Tough choices are coming BUT one.....

I think the Marlins should let Pudge go to the Cubs. This way the Cubs can win it all next year. The Marlins need Pudge to win. This guy is the heart of the team. I hope management knows this.

That post made no sense at all. First you want Pudge to go with the Cubs, and 4 seconds later, you want him to stay here. Go away, Cubs fan.

Troll.

I don't care if Castro is an all-star soon, Pudge is an all-star NOW and is money!

Technically, Pudge hasn't been an All-Star since 2001. He's currently not an All-Star. And alot of you should look back at your pre-season predictions. Pudge did NOT live up to his expectations, respectively. If letting him go means keeping AJ, Luis, ect., I'm all for it.

Pudge did NOT live up to his expectations

You are kidding right? He exceeded expectations. Best signing and FA of the 2003 baseball season.

He is ONE of the reasons why the Marlins got to lift that WS trophy.

Do you think our pitching could have been the same without Pudge?

Do you think our pitching could have been the same without Pudge? My point exactly! Pudge was the invisible hand behind the pitchers performances.

Go back to your hole under a rock cubs fan...

Why do fans from other teams like to muck up the Marlins boards? My only answer is they are jealous of our weather and our team can WIN two world series in eleven years.

UberUbi I respect your opinion but don't call me stupid or my opinion. First, Both Pudge and Lowell have capable replacement on the team RIGHT NOW. Castro is ready in my opinion, and if Pudge resign and Castro is traded you'll see it from a far. Cabrera do I need to say more. The only thing IMO that is holding the team back is the PR hit it'll take if they trade Lowell or don't resign Pudge. Pitching wins championship ie"BECKETT" AJ if health is equally if not better than Josh. This pitching staff IS what is going to take this team to next level (A Braves run)

Edcanes...did we win the World Series this year? was Burnett involved?

thats all that matters pudge and lowell are definitely more important even though i dont think a decision will come to decide whether we keep pudge or burnett

If letting him go means keeping AJ, Luis, ect., I'm all for it.

If it means keeping Lowell and Castillo then certainly, but that's the only reason for him to go

you would be stupid to say that pudge didnt have a good year and that this team did not depend on him

pudge is fans also

AJ is expendable, but we can keep him and pudge and lowell if we let lee and castillo go. two big name players will be gone, and lee/castillo seem to be the weakest links unfortunately, we can't keep them all.

DTrizzle do you think the Marlins will win again next year? NO IMO I think they snunk up on alot team early on, true we won the WS BUT Lowell and Pudge had career years. If I recall pitching won us that Championship correct? pretty much Beckett's arm. I'm not devalueing Pudge or Lowell by any means but how we forget in such a short time what AJ Burnett is as a pitcher. AJ is a stud people, who don't come around very often. You built winning teams with pitching ie Oakland, Atlanta and LA. Hitters come and go, pitcher like Burnett are NOT out there growing on trees. Kerry Wood made it back from TJ and is back to the stud he was before. AJ will come back, you can't let him walk. It would be the BIGGEST mistake this organization would have ever made. Again... Yes I would let Pudge or Lowell walk if it meant not keeping AJ!

you dont sign AJ long term....

but you resign him.

its a no brainer folks.

pudge is more important to this team than lowell as well.

that is where my money is as far as who stays and who goes...

well and a couple more.... ;)

AJ is NOT expendable. Your ACE is not expendable. I don't care if you have one ace, two (which we have now), three or more (which we will have as soon as Brad Penny grows up for good). You cannot trade AJ because playing last year or not, you just simply cannot argue he is the most talented of the Studly Six. His fastball reaches 97-98 in the 8th and 9th innings. His knuckle curve is wicked. He uses his change effectively and while it doesn't move more than Beckett's, they are about equal. And you know what the kicker is? He has the wicked SLIDER! He has 4 disgusting pitches. You are going to make that expendable?

hey mr. know itall smarty pants, pitching didnt win us the WS. remember throughout the whole playoffs we hardly got quality starts? it was small ball and team work and not giving up that won it. not just pitching. stop acting like if u know everything cuz u dont.

Sign AJ for One year and then when you see he is healthy sign him Long Term. Its that simple, you need to see if you ace is healthy before you give him a 3+ year contract.

pitching got us to the playoffs...... and just getting enough runs...

our pitching took 2 weeks off in the postseason but they came back pretty strong in the WS

pitching won us the WS, and it would be very very stupid to let AJ Burnett go

and oh yea, shut up pubes

Ed, Pudge did not have a career year.

Exactly.

In my book we've gotta keep Pudge and AJ over all. I'd HATE to see Lowell walk, but Cabs steps right in there, so it's not the end of the world. I honestly think losing Pudge is a step back for this orginization with the fans. Sure, us diehards will move on, but the diehards aren't enough to keep this thing viable and I honestly think if we signed everyone BUT Pudge, the casual fans (the $$) would still see it as a major disappointment.

The only way keeping AJ makes any sense is if he can be signed long term. ANd that's a huge gamble for a small market budget. Many pitchers come back stronger after the surgery, but you tend not to hear about the ones that don't. Some of them just slip away into obscurity. They don't make very good stories, so you don't hear about them.

Paying AJ 2.5 mil for a recovery year, and then letting him go as a free agent the following season doesn't make sense.

Most of the decisions about big money contracts are probably going to hinge on the stadium deal. From where I sit, they're stillabout $200 mil short, and that's not chump change. If this stadium deal drive falls short, like the previous ones have, their won't be any future revenue projected to cover these investments. They simply won't happen.

I hope Loria and co have a plan, and aren't just hoping for a miracle. They've been playing it pretty close to the vest so far, but have put their cards on the table now. But I haven't even heard a suggestion of where that 200 mil was coming from.
