Just heard it on the pregame show

Run for your lives!!! :o

I guess Obermueller is out of the rotation?

I wouldn't take him out as long as he keeps pitching well. He has pitched better than any starter other than Mitre.

This could be great, or horrifically painful.

what the hell? wes has pitched better than everyone but mitre. so move him to the pen... right. so stupid. i swear this team has no idea of how to put their players in the best position to win.

I think he might just be OK...

5GS in the PCL this year

24.1 IP, 21H, 8ER, 2HR, 11BB, 31K, 2.96ERA

both the homers were hit by lefties but he actually pitched better overall against them.

Very small sample size but here's what I think we'll get from Kim.

ERA around mid-4s, good K numbers, lot of walks, and power numbers from lefties. we'll see.

I am no longer a fan.

We never know all the factors that go into a manager's decision on his pitcher's. But barring some injury or other factor we don't know about I think this is a bad decision by Fredi. I'd rather see Kim in middle relief in Florida before he possibly started.

It's Willis, Wes, Scotty, and Mitre, and Nolasco, who am I missing? Are you sure Wes is going to the Pen?

Also, I have some faith in Kim, he isn't pitching at Homer Happy Coors Field. Now he gets to pitch in a pitcher's park, hopefully that does something. Besides, he wans't that bad of a starter for Boston back in 03.

Wes will stay with the club in the bullpen. I like him as an innings eater out there

I'd almost keep Wes in the rotation and put Nolasco in the 'pen.

I don't see why. Wes hasn't been able to get deep into games, only once going 6 innings. The last time he actually got actual starts, back in 2004, he only averaged about 5 1/3rd innings per start. Our bullpen is overworked, we need our starters to start being inning-eaters.

Plus, Nolasco is 24 and up-and-coming, pitching well in 2 of 3 games since coming back, and having the best control of the 4 sophmores last year looking at BB/9, BB/K ratios...Wes is 30 years old with a career 5.65 ERA coming into the year. He's done well in 4 starts he's made, no doubt, but he also doesn't have a good track record.

I'll be pissed if Wes gets put in the bullpen and Kim takes his spot, but I'd rather see Nolasco in the rotation then Wes.

I am in full agreement with you there. Fredi has been forced to trot out the guns in blowouts far too often.

Something tells me if he were to keep going in the third game, with three hits and three walks in four innings, he would've eventually got shelled, but for argument's sake, I'll give you two of three.

However, you're bringing up a lot of reasons from the past why Wes shouldn't start. Yes, he doesn't go deep (and I think he could go deeper), but he keeps the team in the game while he's out there before turning it over to the 'pen. Wes has been much more consistent than Ricky this year, and that's what I'd be looking for in a starting pitcher rght now, consistency.

Yes, Ricky is up-and-coming, but that shouldn't be a reason to keep him in the rotation. Does he have more of a long-term future here than Wes? Absolutely. And I'm not suggesting Ricky be banished to the 'pen permenately, just ride the hot hand, which right now, seems to be Wes.

I agree with most of what you're saying, I just don't think both have had enough time to really "prove" themself. Don't get me wrong, Wes has been real good in the 4 starts he's made. But 4 starts isn't much, and he has a bad track record. Given the option between the 30 year old who was poor in the past, and a 24 year old who had an average year last year, with neither pitching much so far this year, I'd choose the 24 year old. But if Wes got the role, it deffinatly wouldn't be the end of the world.

But Kim is now set as the probable starter for Friday (I know it was talked about earlier, but nothing actually linked, and I was looking at probable pitchers for the TB series and saw him slotted for Friday's game), and I think it's bulls*** that Wes loses his role. He didn't do anything to lose it. What's with giving bad players traded for roles that other members had already earned?

Yeah, I agree, but the good thing is, if you give the role to Wes over Nolasco and he does end up being like his former self rather than the one last year, you can simply have him switch places with Nolasco- Wes to the 'pen and Ricky to the rotation. Or vice-versa.

I'd almost keep Wes in the rotation and put Nolasco in the 'pen.

I agree, somewhat - I kind of want to see Nolasco pitch a full season, I think he'll find a nice stride.

Why not just keep the rotation the way it is and add BY as a RH specialist out of the pen? The guy can handle RHers as well as anyone in our pen.. but the minute he touches LH, it goes down hill, to say the least. Look at the splits.. they are quite disgusting.

I just think Wes has done enough to earn his spot until JJ comes back.. and when that times come, RN better have pitched his way to a spot or WO should stay there. I just hope this just isnt another move detrimental to our team because we cant accept defeat on a previous trade.

I like the thought of Obie as long relief. We really haven't had one of them this year. And the way our starters struggle to get through 5 innings we need one. BK has never held that role before. Starter or closer. If one of our pitchers struggle in a couple games Wes can be brought back into the rotation. Until then long relief is a great role for him.

kim is gonna have a performance that will make hee seop choi proud.

Why does Fredi keep on doing these things? He is naming BYK as his starter without even seeing what he is ready to bring to the table. If he needs someone for a start how about Mildren who happens to be starting in triple A

I kinda like this, not because I'm high on Kim, just that I'm not sold at all on Obermueller, I just keep seing flashes of Brian Moehler.

What makes you think Fredi makes these decisions?

That's a 100% the manager's decision

100% huh? Come on now.. i think you're being a tad bit nieve. You think him sticking with julio was 100% his call, when we had a pen full of performing arms.. and not a move made by the stubbornness of our front office? While starting BK is not nearly as severe as julio to closer, one has to wonder if it is entirely his call.
