November 4, 200520 yr Obviously Miguel Cabrera is an incredible talent and he is the best thing to happen to the Marlins in a long time (along with Dontrelle), but is anyone concerned about his attitude? That quote of him telling the veterans to f*** off really disappointed me...could he become a real drain on the team?
November 4, 200520 yr I thought it was established over time that he was misunderstood in that comment. Something about it being lost in translation, from him speaking in Spanish to an english speaking reporter; or vice versa.
November 4, 200520 yr I suspect, much of Miggy's behavior may be tied to the birth of his child. As a parent, I look back on the birth my son and remember how invinsible and god-like ("look what I created...") I felt upon his arrival (and the relief that all went well) and Miggy may be going through the same thing. It is totally normal and predictable and as he slides into the role of father and role model and comes to terms with his parental responsibilities, my guess is you'll see a more subdued and stable Miguel Cabrera.
November 4, 200520 yr Not really. He's the team's star and the media and fans love to find deficiencies with them.
November 4, 200520 yr He'll probably end up signing long term with another team anyway. I love the confidence on this board. I think Miggy will be here a long long time.
November 4, 200520 yr As long as a he stays a lovable airhead that follows what Giraldi says, works hard, and treats fans well....I don't care what he does with his peers.
November 4, 200520 yr why does miguel always get a free pass on things? What do you mean "a free pass" ?
November 4, 200520 yr why does miguel always get a free pass on things? What do you mean "a free pass" ? a free pass in whatever he doesnt isnt his fault, its not a big deal etc. part of being a superstar is not being a prick to your teammates, especially if you want to cultivate a winning attitude consistently. for everything 'questionable' he does, he always seems to get a free pass because of his bat. why do the rules apply for others but not him?
November 5, 200520 yr Cabrera will soon be a leader i would stay i shut if i were him. No matter how good you are, you need to keep your mouth shut even though that comment was misunderstood according to an article i read.
November 5, 200520 yr Author I just hope that Miggy doesn't shortchange his huge potential i.e dogging it in the field
November 5, 200520 yr Who cares what he said, as long as next season comes along, he can hit the ball, something the marlins had trouble last season, lets not all forget that.

I agree. I love having Miguel on the team and I think he's a great talent. But just because you're good doesn't mean you couldn't be even better with hard work and the right attitude. It is possible to be a star and conduct yourself with a little class. He is young so hopefully he'll get over himself. I don't believe the lame excuse about the "misunderstanding."
November 5, 200520 yr why does miguel always get a free pass on things? Every Marlin not named A.J. Burnett gets one. See: Mike Lowell

That quote of him telling the veterans to f*** off really disappointed me...could he become a real drain on the team? I still think that was his anger yelling that. as a matter of fact, my freinds were reading an article the other day about him, they were real pissed about what he said and also assumed he might be the next Manny or some other horrible attitude player. My freinds joke about him to me somtimes, but I coud care less. In my opinion, it's just miggy blowing off steam, he always seems care free and when he talks and trains with Pujols, I figure he will find more love for the game rather then more love with making an @$$ of himself
November 5, 200520 yr I don't care if Miggy worshipped Satan in his free time, as long as he hits 30+ and drives in 100+ RBI's I'll be perfectly fine with him.
November 5, 200520 yr Das do you have any other examples on Miggy. Always giving him a free pass? Miggy will be here long term no doubt. Any ownership group that lets D_Train or Miggy leave will be commiting suicide.

Any ownership group that lets D_Train or Miggy leave will be commiting suicide. well the top two off the top of my head concerns his defensive struggles in rf last year....(which can partially be understood) his problems with his late season blowup in the lockeroom.
November 6, 200520 yr I think if you want to keep him from becoming another Manny, you keep him at third base. Stick him in the outfield and he'll become bored and lazy... kind of like the little leaguers kicking dirt clogs and picking their noses in the outfield.
November 6, 200520 yr The only thing troubling about Miguel at all to this point is that he doesn't run out balls on defense. He'll be fine with everything else.
