Also, possibly Cabrera (hate to say it)? Do you think teams had an inclination about who on their team would be on it before the winter meetings and thats why they may have traded certain players?

Rolen, however, has roider written all over him...and Cardinals fans will die a little inside if he is on the list. A season of peak performance far past anything he had ever done followed by regular injuries. I would say his attitude as well, but Rolen has always been a primadonna jackass...so thats not really an indicator for him.

Happy because the cheaters are finally gonna get dealt with...

And sad because there's going to probably be alot of people's hero's on that list tommorow...

according to sportscenter the report is saying "you (mlb+mlbpa) f***ed up, you let this happen, stop bitching about it and clean this up. here's how..."

This is so pointless.. I can't wait for all this crap to end. We know some players were on steroids. Who cares?? Now that there's actual testing in MLB, let the new policies work. Why get into details of what we already know happened? Why suspend players now for something they did years ago and haven't done since... I can't believe how much time and money has been wasted on simply researching who may have been "cheating" in the past.. Let's just move forward...

I agree totally. That article I linked earlier talked about how the report was supposed to analyze the culture of baseball and come up with recommendations for how future situations can be averted. But everyone talked to seemed to think the focus was purely on naming names--that was the point of the quote I pulled out there. They talked to a trainer and pressured him to guess people who had used steroids. They didn't ask him based on his experience how he thought steroid use could be eliminated, or what steps would move in that direction.

 

It's not even so much the tactics used in the investigation, it's that the focus appears to have been wrong. If all they did was run around to all the teams and say "come up with guys you think were on steroids" and then investigate those people and see what turned up, it was a huge waste.

 

And I'd be shocked if you could punish someone based on evidence contained in the report if it refers to events prior to steroids being banned in baseball.

Mitchell was the driving force behind ending years of conflict between the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland and he won the Presidential Medal of Freedom for it. I'm sure a report on baseball's steroid use is going to prove too much for him to handle and he won't issue the report in a responsible and way that benefits the league, its players, and the fans.

 

I love how Mitchell's integrity has been dragged through the mud before the thing has even been released based on little more than an ESPN collumn.

 

Why would a trainer need to be asked what his opinions or feelings on cleaning up the game for? I don't see the connection or what that person would bring to the table. I would think collecting evidence, opinions, etc. would then bring out a recommendation to cleaning up the game. Also, did Bryant (writer of aforementioned ESPN.com article) interview or come in to contact with everyone involved in this? How would he know without seeing the report himself?

 

My father rarely talks highly of politicians or national figures but I know one man he holds in high regard is George Mitchell who is part of a dying breed of people who selflessly served this country in a variety of ways. To blast idle speculation and conjecture on to him and this report seems off base and irresponsible.

I doubt he'd seen the finished report, but it appeared (and Bryant stated as much) that ESPN tried to track down as many team officials as they could find who had been interviewed by investigators and then talked to Mitchell himself for the last 3 weeks. Many of the officials were originally in favor of the report, but found that the people brought in to talk to them were a bit out of their depth. Maybe despite all this, the finished product will be illuminating and provide for a way forward. But when you see quotes like this, it doesn't fill you with much confidence.

"They asked us how players could have had drugs in the clubhouse without our knowledge," one trainer said. "Some of the stuff was the stupidest stuff you'd ever heard. They'd just asked the wrong questions, and you'd walk out of that interview room with a smile on your face because you knew they didn't know what to ask. Somebody should have told them that a shipment of drugs doesn't have a sticker on top of it that says 'steroids.'"

Wait. Until. The. Report. Comes. Out.

ESPN's 'investigative' reporting has always been 100% accurate in the past. If the report is good (which I have no idea, but I won't question a man's integrity after what he has done throughout his life) I expect no retraction by anyone just like there has been none in the past when they post slanderous things and their 'sources' don't prove to be that accurate.

This whole thing just doesnt interest me but I'll be insanely annoyed tomorrow when there is a mass hysteria of idiots acting like they didnt know.

Maybe I'm missing something here, but why so much expectation on big names being named?
