the O's or some team would take on his entire contract right now, I'd say deal him immediately.
July 19, 200520 yr I suppose he IS hitting over .300 in July so it's always possible he's coming around... 'course I've been hoping that for months now. And the power still isn't really there either. 5 doubles & a homer over the last 20 games.
July 19, 200520 yr Its funny when I hear people say stuff like "blind loyalty" and "devotion" when some bench players are out hitting Mikey. I am the first one in line to say that it would be very sad to see Mikey go...but the truth is that when you have a $25 million contract and with the current economic state of the Marlins, we gotta let this guy go. It seems that Mikey cant get back to his old self and we need to make enough money room to get us another solid player in the offseason. If we just say.... "Oh, lets keep Lowell because of loyalty"...then s***.... lets stay at ProPlayer forever and forget about a newer and more profitable stadium because good old Wayne started the franchise." I think Mikey is a great guy and "deserves" to play in his hometown... BUT the fact remains the Mikey is going to still get paid regardless of what team he plays for and the Marlins will get stuck paying his huge contract when that chunk of our LIMITED funds could go to someone else... 864610 Finally someone who makes sense. You people are TOO emotionally attached to these players. MIKE LOWELL DOESN'T KNOW YOU. HE DOESN'T CARE ABOUT YOU. IF WE TRADE HIM, HE WILL NOT MISS YOU. HE WILL JUST HAVE FANS IN ANOTHER CITY AND HE WILL GO HOME TO HIS MANSION WITH HIS WIFE AND KIDS AND HAVE A BIG STEAK DINNER AND YOU WILL NOT CROSS HIS MIND. Kind of harsh, but it's the truth. Mike Lowell is hurting this team with his weak play and with his fat contract. The Marlins organization does not have money to WASTE. I'd rather see the Marlins have a successful team than keep Mike Lowell. Mike Lowell shouldn't even be starting right now...
July 19, 200520 yr Trade him, he is playing very poorly for almost 162 games now. His slump started after last all star break. I believe he has hit 11 homers in the past 160 games and his average keeps dropping. If Baltimore takes his salary why not dump it on them and get someone else who can play. 864654 yea he doesnt seem 2 be helping at all we need leadership homes runs n RBIs :whistle

July 19, 200520 yr This poll needs to be corrected. I would agree to trade him if we didn't have to pay the rest of his salary, but I would say no if we still have to foot the bill.
July 19, 200520 yr Mike has shown that he is devoted to this team and I hope that he doesn't get traded. Everyone is entitled to have a bad year. 864556 This year is beyond bad for Mike. It's a cataclysmic disaster of epic proportions.
July 19, 200520 yr His power ain't coming back, so even if his average improves, he's a slap hitter at a power position with a huge contract. Dump him if you can get any kind of deal ASAP.

Gotta dump him if at all possible.

July 19, 200520 yr Author and he does not offer ANY clubhouse leadership 864564 What a f'ing joke, you make some of the worst posts on MB.com. You can't honestly believe what you just said.
July 19, 200520 yr im having a hard time even understanding why people dont want lowell to be traded...even if we have to flip for some of his contract he is not very good anymore, the glove is there, the will and heart is there, but the bat isnt, and we pay him for his bat...its time to move on mikey, i love everything you did for the franchise, you are a greaty guy and i wish you all the success in the world, but winning should be the most important thing to a baseball franchise
July 19, 200520 yr H*ll no, atleast no for what we are getting in return. One pitcher with an ERA of 3 is not bad but we are getting someone with an ERA over 6 :plain The OF stats are not as good as lowells either and will most likely be used as a PH. The Pirates are also sending us a guy who has been up and down with them as far as pitching :banghead
July 19, 200520 yr If Lowell makes it through to the next homestand we should all go out and start a Mike Lowell chant and let him know we still love him no matter how bad it gets. After all like Accord siad he is now Mr. Marlin.

After all like Accord siad he is now Mr. Marlin. 865247 It's nice to know that you will worship a man who is hitting .232 and is getting paid 7.5 million a year... ....thank god YOU don't run this team. I'm looking forward to people chanting Mike Lowell's name while he strikes out with runners in scoring postion. Are you a Marlin fan? Or are you a Mike Lowell fan?
July 19, 200520 yr I think Lowell should be traded. Heres why: Throwout this poor season and yes, his on the field performance is spectacular. However, he is eating up a lot of salary and he does not offer ANY clubhouse leadership. Give me a guy that will hit .270 and 15 HR and is the leader in the clubhouse and I will take him over Lowell's barely .300 with 25-30 HRs. The one negative that we have with such young talent is the lack of leadership in the clubhouse. I would love to hear stories in the herald about Lowell being a leader regardless of his on the field stats. He still anchors that defense and he still has had 4 extreamly good years before this one. I love this guy. He is what made me excited about the Marlins. And I will be estatic if we don't trade him. But if we do, I will understand why. And above is the reason I will use to cope with it. 864564 well said...same way i feel

July 19, 200520 yr do not trade Mikey! Good players adjust and find new ways of doing what they do best...Mikey will find his swing or create a new one that will get his bat back to where it's supposed to be. Mike is one of the best defensiver 3B in the league in my opinion. Like it's been said before Lowell has played his heart out for this team and to drop him that quickly would be a disgrace. If the front office is that insistent on trading Lowell it better be if that team is taking all of the salary otherwise there is no point. DONT TRADE MIKEY LOWELL!
