Greatest hitter to ever wear a Marlins uniform?

Featured Replies

Four straight seasons of 25+ home runs, 110+ RBIs, 175+ hits, and 30+ doubles for Miguel Cabrera gets my vote. Without looking, I don't think any other Marlin has accomplished the same thing.

Is the question is who is the greatest career hitter to play for the Marlins or just the greatest hitter during their time as a Marlin?

If it is the hitter with the greatest overall career to have been a Marlin, then it has to be either Sheffield or Piazza. Both are Hall of Famers. You could even make a case for Andre Dawson.

As for the greatest Marlins-only hitter ever, it can only be either Sheff or Miggy. Hanley will soon join the list, but the others aren't really even close to those two.

Can we clarify the question? Is this only with their time for the Marlins? Because, Sheffield has done a LOT but not all with the Marlins.

Yeah, it's meant to be with their time with the Marlins.

Andre Dawson, Mike Piazza, Tim Raines need to be considered as well. I was conflicted between Cabrera and Dawson but I considered the longevity of production of Dawson. It would have to be Dawson. However the best player to donn a Marlins jersey was Ivan Rodriguez

Without a doubt... Miguel Cabrera.

If Hanley continues on this pace for the next 5 years or so, he might make it close, but right now it's not even close. Miguel Cabrera is the best hitter to play for the Marlins, ever.

Top 5 hitters to don a Marlins Uni (Including everything they've done outside of time here):

1. Gary Sheffield

2. Mike Piazza (though it's damn close. Sheff's edge in OBP gives it to him)

3. Carlos Delgado

4. Tim Raines

5. Ivan Rodriguez

That will change, with Cabrera and Hanley both making serious runs at the top 2 spots and if Derrek Lee doesn't get injured in 06, he's probably a top 5 candidate before he's done.

But, if I project the rest of the active player's careers, we're looking at something like this:

1. Cabrera

2. Sheffield

3. Piazza

4. Hanley

5. Delgado

6. Derrek Lee

7. Tim Raines

8. Ivan Rodriguez

9. Andre Dawson

10. Moises Alou

11. Bobby Bonilla

12. Cliff Floyd

13. Dan Uggla

14. Mike Lowell

15. Jeff Conine

This is retarded. The numbers are overwhelmingly in Cabrera's favor.

Practically the same OPS+ as Sheff and Piazza, but he hasn't had the late career decline phase like them, nor has he yet hit his prime. I'm inclined to agree with you, but I don't think it's a dumb question, as long as you don't do it just by what they did in a Marlins uni. If you do that, it's a two horse race between Cabrera and Sheffield, and I still might be inclined to take Sheffield if you just judge by their time here. Sheffield had by far the greatest season in Marlins history in 96 and would've taken the top 3 if 94-95 weren't shortened by a strike.

This is retarded. The numbers are overwhelmingly in Cabrera's favor.

It's really not. Gary Sheffield and Mike Piazza put up better numbers than a Miguel Cabrera, but putting ARTL in the equation, yea...Miguel is the best.

Hands down Sheff...Over time we might say Cabs or Hanley....but the way Cabs is going in Detroit, it aint lookin too good for him
