September 14, 200520 yr iunno, i'd rather have our fate in our hands. for example, if we win tonight and phili wins, yeah we're only 1 up in the wild card against phili but we get them this weekend on our home turf, where less than 2/3 is unacceptable. especially with moehler willis beckett so if we win and phili wins tonight we're only 4 out of ATL with 7 to play. and you set yourself up to have a chance.
September 14, 200520 yr I agree. As much as I would like to gain ground on the Braves, the recent run by Philadelphia is a little bit nerve racking considering they'll be coming into town next week. Plus, they are now only 1 1/2 behind the Fish for Wild Card lead and you don't want them to go on a long extended winning streak coming into our house this weekend. Go Braves :plaindance
September 14, 200520 yr Go Phillies! A win today coupled with a braves loss would put us only 4 games behind with 6 remaining games left with atlanta and about 20 games left total. That is by no means an impossible task.

September 14, 200520 yr I'm rooting for the Phillies. I don't personally care how they've been playing, we still play them at home and we should beat them. Momentum is only as good as your next starting pitcher so I don't care if they're "hot." I'm not going to root for a team that's in front of us to beat a team behind us, fails to make sense to me. Simply put, if we win, Philly wins, we're 4 back with 6 games vs. them, you can't ask for much more than that. The wild card is great, but I want the division.
September 14, 200520 yr How about just root for the Marlins to win the next two, and know that no matter what happens with Atlanta/Philly, we're benefitting. But, yeah, I think I'd rather see Atlanta knock off Philly before I hold out hope for us to make up crazy ground against Atlanta.

It would be nice to take out the braves but that 1 game lead over the ph*cking phillies is not comforting to me. I want the braves to knock them to the gates of hell so that we can afford losses to them later. B/c rooting for the phillies assumes that we must beat the phils next series and the braves in the next two including one at the Kremlin

I can not bring myself to root for the Braves....then again I can't root for the Phillies either....hmmm....I'll have to go against the Braves and not for either.

September 14, 200520 yr I think we might still have a shot at the division; we've gotten closer than i thought we would. If there is a chance we better win the division because when we are in the playoffs we face mighty San Diego, and that's undisputably way better than facing the Cards in the first round. So go phils!

Maybe I'm "too optimistic" but I'd rather see the scenario that proves we have a chance of actually doing something in said playoffs when we get there. We shouldn't lose a series to Philly at home in September if we're a playoff team. And if actually expecting this team to go out and do something is too optimistic then so be it. We have to beat teams the caliber of the Braves if we want to win the playoffs, so why not do it now?
September 14, 200520 yr Let's just keep winning and playing good ball and let the chips fall where they will. I'm sure the sentiment could change by next week when the Braves host the Phillies. Let's suppose we win the Phillies series this weekend and build up a 2-3 game lead in the WC, then everyone will set their sights on catching up to the Braves and will root for Philly in the rematch. Mostly we must keep on winning to control our destiny. But I sure would like to be within striking distance of the Braves as we go into the final 9 games. I for one sure haven't given up hope of winning the division. It may be unlikely, but still not impossible.
