September 25, 200916 yr Can't believe I almost forgot the great Franklin Gracesqui. Nice! I don't know why but I always remember Pat Rapp. We always called him Fat Rapp when he sucked, although he pitched that beautiful 1-hitter against the Rockies in 1995. My list is composed of the most amazing "Due Up" I had ever seen, and it happened live and in person on the jumbotron at Joe Robbie Stadium: Due up: 8. Jesus Tavarez 9. Randy Veres 1. Quilvio Veras
September 25, 200916 yr Scott Pose......1st ever major league batter for the franchise Bret Barberie.......1st major league hit for the franchise

September 25, 200916 yr BTW, this made me curious and I found the most obscure lineup from any single day that I could: 9/24/97 (wow, an exact 11 years before this tread was made) 1) John Cangelosi - CF 2) Alex Arias - SS 3) Kurt Abbott - 2B 4) Jeff Conine - 1B 5) Russ Morman - RF 6) John Wehner - LF 7) Bob Natal - C 8) Josh Booty - 3B Though, at least Leiter was pitching, because not a single one of those guys (remember, Niner had a sh*tty year) were starters for us. Can you imaging getting excited to go to a game before the playoffs and seeing that team on the field? Though you'd probably have gotten over it because that lineup somehow managed to score 7 runs in the first inning.

Here's the boxscore from that game: http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/MON/MON199709240.shtml By the way, just for the hell of it, does any know what day the Marlins clinched the wildcard in 1997? By the look of that lineup, it seems like it would have been the day/night before!
September 25, 200916 yr Just answered my own question - they did clinch the night before, September 23rd, 1997. On this date, they were six games in front of the LA Dodgers and clinched their first ever post season berth. Check out this pretty neat site: http://www.baseballrace.com/races/MLB-1997-NL-Wildcard.asp

I thought he had departed long before then. I used to watch Kurt Abbot crank 425 foot fall balls in ST at Baseball City all the time when I was younger.
September 25, 200916 yr Ya know, you guys could just spend the $$$ and get a Media Guide. A list of all past Marlins are in there by their numbers. And for alot less you can buy Media Guides from years past at the Community Corner. If you have never had one you may be surprised at all the info contained in them.
