November 20, 200520 yr How about instead of the propsed trade with the Rangers The marlins make a trade with the astros. Houston trades Morgan Ensberg + Brandon Backe to Florida for Josh Beckett + Mike Lowell This trade makes more sense for the Marlins than the rangers deal because the marlins would receive a good major league starter who is still very young and cheap
November 20, 200520 yr I highly doubt multiple media sources are talking out of their asses when referring to Beckett being on the market. I also think Joe Capozzi and the Palm Beach Post deserve some credit for breaking this story. They've taken alot of s*** for being biased for breaking supposedly unsubstantiated stories in the last few months, and this is one that they've gotten right. Good for them. We dont know if this is true or not still. Multiple media outlets have picked up on all of the dooms day scenarios actually, they could just be re-telling an unsubstantiated claim created by Capozzi. So we dont know if this is one they have gotten right or not.

When the Dallas Morning Star has it's own sources in the Rangers saying a deal is being worked on, and Tom Hicks saying nothing at all something is going on. Not only do you have the Miami media but you have the Texas media and Gammons reporting the same thing. This is very much a credible story.

So we dont know if this is one they have gotten right or not. Meh, I don't buy this. Gammons and Rosenthal have independently confirmed this rumor, and say what you will about those two in the past, but when multiple baseball people all hear about the same story, I'm inclined to believe there's some truth to it. If just one of Gammons, Rosenthal, or Capozzi were reporting this, I might believe it's false. But with all of them in on it, combined with some of the logic behind the deal in terms of ridding Lowell's contract while also bringing back some decent players (even though I absoluetly detest seeing Beckett dealt), I'd say it's definetly been discussed. Whether or not it actually happens is a different matter.
November 20, 200520 yr I dont really see the decent players we are bringing back. Blaylock the 3B with the light bat we dont need, or the toss up of two medicore pitching prospects that wouldn't even break the top 10 of Marlins pitching prospects.

Just because YOU don't see the logic in it doesn't mean the front office doesn't see the logic in it. They don't consult you or anyone here about logic behind a deal before making it, so quit acting like just because you don't like a deal it won't happen. I hate this particular deal, but I'll wait until the entire team is constructed for next year before passing judgement on the job the front office did this offseason. That said, I'm not all that optimistic.

At this point, it is impossible to know if all of these reports are merely regurgitated crap from the original Capozzi article. Regardless, even if he did get it right, the PBP is still 1 for 55... kind of like the Panthers powerplay :lol .

Umm... both Danks and Diamond are very good prospects. Danks is 3 on our prospect list if he is aquired. Same goes for Diamond. 1. Jeremy Hermida, of 2. Scott Olsen, lhp 3. Josh Johnson, rhp 4. Chris Volstad, rhp 5. Aaron Thompson, lhp 6. Robert Andino, ss 7. Taylor Tankersley, lhp 8. Josh Willingham, c/1b 9. Kris Harvey, 3b/of 10. Ryan Tucker, rhp
November 20, 200520 yr I don't want to see Josh go. I'll tolerate it if whomever we get in return turns out alright.

November 20, 200520 yr I hear a bunch of crying on how the world of teal is going to end. The sky is still there as far as I can tell.
November 20, 200520 yr it is sad you have to admit. We had all that great Starting pitching. Beckett Burnett Penny Pavano willis you could of locked up those 5 and you would of had a dynasty like the braves did

November 20, 200520 yr I realize this is all rather far-fetched, but I'm just trying to find a rationale for this being the first offseason move we make: Since multiple sources have reported this trade as being Loria's deal, maybe this is his way of dealing with the promise he made to Delgado. The books say the team needs to cut payroll, but Loria told Delgado (the highest priced and most desirable of our tradeable commodities) that he isn't going anywhere. Maybe Beinfest and Samson put the onus of finding salary relief on Loria, and told him that he had to find a way to cut salary if he was dead set on keeping Delgado. So Loria finds a team that's willing to take on Lowell's salary the only way he can, by attaching Beckett. Maybe they keep Delgado, keep Blalock at third, move Cabs back to left. We will see. But this will be a very interesting off-season nonetheless. I have my season tickets and I'm going regardless of what happens. I'm very curious to see how crafty our management can be...
November 20, 200520 yr If Beckett goes out the door, along with Burnett, our rotation will be extremely shaky this year. We're talking Willis, plus Vargas and Olsen, both of whom are still rookies, and then another prospect like Josh Johnson, who has very little experience. Then you probably have the mediocre Brian Moehler at the back of the rotation. So basically, we go from having the best rotation in the NL East in 2005, to the worst in the division in 2006. Nobody can argue that point. I would also have to agree with whomever said earlier that 80 wins will be tough this year. We'll be very lucky to escape with a winning record this year, with the lack of pitching we're going to have.

Marlins give: Lowell Yankees give: A-Rod, Jeter, Hughes, Wang, Chacon, Cash to cover all those contracts

Except that Backe is nothing more than a decent #4 starter and Ensberg is due for a big raise pretty soon I believe.
November 20, 200520 yr Well.. if we move Blalock for a decent young pitcher, this all isn't going to look that bad. We'll downgrade at SP but shed Lowell's contract.. and get some spects as well. The way I figure, we'll trade Blalock for a SP.. lets say Arroyo (if they get AJ) and probably sign a pitcher like Brett Tomko (or whoever) cheap. 1. DTrain 2. Arroyo 3. Vargas 4. Tomko 5. Olsen Not that bad... could be worse
November 20, 200520 yr Too many trades in baseball over a short time, its like buying a house, making it your home, and then selling it 2 years later, I would say, if you buy that house and make it your home, you should stay in that home, unless there is something very wrong with the house, or the people next to you.
November 20, 200520 yr I like Blalock whether we keep him or not. He's locked into a reasonable contract for the next few years and despite his faults is young and talented and capable of playing a defensively-important position. I wish we would get a few hitting prospects to go along with all the pitching we have in the minors. If this is the price we must pay to rid ourselves of Lowell, heh, so be it.
