June 8, 200818 yr I believe we are getting on a roll, we can take tom w/o allowing griffey to get # 600( hopefully), and when the phillies come into town it'd be nice to series or sweep em
June 8, 200818 yr Tucker, Hanley, Uggla, Nelson. :notworthy It was a perfect game. Ramirez ignited the offense. He does hit much better leading off and the team does so much better, Good relief from Nelson. Tucker pitched great! If he gets his walks down he has Ace potential. Strong game from everyone, except for Fredi...I didn't understand why he PH for Nelson, unless he was gonna take him out anyway, I would have kept Nelson another inning

We don't want to overwork another reliever.

He was still under his pitch count and we could've rested the pen for one more inning.

We had control of the game then, no need to tax him any further on a hot day.
June 8, 200818 yr With guys like Kensing and Lindstrom struggling now (as well as Miller, who's been shaky all year), Nelson is earning himself a crucial spot in the bullpen. He reminds me a lot of Lee Gardner, with better velocity. Journeyman, but he throws strikes, and that's the key. Even our best relievers, like Pinto and Gregg, could learn a lot from him b/c Pinto and Gregg could dominate if they threw strikes, more consistently. Also great to have Tucker pitch well. It allows us to have another long-man in the pen (Hopper) if he keeps it up.
June 8, 200818 yr great game but I feel for everyone at the game that was not in the club level seating because i am sure they baked today
June 9, 200818 yr great game but I feel for everyone at the game that was not in the club level seating because i am sure they baked today We sure did -- and we loved every minute of it.

It was the right move it actually started a rally in the inning for the marlins

As a guy that thinks that Freddi has too quick of a hook, I think that was the right move. Let the kid leave with the lead and a big confidence boost. It will only boost his future performance.

Man, that's kinda funny, if you think about it. Last season, it was all about him leaving starters in too long. This season, he takes them out too early.

The kid is 21, threw 89 pitches about even for balls and strikes, high stress because it was his debut, family and friends in from California to watch, Jr going for # 600, close game, and a real hot day. What should his pitch count have been?? I was just glad Fredi let him finish the 5th to try for the win. And then almost 34 year old Nelson, who is basically a one inning guy, gave us 2 innings of his usual. Except he gave up his first walk as a Marlin. These guys are actually flesh and blood, not machines or images on a video game. IMO, Fredi handled this game perfectly. I find it unbelievable that anyone would second guess this one.

No, last season he was screwed by his rotation disintegrating and the guy that was brought in to close was a disaster. This team is much better than last year's team. The hitters are a season more mature, the bench is improved, etc. Right now, Freddi needs to find some faith in the starters so that whenever they are going strong, the can stay in there for 100-110 pitches and get us 6-7 rather than 5.
