Through our 1st 6 games, obviously the pen is a problem. But bullpen pitchers can be added later on.

 

What's not so easy to do is to have someone step up and pitch like an ace. The Marlins have 2 aces. How many teams are fortunate enough to say that? Only a handful, if that.

I disagree. I mean I don't feel the bullpen can be added later. We cannot survive with every single one of our relievers giving up a run a piece in each of their outings until the trade deadline. We really need the bullpen to improve immediately or make a drastic move for a reliable reliever (not necessary in most cases, but if the pen continues to struggle into Late May Mid June, we may have to)/

Yeah its deffinately a luxury to have what we got going. Knowing that if Nolasco isn't at his best u got JJ to be the stopgap, which is exactly what aces do.

 

I am very happy that JJ was able to match up with Johan pound for pound and know that there will be alot more of that this season and in the future years.

The bullpen might not be good, but it's not horrendus either. There are some guys who can get by. And then we can upgrade later on. There aren't many teams in the big leagues without a bullpen problem. Even the Mets are having middle relief problems, despite all the money spent on the 2 big guys.

Thinking like that would have kept Tank in our pen last year.

 

IOW I don't really care what someone did in previous years. I care about what they are doing right now. For proof that my thinking is at least consistent, go back and look at my reasoning of why I didn't want Dallas on this team. (BTW He just signed a minor league contract with the Giants. rah rah The dream is alive.)

I'm saying there is no legitimate reason to disregard someone else's thought for using the same set of standards you are using to back up your thought.

 

6 games in, using 4 starters, is no time to be labeling any player. And staff ace is one of the worst terms in baseball. It's a nice little ego boost for the Opening Day starter, but other than that, it is a crap term.

I would agree. Ricky was generally lights out during Spring Training, so I don't believe these two games are an indicator of what we can expect from him. Last year, he won his first start, lost his next two, got a ND his fourth and then lost his fith. Ricky then went on to only lose 5 of his 27 starts. He'll get things straightened out then be his usual dominating self.

The only thing that is certain is that it is WAY too early to be making predictions or statements based on 6 games. Half of our games were against the worst team in the league. Lets wait until May to determine who is playing well and who is not.
