July 15, 200718 yr how bout cabs to lf sense hes bad defensively at 3b, keep hanley at ss, a-rod to 3rd...its simpler Or how about hanley to CF, Cabrara stays at 3rd, and A-rod goes back to SS. A-rod was the best SS in baseball. I think he should go back to his original position.
July 15, 200718 yr use the $30 million for the funding gap, that is the most important thing right now.
July 15, 200718 yr our attendance will increase in a heartbeat. Wasn't Carlos Delgado supposed to do the same? Carlos isnt anywhere as big as A-Rod our attendance will increase in a heartbeat. Wasn't Carlos Delgado supposed to do the same? Are you really comparing Delgado and A-Rod? Not at all. I'm just trying to say that it doesn't matter who you bring in with this fanbase because they still won't come out to the park even if his name is Alex Rodriguez.
July 15, 200718 yr It's wishful thinking, but it wont happen. If we can't fill the 30 mil funding gap for the stadium, how can we pay a-rod 30 mil? Even though Alex is from miami, and that mioght affect his decision making a bit, it wont happen until the stadium gets done, and if our stadium deal gets done, it would still be a long shot for a-rod. But if we somehow get him, I'll go absolutly nuts, and be so excited. Maybe Steinbrenner can hap pay for the stadium. :mischief2 But it sadly wont happen
July 15, 200718 yr ....and for those of you suggesting we sign him to a one year or two year contract.....GET REAL!!!...there's no way A-Rod takes a contract that small after the kind of season he's having....players sign short-term contracts when they've had a sub-par season, and there's limited interest in them on the FA market.
July 15, 200718 yr Hahaha A-Rod as a fish thats pretty damn funny. First off our front office is to damn cheap to pull out 30 million+ a year to pay for a player such as A-Rod. Second A-Rod would most likely want to go to a huge fan base market such as the Red Sox. And third it wont happen. :cool
July 15, 200718 yr Before we start thinking about A-Rod why not lock up Cabrera and Hanley to a nice deal, afterwards we can go after A-rod,big papi, and pujols
July 15, 200718 yr Can anyone else even verify the mentioning of A-Rod and the Marlins? Because I just talked to one of my friends who sits around and watches ESPN all day, and he said he watched this segment. It mentioned teams like the Yankees, and Angels, with no mention whatsoever of the Marlins.

Because I just talked to one of my friends who sits around and watches ESPN all day, and he said he watched this segment. It mentioned teams like the Yankees, and Angels, with no mention whatsoever of the Marlins. Im pretty sure it was just a misunderstanding. I doubt ESPN even mentioned anything about the Marlins(haters) and it would make no sense that A-rod to the Marlin talks are even happening.
July 15, 200718 yr There is about a 1% chance of this happening, but I can't help but daydream... imagine the attendance.
July 15, 200718 yr There is about a 1% chance of this happening, but I can't help but daydream... imagine the attendance. Our attendance would easily be over 18k every game.
July 15, 200718 yr There is about a 1% chance of this happening, but I can't help but daydream... imagine the attendance. SO YOUR SAYING THERES A CHANCE??? :notworthy lol
July 16, 200718 yr Not that he will sign here, or that we would seek him. But I really do wonder if he would give us a hometown discount. Obviously would still be huge, but mils' are mils' But than again, Boras client. Hometown discount? I dont think so. He wants to play somewhere where he can have a chance to win a world series, not play in front of 15,000 fans. 2003? Since when does attendance have anything to do with WINS?
July 16, 200718 yr Second A-Rod would most likely want to go to a huge fan base market such as the Red Sox. And third it wont happen. :cool I'm pretty sure that's the one thing A-Rod doesn't really want. Who has a bigger fan base than New York? That town has put him through HELL. Texas and Seattle seemed to be good for him. Places that aren't big markets, and he doesn't have a microscope on him, but he still puts up those Hall of Fame numbers.

Haha, very true, A-Rod would draw a big crowd for about 2 weeks, then back to the usual. Can anyone else even verify the mentioning of A-Rod and the Marlins? Because I just talked to one of my friends who sits around and watches ESPN all day, and he said he watched this segment. It mentioned teams like the Yankees, and Angels, with no mention whatsoever of the Marlins. I'm not gonna call 22letsgomarlins10 a liar, but I watched both editions of Baseball Tonight last night, and I remember the A-Rod conversation but I don't recall anything about the Marlins even being mentioned.
July 16, 200718 yr Florida had contacted Texas and had interest in A-Rod a couple years back i believe.

That team came out of no where. If AROD is going to get paid no matter where he goes, why would he take less money to play for the marlins and play for a team thats (on paper) not that good. He would be much better off going to either LA team, Mets, Red Sox or Detroit if he was serious about winning. Unless the marlins outbid for him (not likely) the marlins really cant offer him anything.
July 16, 200718 yr Author It was not a mis-understanding Tim Kurkjian said it during ESPN when after they showed a Yankee highlight they brought up him opting out i didnt hear him say the florida marlins but i heard him say Willingham and help a new stadium deal down there in south florida..

Unless the marlins outbid for him (not likely) the marlins really cant offer him anything. The Marlins can offer him a bit less because Florida has no state income tax, but I wouldn't call that a hometown discount. Here's a thought though...assuming ARod is going to get the largest contract in history when he opts out, maybe he'd go to a team like the Marlins where he can take a little bit less but still have the largest contract ever. That would deflect some of the criticism he had in Texas as the No. 1 paid player. He could always say "well, I took less to go home and play in Miami." That way it wouldn't LOOK like it was all about the money (when, in fact, it really is all about the money). Anyway, I think the Marlins would never do this in a million years, and I'd be adamantly against it if they did. Just sign Cabs please and call it a day.
