August 8, 200818 yr How retarded is this? i don't care what they think but it's a laugher NL East: The clear edge goes to the Mets -- at least on paper. They only play seven road games after Sept. 3, and all seven are against non-contenders -- unless the Braves somehow play themselves back into the bidding. What's more, the Mets' only meetings with their division competitors -- the Phillies and Marlins -- are both at home. The Mets close out the final week at home; then again, that didn't seem to help them last September, did it? The Phils play 16 of their final 29 on the road, though they do have the luxury of playing their final six at home. Of the last three series with the Marlins and Mets, two are on the road, and the Phils still have a challenging seven-game West Coast roadie left, to say nothing of a four-game visit to Chicago to close out August. Florida's September schedule is split pretty evenly (12 home, 13 away). But with paltry attendance, can the Marlins count on much of a home-field advantage? For the second year in a row, they close out the season at Shea Stadium. This time, however, it might mean something for them.
August 8, 200818 yr yea... the mets having the advantage? no. if its not us, its most definitely Philly.... not the mucking futts
August 8, 200818 yr I didn't know attendance had so much to do with a team's performance. I think the Marlins have shown they can win in front of 10,000 people at Dolphin Stadium and in front of 40,000 elsewhere. I have never heard of this guy, and he sounds like he has no clue what he is talking about. Maybe get another profession, because home-field advantage dosen't win championships.
August 8, 200818 yr Home Field matters to an extent, it doesn't win u the division, he needs to look more at the recent play of the team and who they are playing in the future not where they are playing
August 8, 200818 yr Every article written about the Marlins from an outsider has to have a tidbit about attendance. We've had the attendance problem forever, and weve won two WS and now were in contention. So how could not having people there suddenly hurt us?
August 8, 200818 yr I'd be thrilled if it came down to that final series at Shea. Except the Mets will be out of it and just get the chance to play spoiler against us, who would be fighting the fillies or a wild card.

August 8, 200818 yr I like that the only strike we have against us is the amount of people in our stands. Doesn't ESPN know that 1 Marlin Fan is > than 100 Met or Philly fans?
August 8, 200818 yr i think it would really help the marlins players if more fans came to the games. yes, the marlins are ranked near the top on tv ratings but the players can't hear all the people watching from home cheering for them and showing them that we appretiate the way they're playing. also if they're not doing so well the fans in the stands would motivate them to try harder to win each game. it's just a shame that only 16,000 people come out per game to see the games for a team that's doing so well and still in competition, cheering them on could go a long way. although the number of fans that come to games should have nothing to do when anaylzing the possibility of winning a division. we have the best pitching in the NL East and just as good of an offense as the phillies.

If we did not play in a bathroom after someone took a hot shower, I bet more people would attend. I attend games. Sometimes I question why I bother going outside in South Florida though.

August 8, 200818 yr What Sean McAdam said sounds familiar? i remember steve phillips saying the same exact thing on BBTN. anyway, he does have a point when he says the advantage goes to the mets schedule wise. But good teams win anywhere, and thats what i expect the marlins to do.
August 8, 200818 yr Besides, if come September we are in contention, and God forbid Sean McAdam, first place, I'm sure the fans (bandwagonners and loyal) will come out to the stadium.
August 8, 200818 yr The Marlins have the 6th best road record in all of baseball (28-28), and the Phillies have the 3rd best road record in all of baseball (32-26). Clear advantage for the Mets. Btw, didn't the Mets JUST struggle to take a series at Shea...from the Padres? Hand them the division! :whistle Aaron Heilwoman is the best closer ever, btw.

August 8, 200818 yr I think it goes Phil's, Marlins then Mets. The Mets without Wagner seem to be in disarray

August 8, 200818 yr 1. Phils 2. Marlins 3. Mets It won't matter though, we are going to win the division.
August 8, 200818 yr The article was about who had the SCHEDULE advantage... not the actual advantage. Do some of you even read the articles before flipping out?

August 8, 200818 yr Author The article was about who had the SCHEDULE advantage... not the actual advantage. Do some of you even read the articles before flipping out? it also said how supposedly because of our low attendance that we don't have home field advantage....lol but it clearly is against us
