There was so much going on at that moment that I didn't see if he did swing his crutches around or not. I don't think he should've been there to begin with. But, Leggett did hit Ned and then ran away. Too bad nobody saw that part. Pretty lame. Lame acts on both sides though.

Ned was on the field but away from everything (so no he wasn't swinging his crutches) that was taking place (eastern end of the field) and punk @$$ #9 Lance Legget did the most despicable thing that I can ever remember a UM player do (and that's saying alot) with his hit-and-run move. I'd be ashamed to even be associated with a player who does cowardly crap like that. He reminded me of the same punk move that Tennessee Titans player Albert Haynesworth did recently when he stepped on one of the Dallas Cowboys player's face.

ok, here is the thing for me...i dont condone the fighting and im glad to see that deserving players were suspended...but this is exactly what miami needed...yeah...ok...i went there...they needed this...FIU came into the orange bowl and tried to disrespect miami football...that is unacceptable...untolerable...recruits of miami football should see that "58 home game winning streak" and see the blood, sweat, effort, and passion that went into that...these guys arent thugs(for the most part), they are just a bunch of under achievers and maybe now, current and future hurricanes will realize that miami football isnt about winning close games and being friendly with the opponent...its about god damn kicking some ass, banging hot chicks and going to the NFL...if you dont want to do that, then go to some pansy ass football school and have a nice career as a shmuck

the university of miami has gone from being a dynasty in college football to being an absolute disgrace to the city of miami. in less than 5 years. not only are they an albatross on the field, but now off of it as well.

This whole thing should be an embarassment for everyone concerned. Sometimes I hate this Miami program, and this is one of those times. They make it really tough to root for them. I hate the fans and the atmosphere they create at the games. It is the least supportive atmosphere imaginable. It's all about hating the other guy, rather than cheering for your own side. I hate that the players are thugs. I hate that the city demands absolute perfection out of a bunch of college kids.

 

Seriously, give me Duke football over Miami football any day. The Blue Devils may suck ass, but at least I don't have to feel dirty just for being a fan. Nothing would please me more than to see Duke knock Miami on its ass next week. I know it's an impossible pipe dream, but it would pretty much make my year.

After reviewing a sideline-clearing brawl between players from Miami and Florida international, officials from both schools on Sunday announced the suspension of 31 players ? 13 from the Hurricanes, and 18 from FIU.

 

Each suspended player must sit out his team's next game for taking part in the ugly melee that marred the team's Saturday matchup. Miami plays at Duke Oct. 21, FIU plays at Alabama Oct. 28.

 

More sanctions are still possible, officials from both schools said.

 

The fight came during Miami's 35-0 win Saturday night against Florida International, which plays across town. It was the first meeting between the teams.

 

Earlier Sunday, Miami coach Admin Coker said the five players ejected in the fight ? offensive linemen Derrick Morse and Chris Barney, running back Charlie Jones, and cornerbacks Carlos Armour and Bruce Johnson ? would be suspended.

 

Coker also suspended safeties Anthony Reddick and Brandon Meriweather and fullback James Bryant.

 

"I don't have many bad days," Coker said Sunday. "This is a bad day."

 

The fight marred what was supposed to be the beginning of a friendly rivalry between two schools with players who grew up battling each other on high school fields in South Florida.

 

But even after reviewing tape, it's impossible to say when tensions began escalating ? although Coker said there was an incident during pregame warmups where an FIU player collided with a Miami player. He declined to identify which players were involved.

 

There were many instances of heated words being exchanged from the game's opening minutes, especially after FIU's Chandler Williams - one of the eight Golden Panthers who'd later be ejected - dived helmet-first at prone Miami defender Kenny Phillips following a first-quarter interception.

 

But later, unsportsmanlike turned into unruly ? or worse.

 

Bryant pointed at the FIU bench and bowed to the crowd after catching a touchdown pass with 9 minutes left in the third quarter - which earned his suspension, Coker said.

 

"He needs to get the message," Coker said.

 

After the Miami extra point put the Hurricanes up 14-0, pushing and shoving broke out among linemen. Moments later, FIU's Chris Smith wrestled Miami holder Matt Perrelli to the ground and punched him in the chin.

 

With that, the fracas was on.

 

FIU's Marshall McDuffie Jr. charged in and kicked Perrelli in the helmet. Miami lineman Derrick Morse jumped onto the Smith-Perrelli pile, FIU's Lionel Singleton followed suit and threw a punch toward the head of the Hurricanes' Calais Campbell - and benches began to empty.

 

Several players appeared to throw punches, including Miami's Bryant, DajLeon Farr and Ryan Hill, and Meriweather was seen attempting to stomp on FIU players.

 

Reddick charged across the field, helmet raised high over his head, and slammed it into FIU cornerback Robert Mitchell.

 

Florida International's ejected players were Williams, Singleton, Smith, McDuffie Jr., fullback John Ellis, linebacker Mannie Wellington, tight end Samuel Smith and defensive end Jarvis Penerton.
