Any chance Skipworth gets promoted to Jupiter this season?

Sure, but he needs to stop striking out at 30% rates too.

Jupiter is a drastic pitcher's park (as opposed to Greensboro being a drastic hitter's park) so I don't think pushing him out of A+ very quickly is wise when it's the first success you are getting out of the guy. I'd say let him mash until the end of July and build on this success and confidence. If he's playing great, push him up for a month in Jupiter so he can get an idea of where he needs to be for next year.

There is no rush to get him to the bigs. This was always a longterm draft and develop project with a high school catcher. It's going to take 5+ years.

Absolutely no reason to put him in Jupiter this season. The only thing he's doing good right now is hitting for power. And that's coming in while playing half his games in a park that has the highest HR park factor in all of full season minor league baseball (Obviously parks in the PCL and CAL are better hitting parks, but their also massive hitter leagues)

Meanwhile, he still strikes out WAY WAY too much, barely walks, and batting average is supported by a .390 BABIP.

Calling him up to Jupiter, which is a MASSIVE pitchers park, would take away the positive he's been able to do this season and completely wreck him. Like Lou said, let him light it up, let him get that confidence back into him, and get him to work on other things in Greensboro. Worry about Jupiter next year.

Maybe he can turn into a Miguel Olivo-like guy of horrible OBP, bunch of K's, but great power that makes him useful. Yeah, the sound of that at first sucks. But also consider what him being a lefty means. If he can put up a .750-.800 OPS against righties, that's solid solid. He's essentially John Baker sans-OBP plus-SLG. At that point all we'd need to do is find a right handed catcher that mashes lefties: This is EXTREMELY easy considering vast vast majority of catchers are right handed hitters.

(EDIT: Better comp, for Skipworth v.s. RHP, might be Kelly Shopvach's career line. ~.240/.325/.450. But that's asking for a lot of power and BABIP ability)

Right now though it's you can't even say he'll make a major league roster down the road considering his BB and K problems. Yeah, the power showing is awesome, him putting up results is awesome, but all it is is power in a small sample size in a hitters park. It's "good news" but it's not time to be overtly optimistic and being able to pencil him as catcher of the future.
