Posted May 12, 200618 yr Dontrelle Willis only has the second HIGHEST ERA on the Florida Marlins this year!
May 12, 200618 yr He just did not look like the Dontrelle that I saw last year. There are many explanations for it, but you wouldn't think he would look this bad...
May 12, 200618 yr D-train just isn't that consistent of a pitcher (just like the rest of the Marlins 05 rotation). He had outtings just like this in 03 and 04. 05 was an incredible year and he still had outtings like this right around the All Star break. I was hoping this year would lead to less wins (because the lack of offense) but a 2.something ERA. The defensive errors don't help. I think its 25% the team and 75% when you have to point blame at his bad string of performances. He is just looking horrible out there lately.
May 12, 200618 yr his mechanics are all %^^%$## up I hoped he worked those issues out last year. Last year there were games that he started like crap, but was able to recover by the 2 or 3rd inning giving the ballclub a chance to win. I still have faith he is going to be allright

I wish we had kept Wiley. He was an outstanding influence on Willis last season. On all our pitchers, really.

May 12, 200618 yr Getting rid of Mark Wiley was such a stupid move. He worked magic with D-Train, Todd Jones, etc.

He just needs to get use to not having the major defense that backed him since his call-up in 2003. His pitching locations need to be different, and ofcourse his control much reach a higher peak since now it is necessary. In the end, he'll be alright. I never doubt someone who has a strong work ethic. QUICK EDIT: Dontrelle Willis IS a groundout pitcher and is NOT overpowering. If he has a chance of winning this season, the defense MUST be there. Even in 2003 when he went on his winning streak all he would allow were ground balls. He had his outtings with many strikeouts but don't let that be his expectations every night out.

I think it was more a case of Wiley deciding on his own to move on to greener pastures rather than the Marlins letting him go as has been reported.

The thing with Dontrelle is that his mechanics have to be just right or it's just disastrous. His delivery can be his best asset or his worst enemy. Wiley seemed to know how to help him get it just right.
May 13, 200618 yr We should start Matt Treanor in his starts. It seems to me like Olivo is having a tough time catching Dontrelle. But, sooner or later he will figure it out, he will make adjustments. He is a winner at heart and a winner on the mound.
