I mean, unless he starts getting the GB rates of Halladay and improves his control to Halladay's level he doesn't have much chance of being an ace. RVH has considerable strike out potential over Volstad, and if he can control his control, he is a front line starter. It's just unlikely. Most likely he's a middle of the rotation starter. And, unlike Volstad, he has considerable downside. Volstad is severely overrated by most people. I can't believe people still think he has ace in him.

You JUST said yourself if Volstad can improve his control to Halladay's level he can absolutely be an ace. Their stuff is almost identical, and he's just 22-years-old (more than a year younger than RVH)! You don't need to be a power pitcher K guy to be an ace, and the most consistent ace's (both in performance and health) usually don't fit that mold. So, you tell me, you think RVH's upside is higher than a Roy Halladay-type? If so, tell me why exactly? Volstad becoming that type of pitcher isn't exactly a strech all things considered. Most didn't even consider RVH a starting pitcher (Erick more than anyone) before this season, and I was one of VERY few that defended him as a rotation guy. So don't go bashing me as a RVH hater, when I was one of virtually none that defended him. I see a lot of talent in him, big strong kid with very good stuff. I just see a ton more in Volstad. We're very lucky to even be having this conversation.

July 29, 200917 yr Author I'm sticking to my guns. While it's true that I'm basing my opinion on what I've seen in the last week, I like where Rick is headed more.

That's my V! And of course, Volstud. =] Too funny! Clearly I choose Volstad although I must admit that Vandenhurk did impress me in his last start against the Dodgers. I was very skeptical that he would have success in his second start but I'm thrilled he did!
