May 21, 200620 yr You know what.......3 weeks ago I would have said that you are nuts asking the FO to go out and get a real closer. But your absolutely right. I think that if this insanity continues this could have long lasting effects on the mentalities of these young ballplayers. I knew coming in to this year that the team would struggle and lose a lot of games. But to lose these games night after night in the same Groundhog Day fashion was and is beyond my wildest dreams. The camera panning into the dugout after last nights meltdown says it all.

May 25, 200620 yr You guys know if the "Tank" gonna be coming up soon? My thought is the closer will be Carlos Martinez in the bullpen we will have Kensing, German, Tank and Mitre...would keep Messanger around as well
May 25, 200620 yr You guys know if the "Tank" gonna be coming up soon? My thought is the closer will be Carlos Martinez in the bullpen we will have Kensing, German, Tank and Mitre...would keep Messanger around as well Taylor Tankersley struck out four in two hitless innings of relief for Double-A Carolina on Wednesday. Tankersley has a 1.09 ERA and five saves for Carolina. He's given up 11 hits, walked 13 and struck out 37 in 24 2/3 innings. Expect the left-hander to make his major league debut at some point within the next couple of months. May. 25 - 3:03 pm et Per rotoworld.com

May. 25 - 3:03 pm et Per rotoworld.com Half of the guys in our bullpen right now are starters by trade. Let's get some guys up whose career is gonna be in the bullpen and are used to pitching in this type of situation. I think once Tank is fully comfortable in the role and has done it for a while, he'll be up here.
May 26, 200620 yr Scott Olsen? It seems like he has been struggling the second time around the lineup. What do you guys think? I also like the idea of K-Mart being the closer.
May 26, 200620 yr well Olsen is still very young, it would be kind of a knee jerk reaction to our situation. Olsen does need to start going 6-7 innings though. We'll find our closer at some point. I'm not wild about rookies in pressure closing situations anyway, more times then not it's a good way to ruin someones confidence.

I also like the idea of K-Mart being the closer. i don't think olsen has the stuff to close..nor the velocity. i'd like to try k-mart (he throws in the mid-90's right?).. he has dominating stuff
May 26, 200620 yr resop, tank, c-mart, hell even garcia, delgado, etc... gotta give our boys a shot before we go out and spend money on someone.
May 26, 200620 yr resop, tank, c-mart, hell even garcia, delgado, etc... gotta give our boys a shot before we go out and spend money on someone. Lord knows we don't want to flirt with that $15 million mark. :lol

Lord knows we don't want to flirt with that $15 million mark. :lol Since we're already in crapper regarding finances, why not just use the guys we already have?
May 26, 200620 yr What makes you think we're going to spend any money on anyone else? When you slash payroll like the team did this winter, we're stuck with what we have.
May 26, 200620 yr give the ball to k-mart once he comes back. the man is filthy. mid 90's fastball and a filthy slider. do it.
May 26, 200620 yr yeah it's going to have to come from inside the org. All those guys mentioned that were good closers on bad Marlins teams, those weren't guys we went out & acquired. Martinez or Tankersly are the best bets at this point probably. Bowyer's injured so we don't know about him yet.
May 26, 200620 yr While I am pretty skeptical about his ability to command, nobody in this thread has mentioned Travis Bowyer, the guy who is labeled to be our closer of the future. While he may end up being the next Kyle Farnsworth, this guy is supposed to have the stuff to close and that's not something all the guys being mentioned have.

I'm hoping he can develop some command and some secondary stuff. Right now he may only have a fastball, but it is quite a fastball from what I hear.

All your posts say you'll take Scott Olsen. Hey...if Joey Pitbull don't want him, we'll take him. You guys need a closer. Papelbon is our closer now, with Hansen in-waiting down I-95 @ Pawtucket. Next year, Papelbon will be in the rotation after Wells hangs them up. Hansen then becomes the closer. Foulke will definitely be odd man out at that point You need a closer. Grab Foulke now. Seems that in 2003, you guys did pretty good with two former BoSoxers in your bullpen... Beinfest should call Theo now. Theo just got engaged, so he's in a real good mood these days... (Hell, we'll even throw in J.T. Snow...we gotta make room for a former Marlin named Choi, ya know...)
