August 11, 200916 yr Link (Bridgeport Bluefish site) He will be going to AAA New Orleans. I have a friend who works for the Bluefish who says he was doing extremely well down there but still, it's the Atlantic League (Independent), so I think a few starts in AAA and we will see if he is the real deal (again). He could be a solid 5th starter in the playoff run.
August 11, 200916 yr interesting...I would guess he'd be more a pen arm no? Although he is starting in the minors this year, he hasn't started in the bigs since 2000
August 11, 200916 yr definitely not going to be starting. in his career yan has only started 23 games and 20 of them were in 2000. pretty bad career ERA so i see him just an organizational depth and nothing more
August 11, 200916 yr They should have this guy on the Dan LeBatard show. I see [hear?] potential radio gold.
August 11, 200916 yr I would think its more likely he'll be used in the Zephyrs' rotation not unlike Willie Glen came from the Northern League Railcats last season to pitch every five days for the Mudcats in Zebulon. It may have to do with impending prospect movement and having to field a team in New Orleans for the last month of their season. Or maybe he really has something left in the tank but it's really a long shot.

August 12, 200916 yr LOL the Rays former closer and guy we coveted years ago? I guess we get our man sooner or later even if the guy was in the dumpster...haha. Who knows maybe he has something left? Not going to be a starter, never has been. Always a RP, PLEASE!
August 12, 200916 yr Yan was 10-4 with a 3.43 ERA in 21 appearances (18 starts) for the Bluefish. Through Monday, he led the Atlantic League in complete games (six) and was second in wins, third in innings pitched (133 2/3) and fifth in ERA and strikeouts (78). see link above

August 12, 200916 yr Is Scott Williamson still with the Marlins organization? Looking at his stats, he only pitched a game...and it didn't go well.
August 12, 200916 yr from the Sun Sentinel: "In other news, the Marlins signed former major league Esteban Yan and assigned him to Triple-A New Orleans. No word yet on whether Yan will work in the Zephyrs depleted rotation or head straight to the pen. Yan has not pitched in the majors since 2006, when he split the season between the Angels and Reds." http://blogs.sun-sentinel.com/sports_baseball_marlins/2009/08/florida-marlins-a-new-look-offensively-esteban-yan-in-the-fold.html I'm guessing this is why they signed him.

August 15, 200916 yr The Sun-Sentinel today noted that Yan failed his physical. Yes he did, The Marlins went ahead and signed former Padre Brian Lawrence to fill out the AAA rotation
