July 17, 200719 yr part of me thinks that Scotty-O is punching his ticket out of Florida....the Rays could only put up with so much of Elijah Dukes.....the Cubs could only put up with so much of Michael Barrett....before long, Olsen won't be able to get along with anyone on the team....trade him now to the Rays for a CF before he gets the reputation of a Barrett or Dukes and it becomes difficult to trade him...
July 17, 200719 yr I've always wanted to say this so im just gonna say it and then get bashed for it.... Olsen looks like such a stoner to me.
July 17, 200719 yr I don't care what anyone says... If you get rid of Olsen, you are making a big, BIG mistake.
July 17, 200719 yr I've always wanted to say this so im just gonna say it and then get bashed for it.... Olsen looks like such a stoner to me. Yeah I feel ya....he talks like a major burnout. And if the report is true that he had words with Mitre after Mitre tried to console him, I am really over Olsen. He's severly lacking in the mental make-up department to ever be a force to be reckoned with in MLB.
July 17, 200719 yr I don't care what anyone says... If you get rid of Olsen, you are making a big, BIG mistake. Absolutely! He is temperamental but we need players to get mad about now
July 17, 200719 yr i'd send him down if we weren't starved for pitching. i like emotion, but you gotta draw the line somewhere and enough is getting to be enough. it's time for him to grow up and he better get it soon.
July 17, 200719 yr Better article in this morning's PBP. And it makes alot more sense. The guy needs a butt kicking for treating others like they are his personal slave or something and for putting himself above someone else. Kudos to Sergio for taking action. Shame on the rest of the team for breaking them apart. This kid has shown flashes of what he can actually do. And that is he can be a #2 or #3 starter. But his immaturity rises up and his skills dwindle every time. I don't exactly agree with the AJ comparison, but I sure can see why alot of you do. AJ wouldn't listen to his coaches and catcher because he thought he knew more than they did. AJ wasn't and still isn't coachable. Scotty has listened but just can't get past that childish attitude. He let's the other team, players, his own defense's errors behind him, the umps, and anything else get into his head and then it's a meltdown. I would bet the kid goes on the trading block.

July 17, 200719 yr Haha amazing thread. When someone f's up in baseball, football, any sport, even in business... Not everyone reacts the same way to being consoled. As a junior tennis player growing up, the last thing I wanted to hear was my coach, my parents, my friends blabbing in my ear. I just wanted to be left alone. Scotty has that same mentality. Some need tough love, others need to be coddled. Those giving up on Olsen because of this little nothing flare up are idiots. Boys will be boys. He still has awesome talent and is still very young. It's fine to not like him or his attitude, but it would be beyong retarded to trade this guy. Or even consider it.

July 17, 200719 yr It' really not hard to believe at all. We've all been "there" when the littlest thing sets us off.
July 17, 200719 yr It' really not hard to believe at all. We've all been "there" when the littlest thing sets us off. Yeah, we've all been there. But when this sort of thing happens routinely with one person and nobody else, it's no longer acceptable. Not that I'm saying he should be traded. That's ridiculous. He certainly needs discipline though. And I'd have no problem suspending him and his pay for two weeks.

He was disrespectful to the attendant and Mitre let him know he shouldn't treat people that way. That attendant is not his slave. I'm sorry, but he was out of line, and Mitre was right to get in his face. If anything, I would have loved to see Mitre absolutely tear his ass up.
July 17, 200719 yr Sooner or later someone is going to seriously kick his butt beyond just a black eye. It's almost like he's begging for it. I remember after the Cabrera incident he said he immediately apologized to Miggy and even laughed at his behavior after the fact. He seems like one of those people who just lose it big time and then get over it. I wonder if he has apologized to Mitre. I can completely understand why Girardi grabbed him the way he did last season. A lot of people criticized that public display but you have to figure he had reached the end of his rope.
July 17, 200719 yr Olsen has anger management issues. Period. He has probably behaved like this all his life and no one has ever been able to control him. Having no older, established, veteran stars in the starting rotation probably leads to this kind of behavior in "young and restless" individuals like Olsen and AJ. He reminds me of Kevin Brown. The difference being that Brown, at least, had earned the right to have his anger outburst. Olsen does have potential, but he is no Kevin Brown. He needs to learn to control himself for the benefit of the team. This suspension should be repeated if he fails to improve. I am sure that the front office had discussions with him after the Messinger, Cabrera, and finger to the crowd events.
July 17, 200719 yr I dunno, maybe I'm of a completely different mind-set, but I don't give a crap what he does once he's out of the game. It's not like he did this in the 3rd inning. His problem isn't his attitude, or his mental makeup or his temper, his problem is he's got an underwhelming fastball and a so-so slider. Two pitch pitchers don't do so hot.
July 17, 200719 yr You can only hope he comes back Wednesday with something more to prove to himself and his teammates and pitches a gem Friday night. I've always thought he had good stuff but needed to control himself more both in pitch command and emotionally. I'm willing to give him another shot especially with the lack of quality starters we have.

You don't think his temper effects him on the field? I've seen many games where he loses his cool on the mound and then starts to unravel. There is nothing wrong with having some fire and being competitive, but when it starts to effect your performance and team chemistry, it needs to be resolved.
July 17, 200719 yr I hope someone punches him the face one day. Maybe he can use these next few days off to work on his acting skills. Put some of that extra time to good use.

This is from the Herald: Eyewitnesses, who asked not to be identified, said Mitre was trying to calm Olsen, who was upset over a broken button on his uniform top. Palm Beach Post article: The trouble apparently began with a faulty button on Olsen's jersey. After Olsen came off the mound in the middle of the fifth inning, he tore off his jersey, threw it at a clubhouse attendant and demanded a new one. Sources said Mitre admonished Olsen for his behavior. That led to the scuffle while third baseman Miguel Cabrera was at bat.
