Tee Ball Bunt Machine
The ESPN rankings were discussed on here already. Still, I find it funny that every single one of these rankings has us, a division leading team ranked lower than MLB's worst team so far, our favorite trading partners, the Detroit Tigers. I mean Hell, the sub-500 Dodgers are #5 on the Fox Rankings. And then even the Cardinals with their best record in MLB (tied with Arzona) can't even crack their top 15. Go figure. Or how about the 4-games-below-500 Indians? They make the top ten on everyone's list? Maybe I'm missing the point somehow, but what exactly are these "rankings" supposed to reflect? SoFlaFish
Maybe I'm missing the point somehow, but what exactly are these "rankings" supposed to reflect? The opinions of the interns at ESPN and Fox Sports that write these up.
305_FishFanatic
I dont see how the Rays have a better team than the marlins. Thats why i dont pay attention to these power rankings. I just look at the standings and right now the marlins just so happen to be in first by a 1 & 1/2 games
Dr Beinfest
So god damn rediculous... I hate sports media and how they treat us, they do this to us in every sport. We should be in the top 15 atleast, for this power ranking. Thats not to say next time up they cant drop us... but since when were we not hot? ANOTHER add on guys, just look at the REGULAR rankings and stick it into ESPN's face

Tee Ball Bunt Machine
You would think a division leader with one of the best offenses in baseball could at least make the top half somewhere.
EricWiener
If we are still winning at a .550 -.600 clip in May we will start to climb. Otherwise they are just shuffling the top 10 around

UltimateCabrera24
I happen to think that it's accurate. Should the Tigers be ranked #30 right now? This sort of production needs to be sustained over a longer period of time before your perceived strength of the team is changed. The Marlins in the bottom 10-15% is completely accurate. I'm sorry, but it is.
Hotcorner
CNN/SI ranked the Marlins #9 in their most recent list. but who cares anyway.

I don't completely disagree with you, but aren't these rankings supposed to reflect the state of what's happening at the moment? If not, then why do the list teams moving up and down each week? We should be ranked in the top half of these things based on the first two weeks of the year.

I'm sorry, but it is. If it was the Washington Nationals or the Pittsburgh Pirates or the Kansas City Royals, wouldn't they be? I mean the worst record in MLB, in the bottom 5 among teams in runs scored and the worst team ERA in the majors (yes, almost a full run worse than us, and that's probably without today's stats included). I'm not saying it will stay that way, but as of right now (or when the rankings were written) the Tigers were/are the weakest team right now, and inconsistency and injury are gonna get in the way of their effort to dig themselves out of the early hole. Even if you don't agree with that, why not this: The Marlins have one of the (currently) most productive offenses in MLB and one of the most solid bullpens as well, along with the lead in their division. Shouldn't that at least get you ranked in the top 50% of teams?

Trey05Marlins
So how much do you think ESPN will move us up if we finish the sweep of the Braves tonight? Do I hear one, maybe two? What's that, zero?

Trey05Marlins
I found these power rankings on Bugs and Cranks. I don't usually read that site because they never mention the Marlins, but I like these rankings, plus the descriptions for each team are midlly amusing. SoFlaFish
I propose we BAN these "Power Rankings" threads until MLB decides to implement a BCS style system for the postseason where the eligibility for teams is determined by the SI.com, ESPN.com, FoxSports.com, and CBSSportsline.com computer polls! Could we please stop wasting our "virtual breath" and actual bandwidth with useless arguments about a useless thing!?!?
TheDon
First Place. All that matters really. If you win more games than the other teams in your division, you go to the playoffs. It's pretty simple really.
