Ramirez continues to duck tough questions

Hanley will be fine at ss eventually Arod sucked at short his first few years then he became a gold glover. I dont give a dman if hanley answers some stupid reporters qustion. He knows he screwed up and so does everyone else. Whats he supposed to tell the guy ill try harder next time he f'ed up and everyone knows it. For the most part i like the guys who dont talk to the media and let their game do the talkin.

Meh, it was mainly Gregg's fault anyway. Besides, what good is gonna come out of a player standing there and saying "I f***ed up"? It's not gonna change the outcome of the game.

.... maybe cause Kevin Gregg is used to talking to the media after he f***s up?!?

He sure has gotten a lot of practice.

this.

Gregg probably has lines hes memorized for when hes screwed up. It must be hard for hm to keep track of how many times he used each one by now. Hes gonna have to come up wiht new ones.

He has had 3 years to show some kind of improvement, if anything there is evidence he is getting worse. How much longer do you give him. The Marlins can not win with Hanley at short.

yea hanley didn't DP but greegg sould have gotten out of it...instead he gives up a hit................i'm fed up with greeg and the superwoman bs. i hope hes outta here next year if not this year.

Since I am still upset, and I should be old enough not to wake up at 330 am and start thinking about the loss so as not to be able to fall asleep, closers screw up and give you pain, but a quality shortstop should be able to turn a routine DP when it matters most. The issue with me is that this has happened a number of times this year and at least 3 or 4 DP's that would have won games ended up resulting in losses. When I saw the ground ball, I was not excited because I was holding my breath for exactly what happened. Yea, it would have been nice if Gregg could have made it easy and if the damn ump could see a strike down the middle, but we never had lights out closers-Ugueth, Jones, Borowski, Benitez-they all could age you each time out.

It is tough to lose close games, it is tougher to lose on plays that should just not happen, except rarely, especially when we should be right at the top of the standings because of it.

And oh yea, on topic, I really do not care if Hanley didnt want to talk. What could he say? I don't need an apology and I sure as heck don't hate him for it. I didnt want to listen to anything about it anyway.

I'm waiting for Hanley to go back to his old glove. :mis2

the teal strip has been bad luck

His old glove wasn't much better, though.

You would think that but a number of times now he's had trouble getting the ball out of his new glove and this was about as easy a double play as you could ask for. He had already crossed the bag and was on the first base side of the base, but he just couldn't get a grip.

It will be interesting as a minor little side note to see if he stays with it or goes back to what he was using before.

He was consistently having trouble getting the ball out of his glove. Some even thought the glove may be too big. I was hoping this glove would change that. It hasn't.

seriously, people are crazy going off sayin Hanley is not our future SS, i mean he is a great all around player. I do not understand why people care if he talks to the media or not, Tom Brady doesn't and people don't care, Albert Pujols, hell even Derek Jeter avoids the media once in a while. Hanley will be fine, he is still more mature than Rollins or Reyes. He is on about the same pace A-Rod was when he began his career. I'm not sayin Hanley will hit that many home runs, because he will be focusing more on SB's. At least he should, Hanley does need to work on his fielding, from experience I know all it takes is going a couple of games in a row without making an error and the confidence that comes along will propel him to bettering himself in the field

That hit you are refering to was a mind fart by Uggla. There was no reason to leave his defensive position to cover 2B. The out that was needed was at the plate, not running to second. And the ball was hit to the area he just vacated. So actually Gregg did what he needed to do. Uggla blew it.

Ahhh, the things sports reporters will write when a guy refuses to talk to them.

It's their job to get players to talk to them, and each player is obligated to talk to the media in accordance with their contract.

If someone at your workplace was making your job a pain in the butt, wouldn't you be upset?

Hanley is making millions of dollars to play baseball for a living, the least he can do is answer a few questions, even if he doesn't necessarily want to.

By dodging reporters after a key loss, he comes off as stubborn and a bit of a crybaby. I mean, of course he's not going to be happy,

but real men admit their mistakes and confront them. I can understand Hanley being competitive, but there is a fine line between being competitive and being a poor sport.

The writer seems to be more of a crybaby than Hanley.

Agreed.

I agree completely that this is a case of a writer b*tching because he couldnt get his interview. However, that does not mean that there is not a bigger maturity issue when it comes to Hanley's development. We all remember the slump he fell into after he signed his big contract. He has bounced back, especially at the plate, but I think it is fair to say that a few, if not most of Hanley's defensive lapses comes from a lack of concentration. Great players who don't have plus range make up for it with hustle and by constantly being in the zone. Hanley's body language alone reveals the fact that he is not always 'in the game' on defense. I do believe there is a maturity issue with Ramirez, and it is disconcerting considering the commitment our franchise has shown to this player. I sincerely hope his defense improves a lot next year, and if it does not, I really don't think SS is the position for him.

Oh yay...irrelevant stories!

Who cares if Gregg is willing to talk, while Hanley isn't? Certain people are different.

Who cares? They lost.

They lost, whether they talk or don't.

The players don't get paid to talk to reporters; they get paid to perform on the field. Hanley does that pretty well...a lot better than Gregg (who, for what it's worth...is getting way too much blame for last night).

Jeter was terrible in his first couple of years, and now hes a GG. We just need to have patience

Hanley will not be a shortstop, for what it's worth.

If that's what you're praying for...good luck. In the long-term future, the SS could be a kid by the last name of Torres.

There's no way Hanley goes his whole career playing SS.

A) He's already pretty big for the position.

B) He's only 24, meaning he's going to get bigger, as he continues to develop towards his prime years.

I don't think he's all that terrible at the position (a lot of his errors are just really stupid / correctable)...but the only reason he's not the CF'er next year is b/c the best prospect we got in that Miguel Cabrera trade just so happens to be a CF'er...and a good defensive CF'er, at that (Maybin).

After playing the goat in a close game with playoff implications, would you want to answer stupid questions from a reporter? Yeah, he has a job but he's also a human being.

It doesn't matter if you want to answer stupid questions or not. You are expected to do it, no matter what the circumstances.

...and yet, he doesn't HAVE TO. It's his right, just like everyone else has that right.

He doesn't need to talk...he needs to play. Big 2 run single tonight, with 2 outs. That's what I care about.

Barry Bonds has been portrayed as an ass his whole career. I'd take Barry Bonds, the player, on my team anyday of the week, and twice on Sundays.
