June 1, 201016 yr As we all know, he who shall not be named at this time is expected to come up any time between this Friday and early July at the latest (barring injury). So, this brings up a few question... A) Who do you feel is a better option for the team going forward with the rest of THIS season? Cam or CC? B) Who do you feel is a better option as a leadoff hitter on this team long term (not just as an outfielder)? Cam or CC? C) What do you feel would be the best course of action going forward once the man who shall not be named is called up? (Platoon in LF, Send down CC, or Send down Cam)? Try not to bash me for making this thread. We've all been thinking this for quite some time, and the next week or so is probably going to be a battle for a spot on the major league roster the rest of this season.
June 1, 201016 yr Perhaps just as you wrote this... Stanton goes yard. To answer your question... I don't know. I would lean towards sending down Maybin right now, but in all honesty it's a very tough call. I like MarlinsLou's suggestion that we bring up Stanton as we start playing some interleague. Have all three of them up. Start Stanton in all those games and platoon Maybin and Coghlin in the others. We can have all four play and one DH when we play in an AL park.
June 1, 201016 yr Team Cogz.... He has already proven his ceiling is Higher than Maybin's... Just needs to go back to last years form... Another option is having the two of them go in the octagon and wrastle for it... Winner gets leadoff spot, Loser goes to AAA and then wrastles Boni for top bunk...
June 1, 201016 yr It's hard to pick. The main thing is that you can't have both Cam and Coghlan on the roster not getting legit playing time while Stanton is up here so Platoon is pretty much not an option. As of now I'd probably send down Maybin since Coghlan is starting to heat up and he is our certified lead off hitter. But if they want to save Maybin a minor league option and keep him up to let Chris get ab's in AAA and maybe even some games at 2nd or 3rd for a possible trade deadline move involving Uggla. It's pretty tough but I feel that either way our team won't suffer drastically and Coghlan has the slight advantage of staying up.
June 2, 201016 yr I say call up Stanton during interleague and see what happens performance wise with all 3.
June 2, 201016 yr Even including tonight (so far) Maybin is 5 for his last 29 (.172). Sure, he's been K'ing a bit less but I have no idea why people (Rich and Tommy, Frisaro, etc) have been saying he's been "swinging the bat well". Maybe they're getting him confused with Coghlan who is 11 for his last 31 (.355) and also should get a bit more leeway than a struggling prospect considering he's the defending ROY. Maybin goes.
June 2, 201016 yr Coghlan isn't quite back to his old self, but its pretty obvious that he is swinging better than he has all season. Although a couple days ago I would have said undoubtedly he needed to go down, the way he is starting to swing (even getting hard outs) is very encouraging. I'd still like to see the walks back, but I think a couple days ago Tommy or some other analyst I was listening to said that walks aren't the way you get out of a slump- which is probably true. Maybin is a little tougher to judge. His statline looks better than it did a couple weeks ago, but Maybin has throughout his career shown signs of improvement only to fall back, and his brief spurts of production aren't really ever good enough to be considered "streaky". I'm just not sure that the team is going to demote him yet again, as it may simply be time for him to sink or swim at the major league level despite the fact that he was rushed and probably didn't have the minor league development schedule he should have.
June 2, 201016 yr I think if we sent Cogs down we could avoid super 2 with him. However Cogs seems to be hitting now, I think tonight was his 3rd 3 hit game (I think that's what Tommy said). Maybin, imo should be the one to go down. Yeah, I was wrong not his 3rd straight 3 hit game.
June 2, 201016 yr This was a tough question like two weeks. To me, at this point... Cogs is the reigning Rookie of the Year with a proven track record of hitting at the big league level. Maybin has merely shown glimpses of his talent. As much as I really like Cam, you cant put him over Cogs anymore.

Yeah, I think there is a good chance now no matter what the Marlins do this year, playoffs or not, Uggla may be gone after this season. Coghlan is a natural 2B, right? Not a power bat like Uggla, but a cheaper option and maybe a better 2b in terms of defense. That way team can keep Ross and Maybin in outfield, along with adding Stanton to it. And I said Uggla may be gone after this season, cause if this team can stay in the race, you can't trade away Uggla.
June 2, 201016 yr It is a tough call for all the wrong reasons. I'd keep Coghlan up, he went 3-5 tonight with all 3 being extra base hits and not "dinky singles" as I've seen them referred to before. In his two outs, I believe he also worked the count to 3-2 which is what we want to see. Of course, we thought Coghlan was out of it before. On May 20th, his average was up to .231 after the 2 game series in St. Louis - He had hit in 11 of his last 12 games at this point. He then went 0-14 in Chicago bringing his average back down to .210 and 3 strikeouts in that 13-0 blowout game with an 0-6 day. Since that series, he has hit in 7 of his last 8 games (the one game he didn't hit was Halladay's perfect game) and I believe Conine said he is 6 for his last 8 (6-10 in the Brewers series). It's all about consistency and we all fear that Coghlan could start another 0-14 series streak in New York this weekend or whatever. It's tough to call, but he did prove himself last year and Maybin hasn't done that in the majors just yet. I stick with Coghlan for now when Stanton comes up.
June 2, 201016 yr If CC goes down to AAA, we'll have little lefty option. That's not good. So, I'll pick CC-Ross-Stanton for OF shapes.
June 2, 201016 yr It's a shame but Maybin might be the odd man out. One other option no one has talked about is sending down Carrol and have a rotation of Coghlan, Maybin and Stanton(even though is very unlikely),

One other option no one has talked about is sending down Carrol and have a rotation of Coghlan, Maybin and Stanton(even though is very unlikely), They have to send down BC, I can't imagine you would send down Maybin, and have Cody the everyday CF with no real back up on the bench. But who knows. How many options does BC have left?

Yes this decision is a month away. They are all going to play during interleague and that could force a decision. One possibility I would love, assuming everyone hits, is to start a 4 man rotation. Add gaby to the mix, and give coghlan 1-2 games a week at 3B. Like, assuming a 28 game month Maybin 21 CF gaby 21 1B Coghlan 14 LF, 7 3B Stanton 14 LF, 7 RF And flip Cody and cantu appropriately Plenty of at bats, shield guys on rhp/lhp splits, and something useful will always be on the bench unlike Lamb or Petersen. I know they'll never do it because they are insane and wont put coghlan in the infield, but thats what they should do. If someone wants to take off, they can have the position. But this team can handle playing all of them in the bigs if they want.

As much as I really like Cam, you cant put him over Cogs anymore. i agree and i definitely think that coghlan will put it back together faster, maybin has yet to even put it together for more than a month. maybin really reminds me of dexter fowler and they have all the talent but for some reason they just cant stay consistent.
June 2, 201016 yr Coghlan is going through the phenomenon known as the sophomore slump. Maybin, however, is just not that good. Coghlan is better long term but should be benched. Maybin should stay for now, and start seeing as we dont have many other options. Coghlan has had recent success in about a weeks frame... so I mean keep playing him but if he doesnt start batting well he needs to be benched.
June 2, 201016 yr I think people aren't quite getting what Maybin and Coghlan's ceilings are. I think maybin's ceiling is higher, but CC is safer. Right now, I guess CC stays up. I prefer keeping Maybin up for defense/utility's sake, but it's gotta be based on merit. I hate CC's approach right now, though. It's not an easy choice.

Brett Carroll can do that; Maybin needs to be playing everyday somewhere. Majors, minors, he needs AB's, and he needs to develop. He's an important part of this organization's future.

Coghlan is a left handed bat in a lineup that has just one ... him. Maybin never panned out. Oh, Stanton just hit two more dongs tonight.

Well, I didn't mean to keep him as a utility player. I meant keep him as an everyday center fielder. I prefer his overall package to Coghlan's (that's what she said), and I think all other things being equal, the fact that he's a superior defensive player at a premium position makes him preferable. Of course, all other things are very rarely equal.

"never" He still has less PAs in his career at the major league level than Bonifacio got by himself last season. It's way too early to write him off. But then, I forgot, your an idiot. What am I doing replying?

I definitely think that we should keep a player in the lineup just because they are left-handed. After all, the fact that they are left handed means that they will get more hits than any player who was occupying that spot who was right handed.
