Schnellders
well it appears the right decision was made in regards to maybin starting the year in the minors 31 strikeouts in 70 at-bats in AA is not too promising to say the least, considering this is exactly the reason he is in Carolina - to cut down on striking out based on this when is a reasonable time to see him up in the majors? fanofthefish
When the strikeouts are lower than 1 for every two at bats.
Marlins2003
He gets a fair number of walks as well which leads me to believe he's learning the strike zone better and needs to work hitting breaking balls. I've listened to a couple of games in the last week and his defense is pretty good and getting better all the time. I have little fear he won't eventually be as advertised, but it's going to take time.
PitchingWinsGames
Everything I've read/heard says it's the breaking ball as well... Im with 2003 on this one, he'll be good, and pretty soon. But pretty soon may not quite mean this year
EricWiener
I would ignore his AA SO's, because he's working on strike zone skills, as a result he's going to be rung up more than if he were just knocking the ball around.

Hotcorner
Is there any thinking he'll wind up being Preston Wilson at the plate?

Piazza31
sh*t.....lets all hop off this float before the parade comes to an end. (why not relax, and see how he develops this WHOLE year?)
MarlinFan10
Well in that case, he'll fit right in with the major league club.
MarlinsLou
Is there any thinking he'll wind up being Preston Wilson at the plate? Looks that way. Looks that way? HE IS 21 YEARS OLD!!!!!!! In AA! bashing and walking! Jesus. When Preston was 21, he was OPSing 700s in A/A+. Take a lesson from Frankie Goes to Hollywood.

The_Godfather
Strike outs as a negative are overrated. It's not a big deal. As long as he is showing power (he is) and walking (he is) he will be fine. Look how many times an Alex Rodriguez or Miguel Cabrera strikes out every year. Nny
Strikeouts may be overstated but they're still negatively impactful, and those players you named have good BB/K ratios. Yes, he's walking, and that's great and all, but he's always walked well, and he's K rate IS alarming. His BB/K ratio (.452) is online with what he's done the rest of his previous two years (.488), actually slightly worse. Also something to keep in mind is that BB/K almost always gets worse in the jump from minors to majors (Lower BB%, higher K%). I'm just praying he doesn't become the next Delmon young. I mean, Maybin's walked more in the minors (12.6% v.s. 6.3%...exactly half haha) and had a better BB/K ratio (.483 vs .342), but he has a worse K percent (26.0% vs 18.4%) and the whole "free swinger on breaking balls" deal...I mean, delmon still walked ok in the minors, than has walked a grand total of 3% of the time in the majors with a gaudy .182 BB/K ratio. I mean, they're not very good comparables, but I can't stop thinking about that haha.

Nny
Other thing that concern me greatly: High GB%, low LD% many of his hits are infield singles he can beat out because of his speed. that's not going to happen at the major league level if his LD% doesn't pick up, me = worried on the flip side, many do think it will
