June 11, 200620 yr hmm moe has been pretty good save for one start the past month. As long as things go as they have been this game....5 quality starts out of the last 6. Some of you are smoking something bad. Moe hasnt been great, but recently he hasnt been doing anything to warrant losing his spot. doesn't matter....he isn't part of the future but he is doing what he was brought in for this year. be a veteran presence and eat innings. still a bit misguided to be calling for his release when he is pitching his best ball of the year. some of you really are idiots. This is his best season so far from his career? :banghead How bad was he then?
June 11, 200620 yr Today was a good start. The one before that was bad. But if you take the last bad start away, and add in the 4 starts before that and the one today, he is 5 GS, 4-0, 2.9 ERA. His spot should be safe for the time being.
June 11, 200620 yr gotta agree ^ was nice for Moe to actually bounce back on this start and not let the big a inning get to him. he at least earns another start.
June 11, 200620 yr But overall he has a 6+ ERA. And last season his 5+ ERA is noting to cheer about. We give him 3 more start like someone said aand hope he pitch well enough to be trade.

June 11, 200620 yr dont release him, trade him. We could get something for him. trade him to the yankees, they're always looking for pitching..
June 11, 200620 yr Dont forget Vargas, who seems to be getting his groove back down in Albaquerque. lmao.....Mitre gets first crack. And can I ask why? Mitre is no more part of the future of this team than Moehler is.
June 11, 200620 yr Dont forget Vargas, who seems to be getting his groove back down in Albaquerque. vargas hasn't been doing so well, he has a 4.70 ERA...definetly not "getting his groove back"....although he is batting .375...maybe he can play a little centerfield..

June 12, 200620 yr Dont forget Vargas, who seems to be getting his groove back down in Albaquerque. i'm sorry, but what are you basing that on? if anyone from AAA should be brought up, its Ungs or Carlyle (3-1, 1.93ERA, 0.86WHIP) Carlyle was either sold or released...to play in Japan. Now, Carlyle played at Korea Baseball League. He played in closer in one of Korea baseball team. (I'm Korean. It's sure.)
June 12, 200620 yr I always thought Bret Hart was Canadian. lol, He was Canadien, forever. But he lived in Italy, now, after losing his little brother, Owen.
June 12, 200620 yr Olsen, Nolasco and Johnson are ready for the rotation.. Pinto and Petit aren't. That's why Moe is pitching, and like das said, has kept us in games lately. He isn't a part of our future, yes, so whenever anyone is ready to step in, no probelms here.
June 12, 200620 yr but he is doing what he was brought in for this year. be a veteran presence and eat innings. still a bit misguided to be calling for his release when he is pitching his best ball of the year. some of you really are idiots. thank you Count me in on the pro Moe side. A guy is doing good and people want him released or traded. Yea, that sure would send out the right message to the kids. This guy came back this season for one reason. He said at the start of ST that he wanted to help out the young talent because he knows what it is like to be a rookie on a young team without leadership. He is playing the best ball he has in a long time because he is finally able to control his off speed stuff after surgery. He is teaching these young kids how to pitch when you don't have your best stuff. And people want him gone. Just brilliant.

This isn't a fantasy team...this is a major-league ball club. Jeez...
June 12, 200620 yr you all make me laugh. if we lose fire evveryone if ew win we're the best team ever they should just give us the trophy, forget the 162 games lol I'm glad I'm not the only one who sees this.

June 12, 200620 yr I don't see him having a future with the Marlins past this year. Hopefully he'll be successful enough for the Marlins to get something anything in July.
June 12, 200620 yr You guys need to understand that with a team so young it helps to have a veteran presence on the team to help guide the young pitchers. From what I have read/heard Moe is filling that role very nicely with the young pitchers we have, you can't go ALL young cause then they don't have anyone to learn from and by learn I don't mean pitching skills but rather, learning how to cope with all the other intangibles in the bigs. Give the hate a rest on Moe on top of what he has meant to the young guys he has been pitching much better lately and giving our team a chance to win.
June 12, 200620 yr For that to happen, you need a number of factors to occur. How do we even know that Moehler is approachable to the players he knows will be in position to take his job? How do we know that these young players are coming to him? That what he knows what steps he takes to be successful and how that can translate to other players? How do we know what is offering is helpful? Remember your own high school? There were a number of bad teachers. A number of bad students. Many poor relationships between otherwise excellent teachers and motivated students. The ideal is right, but in the end, these leaders and teachers should be determined by the net result which may not be discovered until years down the line.
June 12, 200620 yr I don't like Moehler but if he can average 6 innings per start with an ERA around 4.50 (this is not too much to ask) I would keep him in the rotation so he can eat innings. He's done that over his past 6 starts (6 1/3 innings with a 4.46 ERA) and if he keeps doing it I say keep him in the rotation. If he goes back and starts pitching like a bum like he did from mid '05 up until his recent "good" stretch then dump him and give his spot to Pinto or Petit or someone else. I also don't think a guy caught with sandpaper (or something like that) in his glove is the best of role models for the young pitchers.

How do we know that these young players are coming to him? That what he knows what steps he takes to be successful and how that can translate to other players? How do we know what is offering is helpful? We don't know...however Beinfest, Hill, Girardi and Kranitz certainly do know what goes on in the clubhouse and how the young arms relate to Moehler. That's why you need to have some faith in management and the coaching staff...things aren't always black and white. Perhaps the decision to keep Herges had something to do with his "approachability" vs. that of Lightenberg, Wellemeyer and/or German? :mischief2
June 12, 200620 yr Well, my point was more that the ideal is the result of perfect conditions and not to be expected. Of course. Anything is possible. And while success needs opportunity, opportunity does not equal success. So the Marlins management may have failed in projecting Moehler or Herges or Lightenberg's on and/or off field value and have had to re-assess their roles with the team.
June 12, 200620 yr Moehler still lose more games then win them. That is going to hurt our future when Moehler turn 39. You may be the biggest idiot of them all. Moehler is what 34?
