If the Fish were to somehow win the Wild Card (or at least finish with 85ish wins, does he get MVP considerations? With a team of rookies, he is more valuable to the Fish than any player on any other team.

But Cabrera is having his best season (statistically)without protection while being the most targeted Marlin by far... Uggla has been under the radar and not well known by other teams. Let's see how he does in the second half, as he approaches that proverbial 'wall'. Cabrera demands so much respect from other teams and probably gets less good pitches to hit than just about anyone...and yet he still produces and finds ways (IIB RBI single in Baltimore would be a literal example there).

June 28, 200620 yr Id like to think that he could get some consideration, but unless his recent DL stint hurts him, Pujols will likely be the MVP. Wright and Beltran in NY would also probably beat Cabs. Watch out for Nomar too.

June 28, 200620 yr cabs average is much better than Uggla...miguel is hitting .347 and uggla is .313, there's quite a difference there. Uggla is in the 2 spot and he has a great hitter in cabrera behind him. Cabrera doesn't have as good protection. This is why many thought that cabs would have an off year and pitchers would not give him pitches to hit..he's proved them wrong and now has the 4th highest BA in the NL.

Not quite- he has been intentionaly walked 16 times, second only to Barry Bonds.
June 28, 200620 yr Author The other amazing thing about Cabrera's season is not only is he hitting well in all areas...but he has cut down on his strikeouts by a TON. In fact, he almost has a 1:1 BB/K ratio (45:49). He's on pace for about 100-105 Ks, which is 20-25 less than last year (that's a big deal!). And his OPS of 1.023 would be the higher ever for a Florida Marlin, and is currently 3rd in the NL (6th in the MLB). But I haven't even gotten to the best part--- Miguel hasn't missed a game the entire season. So he's putting up these numbers, cutting down the K's and staying consistent while playing the maximum a player is allowed. There are no cheapies in Miguel's stats.
June 28, 200620 yr I'll agree that Miggy is having a terrific season, but unless the Marlins as a team make a step towards contention and the Cards drop out the MVP is Pujols to lose. What might help him is if the writers actually think about what Cabrera has hitting behind him, not complaining about my team but this isn't exactly murderers row. It also helps having Wright and Beltran cancelling each others votes out too.

Not quite- he has been intentionaly walked 16 times, second only to Barry Bonds. That doesnt mean he isnt seeing pitches to hit. The more telling sign isnt intentional walks, its how many times hes been pitched around as opposed to be pitched too. Even with 16 intentional`walks thats a very small percentage of his at bats. So you havent disproven my point
