April 3, 200818 yr Mark Hendrickson,Rick VandenHurk ,Andrew Miller all only last 5 innng we need save our bullpen with three game been play i heard that olson will be back by friday that could good or bad depending how he play my question what need to done keep starter from only lasting 5 ining?????????
April 3, 200818 yr Yeah this starting pitching doesn't look too good, they have all gotten hammered. Bring BK back!!! and even take a look at claudio vargas....its better to leave the veterans out there to get hammered and leave the young guns down in the minors IMO
April 3, 200818 yr is bk still available? I'd rather have John Patterson if we're gonna sign someone. :mis2
April 3, 200818 yr is bk still available? Yes. I am also hoping that Nolasco will be a bit more solid, at least in terms of going at least 6 innings. Hendrickson should also do at least a bit better than opening day. We need to also remember that as much as we hate them, the Mets do have a pretty good offense, especially 1-5 in their lineup. At this rate we'll need to be constantly rotating bullpen arms in and out of the majors.
April 3, 200818 yr Yea it has not been a healthy showing so far, but at least the bullpen can hold its own (except maybe today). It's only the first week though, it's as if they were still in ST. I am hopeful that they will find some kind of equilibrium as the season goes on.
April 3, 200818 yr Author is Hendrickson going stay as starter or when their go on road their use olson as starter?????
April 3, 200818 yr is Hendrickson going stay as starter or when their go on road their use olson as starter????? I hope Hendrickson leaves the team...or at least goes to the bullpen for long relief.
April 3, 200818 yr this will be the year we really bomb, the rotation has never looked so bad and the pen will keep self-imploding like this from constant overuse. Until we have a healthy rotation with Olsen, Sanchez and Johnson, this team will be hopeless and its a shame. The offense becomes a huge bust without cabrera too. oh well
April 3, 200818 yr Hendrickson is going to be a starter until Mitre comes back and/or they call up some of the kids later in the season. Just have to hope he can go 6+ most nights, even if he gives up 4 runs.
April 3, 200818 yr He didn't do to bad with the rays previously so there could be some type of hope, and its not like he got shitted on by some crappy offense like the Giant's either. Either way, i agree it would be gret to see mitre again

Until we have a healthy rotation with Olsen, Sanchez and Johnson, this team will be hopeless and its a shame. The offense becomes a huge bust without cabrera too. oh well Eh, I think the offense will be ok. Uggla will still get enough good pitches to mash 30 HRs or so in the #2 spot, Jake will do ok if he can stay healthy, Hammer will still do his thing, and Hanley will only get better. Hopefully Hermida will get and stay healthy and he can shine as well. Pitching will be THE problem. We have no one who can reliably work deep into games. Olsen will have his days, but he's still not gonna log the kind of innings D-Train did. At this point I almost think we'll need to carry like 3 long relivers or something drastic. Maybe they'll move Gregg back to long relief because with the current situation as is, there's not gonna be much in the way of save opportunities anyway. It would be nice to have back Sanchez and Mitre, but I'd still be dead scared of wearing them out again. But, yeah we need some good healthy arms before we worry about protecting them.
April 3, 200818 yr Anyone who thought this team was going to be good is a crazy person. Just get used to the fact that we are a bad team, and hope that Miller develops into something decent and that Maybin does as well. half the people on this team's roster would not even make most major league teams. We are the worst team in the NL and I suggest that you eternal optimists stop hoping for wins and start looking for the bits of tasty food in this puddle of chunky vomit. Stop whining about the starting rotation. They go 4 innings a night because they are bad. Mark Hendrickson SUCKS. Rick Vanden Hurk has 2 pitches and if he is struggling with one of them he is screwed. Andrew Miller can't throw strikes and doesn't throw as hard as some of you seem to think he does. Scott Olsen is average at best. And then there is Nolasco, who can give you a few good innings here and there. 20 million dollar payroll = bad team. You get what you pay for. Anyone who is expecting wins should just stop watching this team and buy an XBox so they can build a nice roster for your simulated Marlins. This team sucks. Stop whining about the rotation. I bitch about the way the team is put together, but I'm not going to bitch about the results. There is no solution to the problem right now. There is nobody in the organization who can do the job in a satisfactory way, and we aren't going to go out and spend any money on someone who can. Get used to losing. No. :thumbup

April 3, 200818 yr we are 3 games into the season , can we wait at least another week before everyone is ready to jump off the bridge . I hate the smets and their obnoxious fan but the reality is they are a good team with a very good line up . face facts we dont match up well with them . I think we will play better against the Pirates and nationals .
April 3, 200818 yr Who couldn't have seen this coming? Vanden Hurk hasn't ever been able to go deep in games, and Andrew Miller only throws strikes when he is lucky. It's a travesty that either one was given a rotation spot. Both need a lot of triple A time to work on things but I guess the FO is afraid of hurting their feelings. Some people have said that Miller would have nothing to learn from Triple A because he would blow away everyone. That simply isn't true, because you can't blow guys away when you're not throwing strikes.
April 3, 200818 yr Not much until guys start getting healthy. In the meantime, we just have to ride it out.

Some people have said that Miller would have nothing to learn from Triple A because he would blow away everyone. That simply isn't true, because you can't blow guys away when you're not throwing strikes. That's not it. The thing is - if you send them down, who do we really have to put in the rotation? You can argue maybe Barone & Volstad? Volstad just for having a good spring and finishing strong and Barone on account of having put in some (relatively) decent work last season, but that would still leave us with a bad rotation. Ultimately the problem is that 3 of our 5 potentially good pitchers are injured and are going to remain injured for at least a while. JJ, Sanchez, and Mitre, if they were all healthy and ready to throw say 150 innings this season, we might have something, and even then, I'd argue we should still throw in another starter to give them some extra rest as often as such is feasible. Miller and Hurk are up because the guys who should be are all injured.

Vanden Hurk wasn't ever talked about going back down to the minors either. The solution isn't apparent, but thats the fault of the FO as much as anything. Certainly, its easy to say that Volstad would have done just as well. I'd have him on speed dial for sure. That we signed Hendrickson is another joke- if we were going to sign someone, why make it somebody who is absolutely horrible? Good SP is horribly expensive, but there are a surprising number of average guys that sign for cheap. Jon Lieber was pretty much signed on a minor league deal. Or we could have just re-signed Kim. Personally, I'm upset that Petit was traded for Julio. He was probably over-rated, but trading a SP for a reliever (and a bad one at that) when we actually had a lot of intriguing relievers last year was a horrible decision.

I'd hate to imagine what it must feel like to be Garbageman61. Walking around all day with a dark cloud over head. Pissed off at the world. The one thing he can actually enjoy in life are his Marlins, but he can't because he's too pissed off at the way this team is put together. Oh!!! The horror!!!! Dude relax. You're like one Duncan Sheik song away from jumping out a window. It's only a game. I wasn't around these boards in 03 when we won the WS, but I bet your attitude must have been the same as it is today when that season started. Especially after that awful start. Just a guess on my part. It's only three games. Olsen and Nolasco should be solid this year. I know you hate Hendrickson but he will also be serviceable. He can get into the 6th most of the time. Truth be known he only had one bad inning on Monday against a potent lineup. I also believe that Miller will only get better as the season wears on. My biggest concern is RVH. I think he needs some time in AAA. He's dominated AA, and single A but he is not ready for the show. We have Badenhop and Volstad ready to make the jump. If you want to be really honest, they probably earned spots in the rotation this spring ahead of both Miller, and RVH. Unfortunately other circumstances factored into the equation when finalizing the roster. As for the offense, we are of to a slow start but the power is still there. Jacobs, Cantu, and Willy will all hit above .200. Johan, and an effective Perez can make you look bad. A better test as to how we will hold up this season will be this weekend against the Pirates and Nationals. Those are two teams we should beat in my opinion. Besides, taking 1 of 3 from the Mets is hardly the end of the world. All will sort itself out in due time, and we will have a fun, productive, and competitive season. If you still want to be down on the season after three games, let me know, and I'll come by and kick your dog just for the heck of it...
